McCormick
passed away at his home southeast of Bedford about 6 o'clock Tuesday
morning. The funeral services were held this afternoon
at the Methodist Church, conducted Rev. M. R. Talley. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Dean McCormick
was born at Kirkwood, Ill., April 5th, 1878, and came to
Bedford, Iowa, when one month old.
He resided with his parents, Elisha and Susan [Cummings] McCormick, 5 miles south of Bedford until
15 years of age, when the family moved to the farm, which is now owned
by Claude Trumbo. In 1904 he was united in marriage to Alma
M. Orton. To this union was born one daughter, Rita
Zo‘,
who is now Mrs. Laurel Stithem. Mr. McCormick united with the M.E. church
in Bedford in January 1923, and has lived an earnest Christian life,
loved by all his neighbors and friends, who now mourn for him. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen
of America. Ever since
his marriage he has lived at the farm home where he passed away at 6
a.m., January 14, 1930. He
leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his daughter and husband, Rita and Laurel Stithem, and little granddaughter, Doris
Stithem;
three brothers, Edwin,
his twin brother, and Fred both of Bedford, and Walter McCormick of Amarillo, Texas; and four sisters,
Mrs. R. J. Montgomery of Hopkins, Mo., Mrs. F. P. Beard, Mrs. Claude Trumbo [Ruby] and Mrs. C. E. Jones of Bedford; besides many nephews
and nieces. The
funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon
at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M. R. Talley.
Interment was made in Fairview cemetery [Bedford]. |

County Lady Passes Away in Calif. Miss
Ella Hoover
has received word that her aunt, Miss
[Christine] Amelia Mix of Berkeley, Calif., had passed away, September 1st. She was past 90 years of age. Miss Mix was a former resident of Bedford
and a pioneer teacher of Taylor County, having taught school here in
the sixties, seventies and eighties.
She will be remembered here by many of the older residents. |

57, Succumbs Unexpectedly After Heart Attack Walter
McCormick,
57, a former resident of Bedford, died unexpectedly following a heart
attack the day previous, at his home in Amarillo, Texas, at 5 o'clock
Saturday evening. He
is survived by three sons and three daughters, his wife [Blanche
Bailie] and one daughter having died several
years ago. There are also
four sisters and two brothers surviving.
They are Mrs. Claude Trumbo [Ruby], Mrs. F.P. Beard, Mrs. C.E. Jones, Ed [win] McCormick and Fred McCormick of Bedford and Mrs. Robert Montgomery

of Pickering, Mo. Ed

accompanied by Howard Straight, left Sunday morning for Amarillo to
attend the funeral services and burial. |

Goodspeed
Dies in Chicago Arthur
Goodspeed,
51, a former resident of Bedford, died in Chicago Saturday, Sept. 9,
following a long illness. The
body was brought to Bedford and the funeral services held at the home
of Mrs. Ella [Aiton] Meikle
Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.A. Currie of Tarkio, Mo., a friend
of the family and former Bedford pastor.
He was assisted by Rev. C. F. McMican, pastor of the First Presbyterian
Church. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery [Bedford]. Frederick
[sic] [Franklin] Arthur Goodspeed, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. [ranklin] B. Goodspeed [Eliza
Jane Ogden],
was born near Berwick, Warren County, Ill., Aug. 5, 1882. He came to Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa, with his parents when
two years of age and had resided in and around Bedford practically all
of his life. He
was married to Miss Agnes Meikle Sept. 10, 1902. To
them were born two children, Robert F. Goodspeed, and a daughter, Ella Goodspeed,
who died in infancy. His
wife preceded him in death, Sept. 28, 1925.
Also his sister, Stella Goodspeed Brown, who died in 1913. Surviving
relatives are the son Robert F. Goodspeed of Chicago, his parents Mr. and Mrs. F. [ranklin]
B. Goodspeed of Maryville, and one brother, Edwin Ogden Goodspeed of Portland, Ore. |

Hoover,
80, Dies in Nebraska Joseph
Hoover [sic] [Josiah],
80, former resident of Bedford and father of Mrs. Al Denton [Estella Hoover] of the Forest Grove community,
died at his home in Bartley, Nebr., Wednesday, Feb. 7. The funeral services were held at the
Methodist church in Bartley Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. C.E.
Catlett. Burial was also
made at that place. Hoover
was born near Warren, Lee county, Iowa, May 21, 1853. He grew to manhood in Taylor county, Iowa, going to California
in 1871. He remained there
three years, returning to Iowa in 1874. He resided near Bedford [in Jackson Township] until 1900 when
he moved to Nebraska, which place had since been his home. October
24, 1875, he was married to Annetta Jones, who preceded him in death five years ago. They were the parents of ten children,
two having died in infancy. Those
surviving are Mrs. Estella Denton of Bedford, Mrs. Jessie Ernest of McCook, Nebr., Roy J. Hoover
of Mountain Grove, Mo., Clay C. Hoover of Bartlett, Kans., Mrs. Goldie King of Nampa, Ida., Mrs. Ethel King
and Jay Hoover
of Bartley, Nebr., Mrs. Hazel Book of Lodgepole, Nebr. All of the children were with their father at the time of his
death. There
also survives one sister, Mrs. Nora [Leonora] Hoover, and a brother, Clint Hoover of Santa Cruz, Calif., twenty-six
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. |
