[Church, Stella Gloe]

Iowa South-West

Saturday     April 12, 1879     p. 3

In Memoriam

Dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Church, in memory of little Stella Gloe, who died March 16th, 1879, aged 6 weeks and four days.

One more taken from the little fold,

  Beloved by one and all;

She has passed from among us,

  Heeding her Savior’s call.

So, we laid her to slumber,

  To sleep ‘neath the snow,

Like the flowers in the harvest

  By the Reaper laid low.

She is gone, --the one we loved so dear,

  To her eternal rest,

She is gone to heaven we have no fear,

  And is forever blest.

This child to us was only lent;
  We thought it surely given,
But Jesus called and then she went
  To dwell with him in heaven.

Yes, farewell, Stella! How we loved
  You;
Oh, we miss thy winning smile.
Yes, the family tie is broken;
How sad and lonely all the while.

Your little lips, so sweet to kiss;
  Your eyes of heavenly blue;
Thy little form so dear to us--
  The form we loved so true.

Little darling, how you suffered
  While your stay with us on earth,
Yes, your stay with us was transcient,
  But we’d learned to love your gleeful
     mirth.

Farewell, darling! We know you are
     happy
In that fair, celestial clime,
Since thou hast joined that happy circle
  Beyond the vernal frosts of time.

       ------By Jennie and Emma.
