BILL OGLE INFANT TAKEN IN DEATH

Graveside services for Tammy   Michele   Ogle, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill [[William Earl] Ogle [Nancy Sue Cox], of Emerson, were held January 12 at the Blockton Cemetery. Tammy was born January 10 and died eight hours later.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Chris and William; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ogle of Bedford and Wayne Cox of Mason township; great-grandparents, Mrs. Opal Drennen of Omaha and Guy Ogle of Blockton.

Last Rites Held Jan. 18 for Pauline Little  

Funeral   services for Mrs. Earl   (Pauline) Little   of 710   So.   2nd St., St. Charles, Ill., formerly of Bedford, were held January   18   at   Yurs   Funeral Home in St. Charles, Ill. with Rev. Wayne Barton officiating. Mrs. Little died January 16 at her   home.    Interment was   at Mt.   Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill.           

Pauline   Walker   Little was born in Bedford and graduated from Bedford High School. 

She was married to [Rolland] Earl Little, also of Bedford. Her husband preceded her in death September 3, 1960.

She   was   a member of St. Charles   Congregational Church.   Prior to going to St. Charles from Elmhurst, Ill., she was   active   in the Red Cross, Community   Theatre and WomenÕs Club and resided in the Carl   Sandburg home   in Elmhurst.   She   studied   music at Northwestern University.                  

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Lou Alice) Carter of St. Charles, and Mrs. Dennis (Maudie) McCarthy of Hinsdale, Ill. and 10 grandchildren.

Tilden C. Wagaman Rites Held Jan. 9

Funeral services for Tilden C. [hristopher] Wagaman, 96, of New Market, were held January 9, at Lavelle Funeral Home in Clarinda conducted by Carl Cummings. Mr. Wagaman died January 6, 1973 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Interment was at Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda.

Tilden   C. [hristopher] Wagaman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Wagaman [Susan Ketzel], was born October   13, 1876    at    Maryland, Pennsylvania.     He    moved    with    his parents   to the Hepburn area in   1882 and was married to Dora [Blanch] Farrens    February   18, 1903. They farmed in the Clarinda area until 1936 when they moved   to New Market.   Mrs. Wagaman died in 1937, and he continued to make his home in New Market.

He worked at the hog yards, and served as marshal in New Market.  He was a regular attender   at   the   Bedford sales every Saturday.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Everene Rander of San Gabriel, California, two sons, Floyd and Jack, both of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Edd, of Clarinda and three grandchildren.

Eldred W. Flint Dies in Fla.

Funeral services for Eldred W.  [endell] Flint of Fort Meyers, Fla., formerly of Blockton, were held January 8 at Riverside Baptist Church   with   the Rev.   E.   S. Anderson officiating. Mr. Flint died January 2, 1973 at Division Hospital at Lake City, Florida   after a brief illness. Interment was at the Fort Meyers Cemetery.

Mr.   Flint, a plumbing contractor, has   been   a   resident of Fort Meyers for the past 25 years.

Survivors include one sister, Lorena   Flint Tombs, Blythe, Calif.; one brother, Roland G. [areth]

 Flint, Los Angeles, Calif.; nephew, Kenneth    Poole    of Yakima, Wash.; two    step- daughters, Juanity [Juanita] McCranney, Live Oak, Fla. and Mrs. Teresa Jenning   of   Fort   Meyers; six grandchildren; one great grandchild.

John Bruce Allen Dies in Arkansas     

Funeral services for John Bruce Allen, 20, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, were held at the church in Fairfield Bay January 4 conducted by the pastor, Rev. Harold Scott, assisted by Dr. Herbert Kann. He died January 2, 1973 at Baptist Medical Center, in Little Rock, Arkansas, after almost a year's illness. Interment was at Eglantine Cemetery, near-by.                

John Bruce, son of Ray and Mary   Lou   Jared   Allen, was born June 24, 1952 at   Fairbury, Nebraska.      

When he was a year old his parents moved to Des Moines, Iowa, which was his home for 17 years.            

He graduated from Hoover High School in Des Moines, Ia. in 1970 and attended Iowa State University, Ames, and University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. He had completed the first half of his sophomore year when stricken.

He was a member of Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church, Des Moines, Iowa, later transferring his membership to United Methodist Church at Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, and was a charter member.          

Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Edward, of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandmothers, Minnie Journey of Bedford and Erma Allen of Eldora, Iowa; and a host of friends and relatives.

