Mrs. Sarah Bruner
Mrs. Susan Bruner died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Polsley in Conway, Sunday evening, Oct. 16.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Conway Tuesday afternoon, Oct 18, conducted by Rev. B. R. Weetman. Burial was in the Conway cemetery.
Mary Susan McMurtry was born in a log cabin near Galesburg, Ill., August 27, 1852. She
spent most of her girlhood in this locality where she united with the Methodist church.
She married J. [oseph] A. Bruner Dec. 12, 1871 and went to Jasper county, Iowa, where they resided for a few years. In 1882 they moved to Taylor County, where they settled on a farm,
To them were born five children, [Mary] Elizabeth Hughes, William [Frank] Bruner, Flora [Stell] Bowen, Grace [Ann] Bruner and Minnie Polsley. The four oldest children preceded her in death leaving Minnie Polsley her only surviving child. Besides her daughter she leaves to mourn her loss four sisters and one brother; four grandsons, three granddaughters and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Bruner died in December 1893. After his death she remained on the farm until 1898
and then moved to Conway where she had since resided. She loved her home and lived there alone until her last illness and then went to her daughter's home to spend her last days.

OBITUARY
Funeral services for Mrs. Elton Bruner, 39, who died at her home south-east of Conway, Monday, Feb. 22, were held at the Methodist church in Blockton Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24, conducted by Rev. W. H. Warrior. Burial was in the Blockton cemetery.
Myrtle Ruth Hogg, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. W. [illiam] D. Hogg [Elnora Ballou], both deceased, was born near Blockton, Nov. 27, 1897. She was one of a family of four children, a brother George dying in infancy; another brother, Richard, who passed away in 1925; and Clarence Hogg of Blockton. Her father died Dec. 26, 1920 and her mother, March 1, 1924.
She became a member of the Methodist church at Blockton when a child and graduated from
the Blockton high school in 1915.
Dec. 15, 1915, she was married to Elton C. [ecil] Bruner. They located on a farm near Blockton and later moved south of Conway, where they have since resided. To them was born one son, Kenneth, who with the husband, survives.
Mrs. Bruner united with the Methodist church at Conway in 1922 and was always an active member. She was teacher of the Four Square class of the Sunday school when elected as superintendent three years ago.
She suffered intensely during her brief illness.

Active In Church And Community Affairs—Burial at Blockton
Mrs. Elton Bruner [Myrtle Ruth Hogg], 38, died at her home southeast of Conway Monday, Feb. 21, following an illness with flu and complications.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Blockton on Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. A Walls of Conway, assisted by Rev. W. H. Warrior of Blockton. Burial was made at Blockton.
Mrs. Bruner was active in the work of the church and community, being the Sunday school superintendent at the time of her death. She will be greatly missed by her relatives, neighbors and friends. She is survived by her husband, a son Kenneth, and a brother, Clarence Hogg of Blockton.

Mrs. Elton Bruner Dead
Friends here regretted to learn of the death of Mrs. Elton Bruner, who passed away at her home east of Conway Monday evening, about 8:30, following a week's illness with a severe cold with complications.
Mrs. Bruner was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Hogg of northwest of town. She was a graduate of the Blockton schools, graduating with the class of 1915. She was aged 39 years.
Since her marriage to Mr. Bruner, they have resided on the farm north west of town and on the farm near Conway.
The immediate family left to mourn her untimely death are her husband, son, Kenneth, and her brother, C. B. Hogg and family.
Funeral services were held at the Blockton Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. A. Wall of the Conway Methodist church, assisted by Rev. W. H. Warrior, pastor of the Blockton Methodist church. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery, Blockton.

Obituary – Myrtle Ruth Hogg, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Hogg, was born Nov. 27, 1897, at the home northwest of Blockton and departed this life at her late home southeast of Conway Feb. 22, 1937, at the age of 39 years, 2 months and 25 days.
She was of a family of 4 children. A brother, George, died in infancy; another brother, J. Richard, died in 1925; Clarence of Blockton survives. Her father preceded her Dec. 26, 1920 and her mother March 1, 1924.
She was baptized by Rev. Carl Brown, pastor of the Blockton Methodist church, when she was a child.
She graduated from the Blockton high school in 1915.
She was united in marriage to Elton C. Bruner on Dec. 15, 1915, Rev. William Mercer, pastor of the Blockton Methodist church, performing the ceremony.
The Bruners located on a farm near Blockton, later moving to a farm southeast of Conway where they have continued to make their home.
When they located near Conway, they transferred their church membership to the Conway Methodist church in 1922 where they have been active in the life of the church. She was teacher of a Sunday school class, from which position she was elected superintendent of the Sunday school three years ago.
Her husband's health has been a cause of ever watchful care thru many years of devotion to him and his interests on the farm and in the community. Again and again, she has taken his place in the work when sickness made it impossible to carry on. She did not stint nor spare herself in helping those persons and causes that won her admiration and love.
Besides her husband son, Kenneth, she was greatly devoted to her nieces and nephew—Helen, Darlene, Dorothy and Vaughn. Helen was with her during her last illness.
She was not sick long, but she suffered much during her brief illness.
Funeral services were held from the Blockton Methodist church Feb. 24 with Rev. Walls, pastor of the Conway Methodist church and Rev. W. H. Warrior of the Blockton Methodist church conducting the services. Interment was made in the Blockton cemetery.
Many fine tributes were paid to her memory by her pastor.

