Funeral
services for John Gilbert Cox,
83, of Bedford, were held October 8 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford

John
Gilbert Cox, son of Nancy
Ellen [Zimmer] and James Logan Cox,
was born September 28, 1886.
He
was the oldest of a family of 12 children three of whom survive, Orville [James] of Longmont, Colorado, Milton [Otis] of Chinook,
Montana, and Merle [Alta] Bledsoe of Sacramento, California.
On
December 19, 1917 he was united in marriage Lola K. [arene] Fry. To this union seven children were born. Those
surviving are [John] Ralph of New Market, Gordon [Harold] of New Market, [Carl] Wayne of Bedford and James
Howard of Madrid, Iowa and Edna
Ruth Pruitt of Blaine, Minn.;
also 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His
wife Lola preceded him in
death February 20, 1958; also two children, Wallis Edwin at the age of four months in 1936 and Mildred at the age of 31 years in 1949.
He
was a member of the Gravity Christian Church.
Except
for two years when he lived in Saskatchewan, Canada he spent his life in Taylor
County, living in Mason Township since 1937 [?].

Last
rites for Mrs. John G. [ilbert] Cox were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Colvin Caughey
of the Baptist church officiating. Burial in Gravity cemetery.
Lola
Karene Fry, daughter of [Judith] Adella [Ferguson] and Charles Fry, was born at New Sharon, Iowa, November 25, 1893
and died at her home west of Bedford, February 20 at the age of 64 years, two
months, 25 days. She was reared in the Hopkins community and was a practical
nurse before her marriage.
On
Dec. 19, 1917 she was married to John G. [ilbert] Cox of Gravity and they spent all of their married
life in the Bedford-Gravity community with the exception of two years at
Semans, Saskatchewan, Canada.
To
them were born seven children, two of whom preceded her in death, Willis
Edwin at the age of four months,
and Mildred in 1949 at the age
of 31 years.
She
is survived by her husband, John G. [ilbert] Cox of Bedford; four sons, [John] Ralph Cox of New Market, [Carl] Wayne Cox of Bedford, [James] Howard Cox of Madrid, Gordon [Harold] Cox of New Market; and one daughter, Edna Ruth, Mrs. Jerry Pruitt of Creston. There is also one brother, Lester
Fry of Lincoln, Nebr.; and 13
grandchildren.
She
became a member of the Christian church when young.

Milton Cox, 79 Dies in Montana
Funeral
services were conducted February 20 for Milton [Otis] Cox, 79, of Chinook, Montana, native of Taylor
County, in Edwards Funeral Chapel in Chinook. Mr. Cox died there February 16, 1980. Interment was at the
Kuper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook.
Mr.
Cox was an uncle of Wayne Cox, and Gordon, Bedford and Ralph Cox of New Market.
Milton was born February 7, 1901 at Gravity, Iowa, the
son of James [Logan] and Nancy [Ellen Zimmer] Cox. He went to Chinook in 1924 and farmed and raised
cattle in Pleasant View Community with his brother, Roy for a few years. He married Anna Dowen in August of 1925. They later lived in the north
Chinook area until Milton's retirement in 1964 when they moved to the valley
where Milton enjoyed growing a
large garden. He also enjoyed many hours of fishing.
His
wife, Anna, survives along
with two daughters Elinora O'Leary of Havre, Mont., and Betty Frey of Albany, Ore. There are eight grandchildren and four great grandsons.

Nancy E. Cox, 76, Dies In Colorado
Mrs.
Nancy E. [llen Zimmer] Cox, 76, a
former resident of Gravity, died at her home in Holyoke, Colo., Tuesday, Jan.
14. The body is being returned to Gravity and the funeral services will be held
at the Christian church there Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in the
cemetery at Ladoga.
Mrs.
Cox is survived by six sons and
two daughters. They are Mrs. [Mathew] Lyle Young [Pearl Alma] and John G. [ilbert] Cox of Bedford; Orville Cox of
Sterling, Colo.; Wilbur [George] Cox of Fleming, Colo.; Mrs. Merle [Alta] Bledsoe of Holyoke, Colo.; Roy Cox, Alvin [Zimmer] Cox and Milton [Otis] Cox of Chinook, Mont. There are also 24 grandchildren
and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Cox died 15 years ago.

Orville J. Cox, 82 Last Rites Held In Colorado
Funeral
services for Orville J. [ames] Cox,
formerly of Longmont, Colo., were held March 5 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in
Longmont officiated by Rev. Howard West. Mr. Cox died March 1 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Interment was at
Foothills Garden of Memory in Longmont.
Mr.
Cox, 82, had lived at 1510 Third
Ave., before moving to Flagstaff a year and a half ago. He was born September
23, 1891, in Gravity, Iowa, graduated from high school in Gravity, married his
first wife, Jane Valentine,
January 29, 1914 in Gravity and lived there until 1920.
They
went to Colorado in 1920 where Mr. Cox ranched, and raised livestock near Fleming. Following his retirement
the Coxes moved to Longmont in
1946.
His
first wife died March 26, 1960. Mr. Cox married Viola J. Cross of Longmont in 1962.
He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Longmont.
He
is survived by a brother, Milton [Otis] Cox, of Chinook, Mont., and a sister, Mrs. Merle
[Alta] Bledsoe, of Flagstaff as
well as many nieces and nephews.

