Times-Republican Tuesday May 16, 1922 [p. 3] Dies In Kansas The
body of George [Washington] Van Camp arrived in Bedford Saturday noon from Leavenworth, Kans., accompanied
by the wife [Almira Niles] and a sister, Mrs. V. [erne] V. Boyer [Laura], of Warrensburg, Mo., and was laid to rest Saturday
afternoon in the Fairview cemetery. Deceased was about 57 years of age and
had formerly been a resident of Taylor County. Mr. Van Camp was a brother of Mrs. Frank Larison [Sarah] of Bedford and Dave Van Camp who resides near here. Their

A. [ugust] H. [enry] Warneke
[Vera Ellen] of Bedford
received word of the death of her brother, [John] Elroy Van Camp, 74, at a San Bernardino hospital November 3, following
a lingering illness. Mrs.
Warneke flew from Kansas City to attend funeral services for her brother,
Tues., Nov. 7. She
will spend the winter in Tempe, Arizona. [Mirtie
Belle Douthit Burwell] Bedford Times-Press Thursday November 21, 1968 Final Rites Held
November 7 For Mrs. C. A. Burwell Funeral
services for Mrs. C. A. (Mirtie) Burwell, 89, of Gravity, held November 9 at the Gravity Methodist Church, were
conducted by Rev. Richard G. Viney.
Mrs. Burwell died November 7 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital following
a lengthy illness. Interment
was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity. Mirtie
Belle Douthit, daughter
of Phineas and Margaret Douthit,
was born Nov. 4, 1879, in Page County, Iowa. She
was united in marriage March 8, 1898, to Clarence Alden Burwell. To
this union were born two sons and two daughters: Paul Burwell,
Monroe, N. C.; Robert Burwell,
Gravity; Edythe Johnson,
Congress, Ariz.; Ruth Stearns,
Bedford; all of whom survive. The
past 65 years of her life were spent in Taylor County. Mrs.
Burwell was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and three
brothers. Left
to cherish her memories, besides her children, are two brothers, Calvin
Douthit of Longmont, Colo.;
Harry Douthit of Clarinda,
Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and
a host of friends. She
was united with the Methodist Church as a young woman and remained faithful
to the church her entire life.
She will long be remembered as a kind and loving mother. Her kindness and generous personality were outstanding to her
family and all acquaintances. Bedford Times-Press Thursday November 28, 1968 Sophia Cirksena Rites Held Mon. Funeral
services for Mrs. Memo (Sophia) Cirksena, 86, Cheyenne, Wyoming, formerly of Bedford, were held Monday at Shum-Novinger
Funeral Home here conducted by Rev. Fred Paxton. Mrs. Cirksena died November 21 in Cheyenne.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Bedford Times-Press Thursday September 12, 1968 Paul Savage, 72, Rites September 5 Funeral
services for Paul Savage,
72, of New Market, were held September 5 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda,
conducted by Carl Cummings and Rev. George White. Mr. Savage died September 3 at his home in New Market. Interment was at Memory Cemetery, New
Market. Paul
Savage, son of Roscoe
Dowden and Ella Jane Fitzgerald, was born October 23, 1895, in Hitchcock County,
Nebraska. He
moved to Taylor County, Iowa when he was three years old and had lived
in New Market since 1938. He
was united in marriage to Nora Arthur on April 6, 1913. To this
marriage six children were born:
Edward of Bedford;
Elma Prather of Clarinda;
Erma Watkins of Calipatria,
Calif.; Elaine Sharpe
of New Market; Eldon of Atlanta, Georgia; Enis, who died in infancy. He
is survived by his wife; two sons; three daughters; two daughters-in-law;
three sons-in-law; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two
sisters: Ethel Adams
and Maude Cunningham, both of New Market; two brothers, Merle Savage
of Modesto, Calif., and Dow Savage
of Alamosa, Colo.; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He
was preceded in death by his parents, one son and three brothers. He
was a farmer and had worked for Taylor County for 31 years before retirement. Clarinda Herald

Puckett Died In Colorado Mrs.
C. F. (Margaret) Puckett,
84, died Friday at Longmont, Colo., where she had gone a few weeks ago
from her home at Coin to live with her daughter, Mrs. Esther McCord. Funeral
services were being held this Monday at Coin United Methodist Church
in charge of the Rev. William Tomlinson.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery near Coin. Music was to be furnished by William Mannasmith and Mrs. Robert
Reece. Mrs.
Puckett was born at Westboro, Mo., on Nov. 5, 1884, to James Madison
Trulock and Louisa Josephine Deel. She
spent her girlhood in Westboro community.
She was married on Dec. 12, 1905, to Clarence Franklin Puckett, who died in June 1963. They had nine children, two of whom preceded her in death. The
children include Alvin N. Puckett
of Shenandoah, Mrs. Hiram (Eloise) True of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Lavina McCord of Vallejo, Calif.; Mrs. Harry (Esther) McCord of Longmont, Colo.; Clarence Puckett of Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Gladys Bennett of Shenandoah, Mrs. Tom (Marjorie) Stevenson, Seward, Neb. The two who preceded their parents in death were Cpl. James
N. Puckett who gave his
life for his country in 1944 during World War II, and Crystal Puckett who died at age 13 in 1935. The
family moved to Page County in 1908 where they have since resided. They have lived in Coin since 1928. Casket
bearers were to be Flotho Puckett, Roger Puckett, Terry Sheirbon, James
Stevenson, Joe Stevenson and Jerome True.
Others assisting with the service were Mrs. Oren Armstrong, Mrs.
Evelyn Darby, Mrs. Ralph Gomel, Mrs. Edythe Reed, Mrs. Francis Sallee
and Ermal Wiar. [Isabelle

Baker Isabelle
Louisa Schade, one of
11 children born to Conrad and Theresia Schade,
was born at Thurman, Iowa, April 11, 1868. In 1871 she moved with her parents to Smith County, Kansas,
and after twelve years they returned to Iowa, making their home near
Glenwood. At
Hillsdale, near Glenwood, she was married to Elzy P. Baker, Oct. 26, 1892. To them were born Earl, Glen, Mabel and Pauline. Mr. and Mrs. Baker first
resided at Randolph, Iowa, and in 1898 came to Taylor County, locating
in the vicinity of the Fairview church, which was home to them for 42
years. In 1939 they moved to Gravity. By
her devotion to her family and loved ones, and her kind and neighborly
disposition, Mrs. Baker endeared herself to a large circle of friends
and neighbors. She counted
it a great privilege and joy to minister to those who were sick or in
need, and generously supported every enterprise which she believed was
for the good of the community. She was a member of the Fairview Congregational
church. On
Oct. 26, 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Baker celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Though
for some years Mrs. Baker's health has not been good, yet she did not
resort to medical aid until about three years ago, and not until the
last three weeks had she been confined to her bed.
She died Wednesday February 2, at the age of 75 years, 9 months
and 22 days. She
is survived by her husband, her children, Earl of Donna, Texas, Glen of Gravity, Mrs. Mabel Cooper of Corning and Mrs. Pauline Hadley of Brooks; one sister, Mrs. C. C. Baker of Villisca; and two brothers, Charles N. Schade
of King City, Mo., and Walter Schade
of Denver, Colo., 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Patricia
Kay Baker of Omaha. The
funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Feb. 4, 1944, at the
Fairview church by Rev. Z. M. Bressler of Gravity.
Burial was made in the Prairie Rose cemetery. |
