Fred Lincoln Rood

Fred Lincoln Rood, the fifth son of Charles and Elizabeth [Lyle] Rood, was born at Osceola, Ill., Oct. 14, 1863, and his life ebbed away at his home in Clearfield Dec. 11, 1926 at the age of 63 years, 1 month and 27 days.

When a lad of nine years he came with his parents to Iowa settling on the farm five miles southwest of Clearfield. In this community he grew to manhood and won for his life's companion Laura May Wentzel, being united in marriage Jan. 5, 1889. Into this home came six children, two having preceded their father in death, one in infancy and Edna Wilson, March 17, 1925. The other four, Frank and Will of Clearfield, Frances of Des Moines, and Mrs. Hazel Reed of Bedford, were at the bedside when the end came. He is also survived by his wife, one

brother Roy Rood of Clearfield and a sister Mrs. Emma Fulton of Cincinnati, Ohio, who with her daughter is present with the family today. He leaves five grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.

Mr. Rood has been in failing health since nine years ago when a stroke of paralysis came upon him while in Des Moines, and another this past summer which weakened him very much and complications brought about the end last Friday morning.

He made for himself a reputation among lovers of fine stock, being among the first to introduce the Poland China hog into this community. He left the farm in 1907, moving to Creston for a short time, returning to Clearfield and entered the Clearfield Hardware Co. After selling out his interest there, he was connected with Live Stock Journals being at the time of his death associate editor.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and of the Masonic and M. W. A. lodges. A wife has lost a good husband, sons and daughters have lost a good father and the community has lost a good citizen, but he left his contribution in their lives and affections and in the welfare of the community.

The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church. The Masonic brothers were seated in a body. Pastors Brown and Underwood assisted Rev. MacCartney in the service. A portion of the Masonic ritual for the dead was given by Mr. Belmont of Creston. The floral offerings were very beautiful.

Interment was in Clearfield cemetery.