John Groff, 72 Final Rites Held At Prairie Rose

John [Franklin] Groff, 72, formerly of the Oak Hill vicinity, died very suddenly Jan. 11 at their home at Westgate in Corning. Altho not in good health he and Mrs. Groff had been going to the farm quite often to chore and to harvest.

Among those surviving are his wife, Anna [Richie], and their sons, Keith [Edward], of Corning and Wendell [Dean] and family of rural Missouri.

Funeral services were Sunday at the Roland funeral home and burial at Prairie Rose south of Corning in the Fairview vicinity.

Mrs. Frances Bonar Rites Are Held Wed. in Hopkins

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances [Trueblood] Bonar, 84, of Hopkins, Mo., were held Wednesday at the Swanson mortuary in Hopkins. Mrs. Bonar died January 28, 1973 at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda. Interment was at the Hopkins Cemetery.

Mrs. Bonar's survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Paul Hill [Marcella], Omaha, Nebr. and two sons, Robert [Lee] Bonar of Bedford and Paul Bonar of Omaha, Nebr.

January 26 Final Rites Held in Siam For Clem Fine, 82

Funeral   services for Clem Fine, 82, lifelong   resident of the Siam, Iowa area, were held January 26 at the Siam Christian Church with Carl Cummings and Rev.   Loren   Daly   officiating. Mr. Fine died January 22, 1973, at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, following   a    10-day stay. Interment     was     at    Shearer Cemetery, Page County, Iowa.

Clem Fine, son of E. [phraim] J. [asper] and Josephine Booze Fine, was born July 30, 1890, on a farm, one-fourth mile from his residence Page County Iowa. On September 29, 1917, he was united in marriage to Della McMullin at St. Joseph, Missouri. To this union two sons and three daughters were born: Harold and Roy of Braddyville, Mrs. Eldon (Irene) Vardaman of Clarinda, Mrs. Lester  (Doris) Carter of Maitland, Missouri, and Naomi who died at the age of three.

Clem spent his entire life within one fourth of a mile from his birthplace. He started a blacksmith shop in his younger boyhood days. A few years after his marriage, he started into machinery business and has spent the last 55 years in the Allis Chalmers Farm Equipment line. He was one of the older established dealers of the line, if not the oldest in the area. He was always active in his business and never retired.

In June 1973, Clem would have been a 50-year member of Plumb Lodge 285 of Siam; and he was a long time member of the Siam Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his    wife    Della; a daughter, Naomi Lee, his parents, an infant sister, two brothers, Elmer and Clyde.

He is survived by his two sons, Harold and Roy; two daughters-in-law, Helen and Sarah; two sons-in-law, Eldon I Vardaman and Lester Carter; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Last Rites Are Held January 26 For Malvern Alexander   

Funeral Services for Malvern Francis Alexander, 66, of Gravity, held January 26 at the Gravity United Methodist Church, were conducted by Pastor Perry Cozadd. Mr. Alexander died January 23 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Malvern Francis Alexander, son of Charles and Jenny [Morris] Alexander, was born on October 12, 1906 on a farm near Clarinda, Iowa.     

In 1907, the Alexanders moved to the farm near Gravity, which Malvern has called home for his entire life with the exception of two years spent in Chicago. He attended the rural school near his home and the Gravity High School. His education was cut short because of the death of his father.

He was married to Catherine Wenzell and to this union two sons, Charles and Fred, were born. The mother was deceased in 1934.

On December 6, 1935, he was united in marriage to Avis Morey. To this union were born five children, Roger, Bill, Lyle, Carol and Lois.

He   was   preceded   in   death by his parents and one sister, Eva.

Because he was reared on a farm, Malvern was considered a farmer but he was a mechanic at heart and set up a small shop on the farm where he could practice his trade and be a teacher to his boys at the same time.

In 1946, he was stricken with polio and was hospitalized four months. During his recuperation he learned patience and perseverance, an outstanding quality he maintained through the years.

In 1956, he purchased the repair shop in Gravity, which he owned and operated until he became ill last July. He has since spent much of his time in and out of hospitals. He was able to spend Christmas, 1972, at home with his entire family. The loving care given him by his family is a living memorial of his goodness to them.

He is survived by his loving wife, Avis; five sons, Charles of Long Beach, Calif., Fred of Old Bridge, New Jersey, Roger of Moberly, Mo., Bill of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lyle of Red Oak, la., two daughters, Carol, of Ames, Ia. and Lois Pratt of Shenandoah, Ia., one brother, Walter, of Bedford; four daughters-in-law; one son-in-law: 20 grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He was a pal of his grandchildren whom he dearly loved. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Alexander was farmer, mechanic

GRAVITY-Funeral services were here Friday for Malvern F. [rancis] Alexander who died Jan 23 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, with burial in the Washington Cemetery at Gravity.

