The death angel visited the home of Thomas Carson near Hopkins, Mo., and took to the eternal world the spirit of his beloved wife Elizabeth, Aug. 8, 1902, after an illness of several months. The best medical aid having been procured for her, but with no permanent relief.

Elizabeth Crawford Carson, was born May 11, 1838 in Cachokton [Coshocton] Co., Ohio; she was married to Thomas Carson Feb. 9, 1962 [1862] at Logan, Ohio; to this happy union three girls were given, Maggie, Mrs. Annie Oxley, who still survives her and Mattie E., who proceeded her to the better land, May 8, 1874 being 3 years, 8 months old.

In the fall of 1868 she moved to Union Co., Iowa, thence to their farm near Siam, Iowa, in 1870 where they resided about 21 yrs., at which time in 1898 they removed to Cherokee County, Kansas, where they resided 13 years, last fall they returned to New Market, Iowa, and remaining there till the 7th of March when they moved to the place of her death.

Sister Carson was baptized by the writer and received into the fellowship of the Christian church at Siam, Iowa, about 25 years ago and has lived a consistent and faithful Christian ever since, she was naturally a cheerful and hopeful disposition, intelligent and industrious, very conscientious, sympathetic and kind, with long acquaintance with her, I never heard her speak a harsh word against anyone, she made friends wherever she went by her kind and gentle disposition and her many kind deeds of love and good work's will not soon be forgotten.

The funeral services were conducted by the writer at Siam, Ia., on the following Sunday in the presence of a large and sympathetic audience after which the remains were laid to rest in the Siam cemetery to wait the Resurrection morn.

Martha McKee died August 1, 1898. She was born August 12, 1840, age 67 years, 11 months and 20 days. Her maiden name was Martha Carson; she was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, and moved with her parents to Union county, Iowa, in 1868 and from there to Taylor County in 1870. She married Reuben D. [ooley] McKee September 17, 1871, who departed this life August 29, 1874. She remained his widow until her Savior called her home. She was one of ten children—four boys and six girls. Two brothers and two sisters are still living—[James] Wesley Carson, Siam, Iowa; Thomas Carson, Melrose, Cherokee county, Kas.; Rebecca Pennington, Martins Ferry, Colman county, Ohio; Elizabeth Casner, Canonsburg, Noble county, Ohio. Martha Carson joined the M. E. church when about 18 years of age. When she came west she got her letter from that church, and when she came to this county gave it to the Christian church at Siam, and lived a devoted Christian until death. The funeral took place at 2 p. m., Tuesday, at the Christian church, and as the Christian minister was not present, the services were conducted by Rev. John Horton, pastor of the Methodist church, after which her remains were laid away in the Siam cemetery.

Martha, oh! dear Martha,
We feel our loss of thee.
We all loved you so dearly,
Yet Jesus loved you more than me.

He took you from us here below
To a home prepared above,
Left us back a little while
To mourn for one we did love.

[MCKEE, MARTHA CARSON]
Hopkins Journal (Hopkins, Missouri), August 4, 1898
Died at Siam
Mrs. Martha McKee was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, Aug. 12, 1830 and died at Siam, Ia., Aug. 1, 1898.

In 1868 she moved, with her parents, to Union County, Iowa, and from there to Taylor County, Iowa. In 1870, she was married to Reuben D. [ooley] McKee in 1871, and three years later she was left a widow by his death. She remained true to his memory until her Saviour called her home.

She was one of a family of ten children, four of whom survive her.

Mrs. McKee was widely known in this section, and to know her was to love her. For forty years she had been a devoted Christian and an active church worker, and her presence will be sadly missed from the Siam Christian church, of which she was a member. The funeral services were held at the Christian church on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, and, in the absence of the pastor, were conducted by the Methodist minister, Rev. John Horton.

Martha, oh, dear Martha,
We feel our loss of thee;
We all loved you so dearly,
Yet Jesus loved you more.

He took you from us here below,
To a home prepared above;
Left us here a little while
To mourn for one we love.
