Myrtle Daniels, 90 Final Rites Held January 5

Funeral services for Mrs. Levi (Myrtle) Daniels, 90, long time Bedford resident, were held January 5 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating. Mrs. Daniels died January 1, 1975 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Mo.

Myrtle Alice Huey, daughter of Cyrus and Elizabeth Ann Dunkelberger Huey, was born near Hopkins, Missouri, March 8, 1884. She grew to maturity in the Hopkins and Pickering area where she was active in her school, church and community affairs.

On October 2, 1901, she was united in marriage to Levi [Riley] Daniels at the home of the bride's parents with Rev. N. J. Moats officiating. They lived on a farm near Pickering and a few years on a farm near Sheridan before moving to the Valley neighborhood in Polk Township, Iowa, where they lived until she moved to Bedford where she has since continued to reside.

Born to them were two children: Francis E. Daniels and Chloe Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Levi, who died January 19,1955; four sisters: Emma, who died in infancy, Lula Wallace, Ethel Weingarth and Ruth Huey; one brother, Charles Huey; and two great grandsons.

Left to cherish her memory are: Francis E. Daniels and his wife, Hazel, of Bedford and Chloe and her husband, Cleo Stewart, of Bedford; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter; one brother, Henry Huey, of California and three sisters; Chloe H. Wisdom of Long Beach, Calif., Alta Manes of Oakfield, N.Y., and Mary Hall of Hopkins, Mo.; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She and her husband were baptized and became members of the Hazel Dell Baptist Church.

She was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, friend and neighbor and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Obituary

Edward David Irvin, son of James M. and Prissie [Priscilla] Anne Irvin, was born at Oxford, Mo., March 24, 1864 and departed this life May 19, 1920, aged 56 years, 1 month and 25 day [s].

He leaves to mourn his untimely death the following sister and brothers: Dr. John B. [aily] Irvin, of Kaw, Oklahoma; Mrs. Martha Parker, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Oscar J. Irvin, of Athelstan, Iowa; William P. Irvin, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Egbert E. [ugene] E. [lias] Irvin, of Dallas Texas. Also a host of other relatives and friends. His father and mother preceded him to the great beyond some years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Athelstan Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The sermon was preached by W. M. Hunt from text in Hebrews, 8th chapter and 47th verse. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Interment was made in the Athelstan cemetery.

Obituary - E. E. E. Irvin

Egbert Eugene Elias Irvin was born at Athelstan, Iowa, April 8, 1873, and died May 13, 1946 at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 6 days. He was the youngest son of James and Prissy [Priscilla] Ann [Cook] Irvin.

He was married to Addie Belle Smith, Nov 1, 1896. She preceded him in death Nov 28, 1942. To them were born eight children: Edna Edith, who died at the age of 6 years; Frank Irvin of Sheridan, Mrs. Bert Brumfield, Bedford, Robert Irvin of Blockton, Mrs. Herman Smith, Mrs. Omer Maniss, Guy Irvin and Elmer Irvin, all of Athelstan.

He is survived by his sons and daughters, 12 grandchildren, two nephews, Leon Irvin of Louisiana and John Parker of Colorado. He spent all of his life at Athelstan with the exception of two years in Texas. The funeral services were held at the Community church at Athelstan, Wednesday afternoon, May 15, conducted by Rev Ward Campbell of Corning. Burial was in the Athelstan cemetery.

Mrs. Frank Irvin Rites July 27

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank (Esther Eliza) Irvin, 69, of Athelstan, held July 27 at the Athelstan Community Church, were conducted by Rev. Ward Campbell. Mrs. Irvin died July 23 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Interment was at Athelstan Cemetery.

Esther Eliza Adams, daughter of Major and Clara Adams, was born July 2, 1899 in Walker, Iowa.

On February 27, 1924 she was united in marriage to Harold Franklin Irvin. To this union were born three children: Harold Eugene Irvin of Omaha, Nebr.; Edna Mae Streitenberger of Bedford; and Betty Lou Jackson of Carter Lake, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters and two grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; three children; a brother, Ray, of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; one daughter-in-law; two sons-in-law, Wilbur Jackson of Carter Lake, Iowa and Boyd Streitenberger of Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mae Adams of Muscatine and Mrs. W. R. Adams, Springfield, Iowa; a host of nieces, nephews and close relatives.

Mrs. Irvin had been ill for the last two and one-half years. She was a good Christian lady and had many friends in the Bedford, Blockton and Athelstan communities.