Ethel Bruner, 84 Rites Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Elton (Ethel) Bruner, 84, of Bedford, formerly of Conway, were held Mon., Dec. 4, at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Bruner died December 1, 1972, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Mo. Interment was at the Conway Cemetery.
Ethel Clara Carmichael, daughter of Ransom and Elizabeth Burch Carmichael, was born May 27, 1888, in Nodaway County, Missouri.
She moved to Taylor County, Iowa when 10 years of age; here she attended the public schools and grew to adulthood, taking part in church and community activities, thus sharing her time and abilities.
In November of 1919 she was united in marriage to Thomas Lambley and they engaged in farming in the Conway community until moving to Conway in 1929. Mr. Lambley died in 1941.
On January 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Elton C. [ecil] Bruner and they lived in Conway until his death March 2, 1966.
Ill health caused her to enter the Nursing Home in Lenox and later Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Bedford, where she had continued to reside until her last illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Norman, William, Hubbard, and Homer Carmichael and one sister, Marie Parks.
She was the youngest of six children and the last of her family.
Left to cherish her memory are: a stepdaughter, Mrs. J. Ross (Belle) Kopp; two stepsons: Harry Lambley and Kenneth Bruner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was a member of the Conway Church and faithful in attendance as long as health permitted; and she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bruner will long be remembered as a kind and considerate loved one and friend and she
will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Elton Bruner Rites March 5
Funeral services for Elton C. [ecil] Bruner, 70, of Conway were held March 5 at the Conway Methodist Church with Rev. E. S. Tschetter officiating. Mr. Bruner died March 2, 1966 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Conway Cemetery, Conway.
The following obituary was included in the services.
Elton Cecil Bruner, son of William [Frank] and Ella [Grubb] Bruner, was born Sept 6, 1895 on a farm southeast of Conway, and his early life was spent on this farm. He had one sister, Darlene, who passed away when very young.
On December 15, 1915, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Ruth Hogg and located on a farm near Blockton. Later they moved back to the Conway community. Ruth passed away on February 22, 1937 after a short illness.
On January 3,1948, he was married to Ethel Carmichael Lambley and they made their home in Conway.
All his life he gave his heart to God and lived a sincere Christian life, setting a high moral standard, which he daily endeavored to obtain. Being a member of the Methodist Church all his life the church, community and fellowmen were his utmost goals in life.
He leaves his wife; one son, Kenneth; daughter-in-law, Beverly; three grandchildren Kathryn, Scott, and Keith; two aunts; several cousins and many, many friends.

Obituary—Wm. Bruner
William Frank Bruner, son of Joseph and [Mary] Susan [McMurtry] Bruner, was born near North Henderson, Ill., December 14, 1873, and departed this life at his home near Conway, Ia.. Aug 15, 1932, at the age of 58 years 8 months and 1 day.
In 1882 he came with his parents to Taylor County, settling near Conway, where he grew to manhood.
On October 11, 1894, he was married to Miss Ella Grubb. To this union was born one son, Elton C. [ecil]. His loving wife preceded him in death in 1905, leaving the father sole care of the young son with whom he has been continuously filling the place of both father and mother.
The deceased was married again and from this union one daughter, Darlene Gwendolyn, who died in August, 1913, at the age of 2 1-2 years.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his son, Elton C. [ecil]; his daughter-in-law and his grandson, Kenneth, to whom he gave his undivided love; his aged mother, Mrs. Susan Bruner,
and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Polsley, and Mrs. E. [dwin] R. Bowen [Flora], all of Conway, besides a host of other relatives and friends. His father and two sisters preceded him in death.
He had been in failing health several months since the dreaded disease of cancer had taken hold of him. All that earthly hands could do was of no avail. He was a kind, loving and patient sufferer.
He had given his heart to Christ and often praised him for the peace and joy he found with Him. He was so grateful that Jesus had accepted him that he gladly gave his testimony hoping to help some one else before his departure. He said the Lord was good to him, had saved him and that he was going home. He asked many of his relatives and friends to meet him in heaven.
He was held in high esteem in the Conway community as was shown by the many friends
who visited him during his illness.
To know him was to respect and love him.
So when our latest breath
Shall rend the vail in twain,
By death we shall escape
from death and life eter-
nal gain.
The funeral services were held at the Conway M. E. Church at 2 oÕclock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. L. Thomas. Interment was made in the Conway cemetery.

