Obituary—Charles
B. Beall
Charles
B. Beall, eldest son of Mr.
and Mrs. F. M. Beall, was born
near Iowa City, Iowa, October 18th, 1867, and passed from earth April 3, 1921.
When about five years of age he came with his parents to Bedford, and here he
grew to manhood having received his education in the Bedford schools.
As
a young man he entered his father's store in this city and being especially
proficient in clerical work he later accepted a position as bookkeeper for
Chase & Son at St. Joseph. Later he was with the wholesale firm of R.
Douglass and Co., working in the same capacity, but left that position for a
better one as traveling salesman with headquarters at Creston.
He
was united in marriage to Miss Cora M. [ay] Flick, June 3rd, 1895 and three children came to bless
their home. They were Maude, Beatrice and Frank, the latter having died at the age of eighteen
months.
Soon
after his marriage, Mr. Beall located in Bedford and with the exception of a few years spent in Colorado, had
been a continuous resident of this city. At first he was employed in his
father's store but about ten years ago he engaged in the grocery business for
himself and continued as one of our successful and prominent business men until
his broken health compelled his retirement.
For
over three years brother Beall had
been a constant sufferer but with a cheerfulness and patience that is seldom
witnessed he passed through dreary months without a complaint surrounded by a
loving family and a host of friends who did all within their power to lesson
the pain and cheer the slowly passing hours.
He
joined the Methodist church about six years ago and was also a member of the
Modern Woodmen and [Masonic fraternities].
Besides
the wife and two daughters of the immediate family he is survived by his father
and mother who reside in Omaha and three brothers, Ernest L. [ovell] and Frank O. [rville] of Omaha and Henry M. [ilton] of Cleveland, Ohio. A large number of relatives, friends and
neighbors who knew and loved Charlie Beall for his true manhood and kindly spirit extend to the sorrowing
family their sincere sympathy in this hour of trial.
Funeral
services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 p. m conducted by Rev.
M. A. Gable of the Methodist church and interment in the Bedford cemetery.

"Asleep in Jesus”
Frank,
Flick Beall was born in Gravity,
Ia., Jan. 22, 1906, and fell asleep in Jesus February 10, 1907, at 12 o'clock,
noon, aged one year, nine months and eighteen days. About three weeks ago this
charming sweet-faced little boy took sick. Everything that medical skill and
kind hands and hearts could do was done to save the precious little life, but
he continued to grow weaker until last Sunday noon the angels came and took him
and bore him up to heaven.
A
sorely bereft father and mother, two little sisters, many friends, and
relatives weep because this precious flower has faded so soon. We cannot help
but believe that this beautiful bud has opened on earth to bloom in heaven
forever. Mr. and Mrs. Beall have the heartfelt sympathy of all in this hour of bereavement.
Little children, little children,
Who love their Redeemer,
Are the jewels, precious jewels,
His loved and his own.
The
foregoing are the words of comfort as spoken, in part, by Rev. Freedline at the
funeral service of Frank Beall,
son of Mr. and Mrs. C. [harles] B. Beall, formerly of Bedford, on Tuesday forenoon. The remains were brought
here and laid to rest in the Bedford cemetery.
When
this little one was first taken sick some three weeks ago, no one dreamed of
the sad termination it would have. It soon developed into congestion of the
brain and he sank rapidly. As he was tenderly watched by aching hearted
relatives and kind, true friends, the approach of the angel of death was noted
and its arrival was only delayed by the strong vitality of the little one. Only
those who have lost children can fully realize the awful desolation that is
felt by the loving parents and words of sympathy, while appreciated, can never
heal the wound—that God alone can do. “He giveth and He taketh away.” The
many Bedford friends of the bereaved couple join with the friends in Gravity,
in offering their heartfelt sympathy.
