Robert Van Reenan Died At Home Sat.
Robert Van Reenan [Reenen], 70 years of age, died at his home here last Saturday, August 1st, after an illness of about four years. While his health had been poorly some time and he had submitted to several operations in seeking relief, he had kept on in his business until just recently.
The funeral services were held at the home Monday August 3rd, at 2 p. m. and the body laid to rest in the Bedford Mausoleum. Rev. Roberts of the Methodist church had charge of the services and A. L. Stithem of the funeral and burial. His nephews acted as pallbearers.
Following is the obituary as read by the minister:
Robert Cornelius Van Reenan [Reenen] was born in Pocahontas County, W. Virginia, on the 24th day of August 1855, and died at his home in Bedford, Iowa, August 1, 1925, at the age of 69 years, 11 months, and 17 days.
At an early age his parents removed with him to Scott County, Iowa, and then when he had reached the age of 14 years, they removed to Taylor County, Iowa, and located on a farm. Here he grew to manhood.
On the 1st day of January 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Burnside. They purchased a farm and made their home in Taylor County and there they resided until eight years ago when they moved into Bedford to educate their children.
To them were born five children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive and were at his bedside when he passed away.
He was christened as a child by a minister of the Methodist church and when he came to the place of choosing the Christian faith for himself, he united with the church and remained a faithful member the remainder of his days. For some time his sickness had prevented his attendance upon church services, a privilege which he greatly missed.
During his residence in Bedford he had engaged in business until a few weeks ago when his sickness compelled him to give it up. He had been ailing for about four years, growing gradually worse until the end came peacefully Saturday afternoon, August the first.
He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful and beloved wife, his two daughters, Mesdames Rose Avey of Blockton, Iowa and Myrtle DeBord of Mayfield, Ky., his three sons, Elvin of Bedford, Ralph of Emmons, Minn., and Floyd of Bedford; nine grand children, one brother, [John] David Van Reenan of Bedford, two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Waterman of Bedford and Mrs. Mary Hartley of Topeka, Kansas.
Up to the time of his going there had been but one break in his immediate family, that of his grandson, Dean Avey, which occurred about two years ago.
His has been a long, useful and active life and his family and friends and acquaintances all say he was a good man.

Bedford and community suffered a severe loss this week when Mrs. M. [arenus] J. Van Reenan was summoned to appear before her Maker. The deceased had been in ill health for several months and the end was not unexpected. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 oÕclock from the home, Rev. C. C. Hatcher of the First Baptist church officiating in the absence of Rev. Levi P. Goodwin of the First M. E. church. Interment was made in Lexington cemetery.
Sarah Ann Warren was born at Athens, Ohio, Dec. 21, 1835, and passed to the beyond from her home in Bedford, June 11, 1917.
In early life she was united in marriage to the late Rev. Zebedee Wood, a minister of the M. E. church. She proved the helpmate in his work, in which they labored together for nine years.
To them were born two children, one becoming a gospel minister, but both deceased.
In 1903, after a widowhood of 35 years, she united in marriage with Marinus [Marenus] J. Van Reenan of Bedford, who survives her and feels keenly the crushing weight of sorrow.
Three brothers and one sister survive, Sam Warren, California; Geo. B. Warren, Bedford; Frank Warren, Conway; Mrs. Lydia Fleming, Chicago, Ill. With these a host of relatives and friends share in the loss of this beautiful life of consecration and share in deepest sympathy with the bereft companion.
When about twenty years of age deceased gave her heart and life to her Master and has been loyally devoted to his KingdomÕs interests.
During the later winter months she declined in health, failing more rapidly the past few weeks.
Sustained and soothed to the end, she felt no pangs of suffering and facing the issue and event of death, said it was all right.
She sang and bespoke her MasterÕs praises as in her life her experiences of grace had been a favorite topic of converse with her.
Thus her devoted companion, her church, the First M. E. church of Bedford, the community, and the Kingdom of our Lord sustain the loss of a loyal, faithful and devoted life that shall shine in His glory as in this life she had been delighted to let her light shine before others to the Glory of the Father above.