While a farmer near Gravity since 1907, he had interest of mechanics at heart and established a small shop at his home. He was born Oct 12, 1906, at a rural Clarinda farm home, son of Charles and Jenny [Morris] Alexander. His early school was in rural and Gravity schools.

He was married to Catherine Wenzell, who died in 1934, and then to Avis Morey in 1935. He was stricken with polio in 1946, which changed his farming career to that of owner of a repair shop in Gravity. Illness caused him to give this up last July.

Survivors include his wife, Avis, and seven children, Charles of Long Beach, Calif., Fred of Old Bridge, NJ, Roger of Moberly, Mo, Bill of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lyle of Red Oak, Carol of Ames, and Lois Pratt of Shenandoah. His brother is Walter of Bedford.

Final Rites Held In Gravity for Frank E. Davis

Funeral services for Frank E. [lmer] Davis, 82, long time farmer of the Gravity area, were held December 14 at the United Methodist Church in Gravity, with Rev. Clarence Morrill officiating. Mr. Davis died December 11, 1972 at Fairfax Community Hospital, Fairfax, Mo. where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Frank   E. [lmer] Davis   was born   April   16, 1890 at Gravity, the son of Abednago [Abednego] and Sara Jane Combs Davis.

On December 7, 1910 he was married to Edith Etta Johnson, who survives. Mr. Davis had spent all of his life in the Gravity area with the exception of a few years in Weslaco, Texas. For the past two years he has been at Rock Port, Mo. near a daughter.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Melva) Bunn of Rock Port, and Mrs. Mildred Brown of Omaha; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Dorte L. [ove] Davis of Weslaco, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Ida McFarland of Paso Robles, Calif., and Mrs. Aurora Dickinson of Omaha.

A daughter, Dorothy, preceded him in death at the age of 10.

Funeral services for Mrs. John (Harriet) Frazier, 79, of Bedford were held January 7 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Ollie Odle. Mrs. Frazier died January 3, 1973. Interment was at     Fairview Cemetery.

Harriet [Adaline] Brown Frazier, youngest daughter of Dave and Sue Brown was born at Civil Bend, Missouri, August 20, 1893.

On November 26, 1913 she was united in marriage to John [Edman] Frazier at Trenton, Missouri, and to this union one daughter was born. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, two half-sisters and three half-brothers.

She is survived by her husband, John of the home, 1201 Lone Mountain, Bedford; daughter, Mildred Scott and her husband Herschel of Blockton; one brother, Charlie Brown, of Blockton; two granddaughters, Jo Ann Garner and her husband, Earl, Deloris Guilliatt and her husband, Richard, all of Bedford; one great granddaughter, Beth Guilliatt to whom she was devoted and loved dearly; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

At an early age she became a member of the Baptist Church at Civil Bend, Mo.

Mrs. Frazier was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by all her friends and loved ones.

EARL G. BEAN, 66, DIES IN WASHINGTON    

Earl Glen Bean, 66, of 1808 Sliger Road, died Wednesday morning in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, Yakima, Washington.

Mr. Bean was born in New Market, Iowa and went to the Yakima Valley in 1940. He was a retired coal miner and farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna [Bell Parks] Bean; two sons, Robert of Seattle and William of San Diego; two brothers, Hobert of Liberty, Mo. and Dan of Yakima; two sisters, Mrs. Tansy Templeton of Liberty and Mrs. Clara O'Dell of Lebanon, Mo.; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Jennie Uphouse Rites Held Here January 6

Funeral services for Mrs. Albert (Jennie Robey) Uphouse, 59, of Denver, Colo., were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford January 6 with Rev. Ray McCain officiating. Mrs. Uphouse died in Denver December 31, 1972. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, Bedford.

Jennie Robey Uphouse was the youngest daughter of Frank W. [ilson]  and Mary May [Kernen] Robey. She was born on March 30, 1913 at their farm home near Gravity, Iowa. She attended school in Gravity, and was baptized in the Christian Church in Gravity at an early age. Most of her life was spent in Denver, Colorado, working as a waitress.