Guy Irvin Died At Sioux City

Funeral services for Guy [Egbert] Irvin of Athelstan will be held at the Community church in Athelstan Friday afternoon, June 26 at two o'clock. Rev, Anthony Blankers of the Bedford Methodist church will officiate.

Mr. Irvin was engaged in construction work in South Dakota, when he became ill and was taken to Veterans hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, where he died Sunday, June 21.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

Guy Irvin Rites Held At Athelstan

Guy Egbert Irvin, son of E. [gbert] E. [ugene Elias] and Winnie Addie Belle [Smith] Irvin, was born at Athelstan, Iowa, in Taylor County, Nov. 25, 1907 and died June 21, 1959 at the ago of 51 years, six months, 26 days at Veterans hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He served three years in Military Service during World War II and married Marcelene Booher on June 10, 1950.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Earl Ray, Mary Lou, Guy Egbert jr., and Jessie Belle; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Smith of Athelstan, Mrs. Anna Brumfield of Bedford, Mrs. Zola Maness of Des Moines; three brothers, Frank Irvin of Omaha, Robert L. Irvin of Bedford, Elmer Irvin of Athelstan. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister.

Funeral services were held at the Athelstan Community church Friday afternoon, June 26. Rev. Anthony Blankers of Bedford officiated. Burial in Athelstan cemetery.

Brother and Sister Die in Omaha

Funeral services for Harold Franklin Irvin, 82, and Zola May Maness, 67, of Omaha, formerly of Athelstan, were held Wed., Sept. 22 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Mr. Irvin died in Clarkson Hospital September 18 and Zola Maness died September 19 in University of Nebraska Hospital. Interment was held at Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Ia.

Harold Franklin Irvin, son of Egbert Eugene Elias Irvin and Winnie Addie Belle Smith, was born at Athelstan, Iowa July 27, 1900.

He grew to maturity in Athelstan where he attended the Baptist Church.

On February 27, 1924 he was united in marriage to Esther Eliza Adams at Bedford, Iowa and they lived in and around Athelstan, Blockton and Sheridan, Missouri.

To this union, three children were born: Harold Eugene, Edna Mae and Betty Lou.

He was engaged in farming for a number of years, then later worked at Mt. Arbour in Shenandoah. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Esther, two brothers, Guy Irvin and Elmer Irvin; two sisters, Edith Irvin, Mable Smith and three grandchildren, Everett and Norma Streitenberger and Harold Irvin Jr.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Harold Eugene Irvin of Omaha, Edna Mae Irvin Streitenberger of Bedford, Betty Lou Irvin Jackson of Carter Lake, Iowa; sister, Anna Black of Bedford; brother, Robert L. Irvin, of Bedford; eight grandchildren: David Irvin, Debbie Irvin, Evelyn Streitenberger, Priscilla England, Sharon Streitenberger, Gary Jackson, Donna, Angie Jackson; four great grandchildren; nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

He was a kind and considerate husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Zola May Irvin Maness, daughter of Egbert Eugene Elias Irvin and Winnie Addie Belle Smith, was born at Athelstan, Iowa, March 6.

She grew to maturity in Athelstan where she attended the Baptist Church.

On May 24, 1939 she was united in marriage to Omar Elbert Maness and they lived in and around the Athelstan and Maloy areas. Zola was a member of the Baptist Church.

To this union one son was born: Wilbur C. Maness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Omar (Bill) Maness, three brothers: Guy Irvin, Elmer Irvin and Frank Irvin; two sisters, Edith Irvin and Mable Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are: one son, Wilber E. Maness; sister, Anna Black; brother, Robert L. Irvin, Bedford; grandchildren Teresa Maness, Tammy Maness, Wilber Maness, Jr., Judy Maness, Debbie Maness; four great grandchildren; nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

She was a kind and considerate wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dr. J. B. Irvin

John Baily Irvin was born at Macomb, Ill., Jan. 15, 1863. He was the eldest son of James [Marion] and Prissy [Priscilla] Ann [Cook] Irvin who moved to Bates County, Mo., in 1866, afterwards to Taylor County, Iowa, where he acquired a common school education. He was married to Carrie M. York, July 3, 1892. To this union one son, Francis Leon, was born. Mr. Irvin entered medical school at St. Joseph, Mo., from which he graduated in 1895, and practiced medicine in Taylor county, Iowa, until Sept. 14, 1901, when he moved to Kay county, Oklahoma, where he followed his profession until Sept. 20, 1918, when he was stricken with paralysis and was an invalid until July 10, 1920, when he passed away at 3:15 o'clock a. m., aged 57 years, 5 months and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and son, Francis Leon Irvin; brothers, W. [illiam] P. Irvin, Minneapolis, Minn.; Oscar Irvin, of Athelstan, Iowa; Bert [Egbert Eugene] Irvin, of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Martha [Caroline] Parker, of Iowa. One brother, Edward Irvin, preceeded him to the great beyond by only one month and twenty days.