George Cox, 66, Died In West
Wilbur
George Cox, 66, of Estes Park,
Colo., a former resident of Gravity, died Thursday, April 14 in a Cheyenne,
Wyo., hospital after an illness of several months.
Funeral
services were held Monday in Sterling, Colo., and burial was in Sunset Memorial
Gardens there.
Mr.
Cox resided in Fleming, Colo., 20
years until moving to Fort Collins, Colo., in 1941. Six years ago he moved to
Estes Park, Colo. He was a carpenter and painter by trade.
He
was born Sept. 17, 1893 at Gravity and was married in 1916 at Bedford to Audrey
Combs. They moved to Colorado in
1921.
Mr.
Cox was a member of the Community
church at Fleming and of the Sterling (Colo.) Elks lodge.
Survivors
include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Butler of Sterling and Mrs. Jeanne Dailey of Fleming; two sons, Dean W. [ilbur] Cox of Fort Meyers, Florida and Lt. Willis D.

Funeral for Baby
Yesterday
Terry
Lyle, infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lyle Posten, born Aug. 21st
at the home of his parents a short distance south of Corning, passed away
Tuesday in a hospital in Omaha where he had been taken that day for medical
treatment. Death was due to internal hemorrhage. Brief funeral services were
held at the home yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, and the body was brot to
the cemetery here for burial. Mrs. Posten was formerly Miss Helen Abarr and a teacher of music in the Gravity schools a few years ago. Her
home before her marriage was in Clearfield.

Harry
W. [illiam] Puffer died at the
Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Sunday, and the funeral services were held in
Des Moines Tuesday, after which the body was brought here for burial.
Deceased
was a son-in-law of Mr and Mrs Fred Goudie, and had visited here with his wife last week at the Goudie home. He has been in poor health for some time.

William Puffer was born in Des
Moines January 25, 1904 and passed away October 19th at the Iowa Methodist
hospital in Des Moines.
He
was married to Elsie Goudie March
9th, 1938 at the University Church of Christ in Des Moines.
He
is survived by his wife, Elsie,
and his mother, Mrs Ida Ryle,
also of Des Moines and a host of friends.
Harry was a pressman for the Register and Tribune for 16 years.
He
was a member of the Christian church since childhood, also a member of the
Moose Lodge.
Funeral
services were held at the Lilly Funeral home in Des Moines, October 21st with
interment in Washington cemetery at Gravity.

Geo.
Shum was born September 11, 1855
and died at his home in Gravity, January 12, 1941 at the age of 85 years, 4
mos. and 1 day after being confined to his home for several months.
He
was united in marriage to Ada M. [eritta] Bickford February 3rd 1878. To this union were
born nine children. Bert, A!onza and Paul [Lester] preceded their parents in death. His wife passed
away in 1922. On May 21, 1923 he was united in marriage to Della Shipley.
Bro.
Shum spent the most of his life
in Taylor County living on a farm for a number of years and returning to
Gravity in the year 1916.
In
the year 1893 Bro. Shum was
asked to attend revival services held by the Free Methodist people at the
Glasgow schoolhouse, which he did and was converted uniting with the church
that same year and remained a faithful member until his death.
Left
to mourn his passing are his wife and children; Claude [Victor] of Diagonal; Pete [Peter
Hugh] of Bedford; Emma [Lena]
of New Marked; John [Clarence] of Hood River, Oregon; Frank [George Francis] of Wessington Springs, South Dakota and [Lola] Mae of Bingen, Washington; 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; one
brother, Jim, of Clarinda and
his many friends.
The
funeral service was held in the Free Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon at
two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Chas. Dickey of Shambaugh, an old friend of
the deceased, He was assisted by the Rev. Biggerstaff, pastor of the church
here; and the Rev. O. B. Brown pastor of the church at Shambaugh.
The
pallbearers were six of the Johnson boys, all nephews of the deceased, Leroy,
Walton, Raymond, Leslie, Jesse and Wesley. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

91 years and five months old, died Sunday at her home in Shenandoah, following
a stroke of paralysis suffered a few days ago. The funeral service was held
Wednesday afternoon at Shenandoah and burial was in the cemetery there.
She
is the mother of [John] Beecher
Smith of this place, who has been
with her much of the time during her last illness.

Lyle Young, son of Tom and
Jennie [Ray] Young, was born Oct.
17, 1898 at Gravity, and passed away Sunday, May 15, 1960 in Huntington Park,
Calif. Mr. Young formerly
lived in Gravity and Bedford. He moved to California in 1940.
His
survivors include two sons, Leo Young of Bellflower, LaVern Young of Cudahy; two daughters, Lois Coates of Norwalk, LaVonne Young of Huntington Park; four grandchildren; a
brother, Mark Young of Gravity
and a sister, Mrs. Helen Goodhue of Carlisle.
Burial
was in Park Lawn cemetery in California.

set of twins of the late Mr. and Mrs. James [Logan] Cox. Burial will be in California Thursday.