Grace Ann Bruner
The community of Conway and vicinity was shocked on learning of the death of Miss Grace Bruner, which occurred last Friday after only a brief illness. Miss Bruner was well known by every one in the vicinity, having resided in and near Conway nearly all her life, and for several years was an efficient clerk in Burge Bros. store. She had many friends who are saddened by her death.
Grace Ann Bruner was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Bruner [Mary Susan McMurtry], and was born in North Henderson, Illinois. At the age of 2 years, she with her parents moved to the farm home near Conway until after the death of her father, which occurred Dec. 3, 1893. Later the family moved to town where they have since resided. Grace leaves to mourn her going, her aged mother, Mrs. Susan Bruner; three sisters, Mrs. E. [dwin] R. Bowen [Flora], Mrs. I. [saac] N. [ewton] Hughes [Mary Elizabeth], and Mrs. Minnie Polsley; one brother, Wm. F. [rank] Bruner, and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Conway on last Sunday afternoon, Rev. G. T. Roberts, pastor of the Bedford Methodist church, conducting the funeral services. The burial was made in the Conway cemetery.

Mrs. Isaac Hughes
Mary Elizabeth Bruner, daughter of Joseph A. and [Mary] Susan [McMurtry] Bruner, was born near North Henderson, Ill., Sept. 19, 1872, and passed away at her home near Conway, Ia., May 23, 1930, at the age of 57 years, 8 months and 4 days. At the age of 10 years she with her parents moved to Iowa, locating on a farm southeast of Conway. In the year 1894, March 7, she was united in marriage to Isaac N. [ewton] Hughes, To this union two children were born, Glen M.[ilo] of Conway, who was present at the funeral, and Grace Opal who preceded her mother in death when but five years of age. Her father also preceded her in death 36 years ago, and one sister, Grace [Ann] Bruner, preceded her 3 years ago. When but a young girl Mrs. Hughes united with the church near Blockton, Ia., later transferring her membership to Conway, where she remained a member until her death. She was a kind and Loving mother and companion, always thinking of others, finding no sacrifice too great when help was needed. She leaves behind to mourn her going, a husband, one son Glen, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glen Hughes; 3 grandchildren, Darlene, Dorothy and Luetta Hughes; her mother, Mrs. Susan Bruner; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Polsley and Mrs. Edward Bowen [Flora], and one brother, Will Bruner, all of near Conway, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. May 25th, at 2:00 p. m., at the Conway Methodist Church conducted by the pastor. Rev. James Wilkins, after which interment was made in the Conway cemetery.

Mrs. Roger McAlister received a message last Saturday morning telling of the death of her father-in-law, A. [rcher] E. [dwin] McAlister which occurred at 8:30 Friday morning in St. Joseph, Mo. The body was taken to his home at Milan, Mo., where the funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. He was a brother-in-law of Will King of Hopkins, Mo.

Roger McAlister Rites Feb. 7
Funeral services for Roger McAlister, 58, of Sheridan, Mo., were held February 7 at the Sheridan Methodist Church with Cleo Colville officiating. Mr. McAlister died February 3 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at New Hope Cemetery east of Hopkins, Mo.
Roger McAlister, son of Archer Edwin and Mary Elizabeth White McAlister, was born March 21, 1907 in Milan, Mo. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Milan, Mo., where he spent his childhood. He also attended college for a while in Kirksville.
Roger came from a family of ten. His mother, Mrs. Mary Moore of Milan, Mo.; brothers and sister: Carl of Milan, Archie of California, Cecil of California, Irvin of Washington, Mrs. Evelyn Winemiller of Blockton, Ia., Bruce of Kirksville, Edward of Jacksonville, Fla., and Frank of Los Angeles, Calif., survive. Richard is deceased. He was joined in wedlock to Maudie Marie Stoner on March 7, 1929 and to this union were born four children: Anna Marie Taylor of St. Louis, Mo.; Roger McAlister, Jr. of Red Oak, Ia.; Charles McAlister of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and William Dale McAlister of Adak, Alaska. He also had ten grandchildren.
Found in his wallet was a clipping which expressed his thoughts and Philosophy of life:
"I am bigger than anything that can happen to me. All these things, sorrow, misfortune, and suffering, are outside my door. I am in the house and I have the key."

