Vivian Christine Haidsiak was born December 8, 1909 in Blockton, Iowa the daughter of Arthur Ray Sharp and Isa Ora Lough Sharp. She grew up in the Blockton area, graduating from school in 1927. After graduation, Vivian was a rural schoolteacher for several years. Vivian met Frank Haidsiak at a barn dance and the couple were later married on February 6, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri. To this loving union two daughters were born, Carol and Mary.

After their marriage, Frank and Vivian lived with Frank's parents for a few years before moving out on their own. In 1937, they moved to a small farm northwest of Blockton. Later they purchased a farm one mile away, living there until 1973 when they moved to Bedford. Frank continued to farm until retiring and they sold the farm in 1979. On November 26, 1999, Frank passed away. This was a big loss for Vivian as she had worked close by her husband for most of their married life. She continued to live at their home in Bedford until 2001 when her health forced her to enter the Bedford Nursing& Rehab Center.

Vivian was a United Methodist Church member in Blockton for over fifty years, and was active in the Methodist Women's Club. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Liberty Neighborhood Club.

Vivian enjoyed reading on any subject and had the incredible ability to retain all she read. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles; her knowledge of Latin served her well as she worked these puzzles. She was a true farmer's wife, doing what ever was needed to help Frank and the family. She tended a large garden, raising chickens and was a tremendous cook and baker. It has been said her chocolate cake is unbeatable! She enjoyed traveling with Frank around the United States visiting relatives and friends. She especially enjoyed the annual trips to Las Vegas, and the fishing trips to Minnesota. Vivian loved her family and supported her children and grandchildren in all of their activities.

[HANNON, RUSSELL EUGENE "GENE"]

Bedford Times-Press, Thursday, June 28, 1984

Services held for Gene Hannon

Gene Hannon devoted thirty years to the Bedford Community Schools. In the fall of 1954 he arrived as a new teacher in the local school system and he stayed. This is remarkable since many teachers tend to change schools, whether by their choice, alone, or a combination of their choice and an administrative decision. Over the years he served in many professional capacities in the school, as a coach of a number of sports and finally as Athletic Director, but his influence extended over a much greater area.

Gene Hannon died at his home last Friday, succumbing to cancer.

As Bedford's Mayor Jim Lucas stated, "Gene Hannon was a father, scholar, educator, organizer, worker, leader and advisor of so many aspects of life for our community. He will be sadly and greatly missed."

Members of the business community, fellow teachers who moved from Bedford, friends, and family, over 600 of them, gathered in the Bedford High School gymnasium on a warm sunny morning last Monday to pay their last respects to Hannon.

His interest in education is apparent as the family suggests that memorials be sent to the Bedford Community Schools.

Russell Eugene Hannon, son of Michael Cornelius Hannon and Florence Agnes Mix Hannon, was born near Maloy, Iowa, April 20, 1925, and died June 22, 1984, at home at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He grew to maturity on a farm near Maloy, Iowa, where he attended the public school and was baptized and-confirmed in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Missouri, and was a veteran of World War II.

On July 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Barbara Christine Fox, Mound City, Missouri, and they lived in Bedford all of their married life.
