DEATH GOMES  UNEXPECTEDLY

Alfred Stretch, An Old Settler of Taylor County, Dies Suddenly.

HEART DISEASE IS THE CAUSE

Body Arrives Here This Morning -—

Funeral at M. E. Church at 11 A. M. Today

Alfred Stretch, one of the oldest and best-known citizens of Taylor County, died suddenly Friday night at the home of his wife's sister in Muscatine County, Iowa where he was visiting.

Death came suddenly and without warning. At bedtime when he retired Mr. Stretch was in his usual health. Four hours later he was sleeping the sleep that knows no waking.

More than a month ago Mr. Stretch left for an extended visit with relatives and friends in the central part of the state. He spent the 4th with relatives at Ottumwa, going soon after to Muscatine County for a visit at the home of his wife's sister, Mrs. John Hankins. His sister, Mrs. B. Livingston, of Gay Township, joined him there, and later Mr. Livingston also came, and together they were enjoying a happy reunion and outing in the neighborhood of their old home where all had lived for so many years.

On Friday they went fishing. Returning in the evening Mr. Stretch complained of pain in his side. Later this pain subsided, and when he retired [rest of articles unreadable].

Alfred Stretch Dead

Saturday morning Mrs. Geo. Fluharty received a telegram announcing the death of her father, Mr. Alfred Stretch.

Some time in the latter part of June Mr. Stretch went to the eastern part of Iowa for a visit among relatives there. His sister, Mrs. R. Livingston, and husband of Gay township, accompanied him and together they have visited at Ottumwa and other places in that part of Iowa going finally to the home of his wife's sister in Muscatine county. His visit there near his early home seems to have been an especially happy one and he wrote to his daughter here of the good time he was having.

He went fishing with a party of relatives and friends on Friday and seemed as well as usual until evening when he was troubled with neuralgic pains about his heart.

All that could be done to ease the pain was tried and finally it left him and all retired.

Late in the night they heard him moaning and went to him but he was unconscious and died in few minutes.

His son Orley, of Peoria and daughter Mrs. Geo. Fluharty were telegraphed for and both went to the home where the body of their father lay.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Brenton, of Conesville, were held and many friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects to the dead, bringing with them flowers from the gardens he had visited and enjoyed so much.

The body was brought to Bedford for burial. It reached here Tuesday on the early morning train and was met by members of the G. A. R. and W. R. C. who accompanied it to the church. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thompson and Rev. Jones, using for the text Ecclesiastes 12:5-6. The body was interred in Fairview cemetery
