George T. Campbell

George T. Campbell, a son of Joseph and Ellen Campbell, was born near the city of Philadelphia, Penn., on Oct. 1, 1847, and when about six years old his parents moved to Davenport, Iowa.  Just preceding the Civil War, when about 12 or 13 years old he went to St. Louis, Mo., and for several years was employed as a cabin boy on a Mississippi river boat.  Leaving St. Louis, he went to Kansas and there in the month of May 1875, he was united in marriage to Mary E. [lizabeth] Bell.  That same year, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell located on a farm in Taylor County, Iowa, and the following year took up their residence in Bedford where they lived until 1920, moving from the city to a farm in the same county, 3 miles north of Sheridan, Mo.  To Mr. and Mrs. Campbell five children were born, three of whom, Roy, Walter and Orin, died in infancy; a son, Frank, and a daughter, Grace, surviving their father and with their mother remaining to mourn his death.  Mr. Campbell had been in poor health for some months and was suddenly stricken about 11 o'clock, Wednesday evening, Dec. 29th, 1926, when preparing to retire for the night.  The deceased had attained the age of 79 years, 2 months and 28 days.  He was a member of the Masonic and K. of P. lodges, and when a young man had united with the M. E. church, but had not sustained this relationship.

Following the service in the Presbyterian Church on Dec. 31, interment was given in the Bedford cemetery, the committal service being in charge of the Masonic order.

Dr. Andrew Binnie

Dr. Andrew Binnie [Bennie] was born in Macomb, Ill., and came with his parents to Taylor County, Iowa, when about 10 years of age.  Residing on the farm until a young man, he decided on the study of medicine and entered the State University of Iowa City, and also attended the college of medicine in Lincoln, Neb., graduating with honor as a physician and surgeon in 1883.  He then located in northern Kansas and engaged in the practice of his profession.  He was an honored member of the State Medical Association, also a member of the school board, and for a number of years served as mayor of Almena.  He was widely known for his deeds of kindness and his assistance was never refused to any in need of his ministrations.  Dr. Binnie [Bennie] was taken suddenly ill Saturday night, Dec. 18, 1926, and was hurried to the hospital in Norton, and an expert surgeon wired to meet them.  The surgery was performed, but proved unavailing.  Death came Tuesday morning, Dec. 21, caused by a rupture in the esophagus for which nothing could be done.  Dr. Binnie [Bennie] leaves a wife and two sons---Herbert, a practicing physician, and Harold, with a wife and little daughter.  One brother, Robert Binnie [Bennie] of Lurion, Colo., and one sister, Mrs. T. [homas] F. [ranklin] Armstrong [Elizabeth], of Bedford, Ia., remain.  Both were present at the funeral.  The passing of Dr. Binnie [Bennie] in his 68th years has caused much sadness and sorrow in his home community.