On Sept. 5, 1957, she was wed to Albert Uphouse. There were no children to bless their family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Uphouse; brother, Clyde Robey, and his wife, Helen, of Conway; a brother, Jake Robey, and his wife, Mary, of Lawrence, Indiana; a sister, Jessie, and her husband, Lloyd Bond, of Winterset, Iowa; a sister, Edna, and her husband, Marion Luther, of Bedford; two nephews and one niece, and a favorite uncle, John Kernen, of Bedford.

She will be sorely missed by the family and friends who knew her and loved her.

Last Rites Held In Blockton For Mrs. E. G. Menelaus

Funeral services for Mrs. Everett G. (Edna Hoxworth) Menelaus, 76, were held in the Blockton United Methodist Church February 18 conducted by Rev. Oliver Larkin. Mrs. Menelaus died February 15, 1973 in the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, Iowa after suffering a long illness. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Block-ton.

Edna, first of three daughters, was born to Oliver Ware and Nora Alice [Snyder] Hoxworth, in Athelstan, Iowa, on July 3, 1896.

At the age of 11 she moved with her family to a farm in Ringgold County, near Blockton, where she grew to womanhood; she attended the Blockton Public School, graduating in 1915. She then taught school in Brush College until her marriage on July 1, 1917, to Everett G. [ayland] Menelaus; to this union were born two daughters, Jean Yvonne of Blockton, Iowa and Kathleen Yvette, of Topeka, Kansas.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and a sister, Bernice.

Her survivors include her husband, Everett; her daughters; three grandsons, Dr. Gary Cavanaugh of Iowa City, Iowa and Mark and Kevin Ratekin, of Topeka, Kansas; her sister, Mrs. Audry [Audrey] Fuller of Guymon, Oklahoma; two nieces; four nephews; six grand nieces; four grand nephews; four cousins and a host of friends.

Throughout the difficult last months, her courage, hope, interest and compassion for others never lessened.

Final Rites For Homer Brand, 66 Held Feb. 13

Funeral services for Homer Beryl Brand, 66, lifelong Taylor County resident, held February 15 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings. Mr. Brand died February 13, 1973 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa following an extended illness. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Homer Beryl Brand, son of Elmer A. [ustin] Brand and Lula Mae Greer Brand, was born June 12, 1906, near New Market, la. He moved to Bedford with his parents in his early youth and here he attended school until his parents moved to the Clearfield, Iowa, community.

On February 16, 1927, he was united in marriage to Rosa Campbell at the home of the bride's parents near Diagonal, Iowa, and they lived near Clearfield, where they were engaged in farming. During this time he served as rural mail carrier for several years and operated the theatre in Clearfield. They moved near Blockton later and in 1940 to their present home east of Bedford where they have been an active part of the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Rosa Brand, of the home; one daughter, Lulu Mae Townsend and her husband, Eldon; two grandsons, Edwin Paul and Evan Beryl; other relatives and many friends.

He was a kind and considerate, husband, father, friend and neighbor and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Elmer A. Brand Rites To Be Held Thurs., Dec. 26

Funeral services for Elmer A. [ustin] Brand, 86, of Bedford, will be held Thursday, December 26, at 708 Madison Street Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, with Carl Cummings officiating.  Mr. Brand died Sunday at the Corning Rest Home.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Elmer A. Brand Final Rites Held December 26

Funeral services for Elmer A. [ustin] Brand, 86, of Bedford, held December 26 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings.  Mr. Brand died December 22, 1968 at the Corning Rest Home.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Elmer Austin Brand, son of William [Austin] and Hattie Belle McFarland Brand, was born at Riverton, Iowa, December 27, 1881.  The family moved to Taylor County, Iowa during his boyhood years and he attended the Maple Lawn, Clayton No. 7 school, east of Bedford.

On July 31, 1905 he was united in marriage to Lulu Mae Greer and one son, Homer, was born to bless their home and share their love.

He had lived the most of his life in Taylor County Iowa, where he was engaged in farming and for a number of years he drove Dr. Reed, M. D. of Clearfield, Iowa, on his house calls.  For 15 years he drove the Star Mail Route between Clearfield and Diagonal in addition to his farm activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Roy, Earl and Everett and a sister Cora, also two other members of his family who died in infancy.

Left to cherish memories of his good life are his son, Homer and his wife Rosa; granddaughter, Lulu Mae and her husband Eldon Townsend, and great grandchildren, Edwin and Evan Townsend; a sister, Mrs. Iva Akers of Gravity; brothers-in-law, Oscar Akers of Gravity and Alfred Greer of Topeka, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Everett Brand [Jennie May Johnson] of Creston, Mrs. Roy Brand of Clearfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He will be missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