The remains were laid to rest at Athelstan, Iowa, beside his mother and brother.

The funeral services were held at the residence at 3:30 p. m., Sunday, by Dr. Robt. L. Selle. A large company of friends attended the services. — Kaw City (Oklahoma) Democrat.

Services were also held at Athelstan on Monday, conducted by Wm. Hunt.

Obituary—Oscar I. Irvin

Oscar I. Irvin was born near Oxford, Missouri, April 16, 1869, and moved with his parents on a little farm north of Athelstan, Iowa, in 1872, where he lived the rest of his life. He was crippled at the age of seven years, and suffered a great deal all his life, and especially at the time of his death. He departed this life at his home January 27, 1926, aged 56 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He was united in marriage to Stella Foreson [Forson], of Gillman City, Mo., Aug. 31, 1910. He leaves his wife, also two brothers, W. [illiam] P. Irvin, whose whereabouts is unknown, and E. [gbert] E. [ugene] Irvin of Athelstan, Iowa. Besides these he leaves six nephews, Leon Irvin in Oklahoma, John Parker, whereabouts unknown, Frank, Guy, Robert and Elmer Irvin, of Athelstan, Iowa; three nieces, Misses Mabel Smith, Misses Annie and Zola Irvin of Athelstan; and one great nephew, Georgie Squires, besides a host of friends.

He was converted and baptized under the preaching of Charlie Dobson a few years ago, but never united with any local congregation.

The funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church in Athelstan, January 28, 1926, by Challie E. Graham, and interment made in the Athelstan cemetery. Very appropriate music was rendered by the male quartette, composed of H. O. Mumma, Marion, William and Calvin Jenkins. The pallbearers were Warren Campbell, Fred Osman, Bert Brumfield, and Charlie Turner, and Joe Rusco. The friends showed their respect by attending in goodly numbers.

May the Lord, who knoweth all our hearts and needs, richly bless and comfort all the bereaved and lead them to that bright home above where sorrows never come.

Mrs. Priscilla Irvin died at her home near Athelstan Wednesday morning. She had been sick for some time. She was an old resident of that vicinity and was quite advanced in years. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Athelstan Thursday and interment made in the Athelstan cemetery.

Scott Lee attended the funeral of his relative, Mrs. Irvin, at Athelstan Thursday.

Obituary - Mrs. Bert Irvin

Winnie Addie Belle Smith, daughter of John and Addie Smith, was born August 18, 1875 and died November 28, 1942 at the University Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 10 days.

She spent her early life in Ringgold County, Iowa. When she was quite young her father went west and never returned. Later her mother married Scott Lee and they lived several years in Parnell, Mo., where she attended high school.

She united with the Methodist church at Parnell, Mo., in early girlhood, later transferring her membership to the Baptist church in Athelstan.

She was married to Egbert Elias Eugene Irvin [Egbert Eugene Elias] on November 1, 1896 at Athelstan, where they spent most of their married life. To them were born eight children.

Mrs. Irvin is survived by her husband and seven children: Harold Franklin Irvin of Sheridan, Vera Mable Smith of Athelstan, Annie Fern Brumfield of Sheridan, Pvt. Guy Egbert Irvin who is somewhere in England, Robert Loren Irvin of Blockton, Pvt. Elmer Orin Irvin of Camp Crowder, Mo., Zola May Maness of Athelstan. She also leaves ten grandchildren and one half-sister, Bertha White.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Edna Irvin, who died at the age of 6 years, and a half-sister, Jennie O'Neil.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 1 at Athelstan Community Church, Rev. E. B. Stewart, Methodist pastor at Blockton, in charge. Burial was in the Athelstan cemetery.

Ronald, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jackson of west of town, died at birth at Mount Ayr hospital Tuesday. Graveside services were held at Athelstan cemetery Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ward Campbell of Mt. Ayr. One brother, Dewaine, survives. Mrs. Jackson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mercer of Maloy.