Leland Hopson Rites Feb 25
Funeral services for Leland [H.] Hopson, 69, of Des Moines, formerly of Bedford, were held February 25 at Dunn Funeral Home in Des Moines. Mr. Hopson died February 23, 1966 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Interment was at the Masonic Cemetery there.
Leland Hopson was a son of the late Bert [Albert C.] Hopson. He was a 1916 graduate of Bedford High School.

Leland Hopson Is Dead at 69
Leland H. [all] Hopson, 69, of 724 Fortieth st., died of cancer Tuesday at Veterans Hospital. He had been ill several months.
Mr. Hopson was claims manager here for the American Surety Co. before retiring in 1962. Born at Bedford, he lived in Des Moines 45 years and was a 1921 graduate of the University of Iowa.
He was a member of the University Christian Church, Capital Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Consistory and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Services are being arranged at Dunn's Funeral Home.
Surviving are his widow, Leone; a son, J. Robert of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. F. David Tow of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Mrs. Edith O'Dell of Des Moines and six grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials in the form of contributions to the Rowley Masonic Home at Perry.

Bert Hopson Dies In Hospital Saturday
Bert Hopson, a resident of Bedford and community for many years, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines Saturday, Sept. 2, after having been in failing health for several years.
The body was brought to Bedford and the funeral services were held at the Walker & Shum Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
Albert C. Hopson born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin October 19, 1866, being aged 77 years, 10 months and 14 days at the time of his death. He moved to Bedford as a young man and lived most of his life in this community, with the exception of the last few years, which he spent in Long Beach, California.
On February 26, 1896 he was married to Mary Edith Hall.
He is survived by two sons, Leland H. Hopson of Des Moines, and Ralph W. Hopson of Kansas City, Missouri. Another son, Lawrence Vern Hopson, died in infancy.
He is also survived by two brothers, John W. [esley] Hopson of Bedford and Seymour J. [ames] Hopson of Los Angeles; and by three grandchildren.

Funeral services for John Wesley Hopson, life long Taylor County resident, held Feb 20 in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. J., Milton Kinney. Interment was in the Bedford cemetery.

John Wesley Hopson, son of James Elliott and Lydia Honeysett Hopson, was born June 4, 1876 at Bedford, Iowa, and died at his home in Bedford, Feb 18, 1963 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was married to Tessie Hopson, Feb. 18, 1902. To them were born ten children, one deceased at birth. Tessie died May 8, 1930. He was married to Lula Jared Dec. 12, 1934.
He is survived by his wife and the children: Carl, Anderson, Calif., Ruth Park and Flavia Davidson, Bedford, Humphrey, Anderson, Calif., Frank, Kansas City, Mo., Marjorie, Bedford, Lydia Holmes, San Fernando, Calif., Oliver, Sacramento, Calif., Lucille, Los Angeles, Calif., Keith Jared, Minneapolis, Minn.; also 23 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; one brother Seymour, Los Angeles, Calif.; three half-sisters and one half brother preceded him in death. A number of nieces and nephews survive him.
He was born and lived on the same farm for 71 years; then retired to his gardens in town. He always loved his gardening and his flowers and enjoyed sharing them with his friends. He was a good neighbor to everybody and especially to anyone in need. He was particularly kind to older people and to the sick. Children were very fond of him. He was known for his honesty and generosity. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

Last Rites Held October 26 for Lula Hopson, 82
Funeral services for Mrs. John (Lula) Hopson, 82, of Bedford were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here October 26 conducted by Carl Cummings and Rev. Robert Truitt. Mrs. Hopson died Oct. 24, 1972 at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Lula Belle Bruner, daughter of Wm. T. [heophilus] and Clarissa [Ann] Lomax Bruner, was born in Taylor County Iowa, January 21, 1890.
She attended the Bedford Public Schools and grew to adulthood in this community.
On December 21,1910, she was united in marriage to Glen L. [ewis] Jared and to this union one son, [James] Keith, was born.
Her husband died in 1926 and she married John [Wesley] Hopson in 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1963. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers -- one who died in infancy and James C. [lio] Bruner who died in 1941.
With the exception of two winters spent in California she had lived her entire life time in Taylor County, Iowa. She had for many years cared for elderly people in her home in Bedford.
Left to cherish memories of her good life are her son, Keith and his wife, Geraldine, of Bloomington, Minn.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Janet Kerr of Kansas City, Mo. and James Jared of Farmington, Minn.; six great grandchildren, Dawn, Mark, Tim and Danny Jared and Kenneth and Karen Kerr; other relatives and step children, Ruth Park, Flavia Davidson, Lucile Hopson and Carl, Humphrey, Oliver and Frank Hopson; cousins: Violet Nall, Joe & Iris Holmes.
She was a long time member of the Methodist Church.
She was a kind and considerate mother, friend and neighbor and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
