pioneer parents, was born in Frazeysburg, Muskingum County, Ohio, on the first
day of January, 1844 and lived to attain the ripe age of 82 years, 11 months
and 18 days, his span of life drawing to a close on December 19, 1926 at 2:30
A. M.
Funeral
serviced were conducted at the late home of the deceased by the Rev. Paul G.
Luce, and interment was given in the family lot in Fairview cemetery, Bedford,
on December 21st, 1926.
The
deceased was one of seven own brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in
death and in addition to these there were three half-sisters and two
half-brothers, four of whom survive him.
In
common with many others of his generation, he entered the military service of
his country while still quite young, giving three years of his life to her
defense during the Civil conflict.
In
the year 1867 Mr. Thompson was
united in marriage to Nancy Ella [Ellen] Ogle and feeling the responsibility thus assumed, his
eyes and feet turned westward in search of fortune. This quest brought him to
Taylor County where in 1871 he became a citizen, settling on the farm where he
spent more than half a century and whereon, in his purpose to establish a home,
he built his first dwelling, hauling the lumber from Corning the nearest
railroad point, at that time.
To
this pioneer and his good wife the following children were born: Chas. of Wayne, Nebr.; Frank of St. Joseph; Kurtis [Curtis], living in Bloomfield, Nebr.; Ernie who resides in Colorado; and who because of
illness was unable to be present; James who makes his home in Canada; Mrs. Hannah Mohler of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Jessie Clark of Gravity; and the three following, who make
their homes in Bedford: Mrs. Ella Armstrong, Mrs. Nora Bailey [Bailie] and John Thompson.
These sons and daughters
with the twenty-three grandchildren remain to mourn the loss of this one who
spent nearly fifty-six years of his life in Taylor County.

Obituary
Nancy
Ellen Ogle, daughter of James
and Nancy Ogle, was the youngest
of 11 children and was born in Ohio, June 19, 1847. She was married to A.
[ndrew] J.[ackson] Thompson,
Oct., 1867, at Zanesville, Ohio. Soon after their marriage they came to Taylor
County, settling on the farm which since then has been their home.
To
this union 11 children were born and are still living: Charles of Wayne, Neb:; Ella Armstrong, John T. and
Nora of Bedford, Ia.; Frank of St. Joseph, Mo.; Curt of Bloomfield, Neb.; Earnie [Ernie] of Ft. Collins, Colo.; James T. of Saskatchewan, Canada; Jessie Clarke [Clark] of Gravity, Ia.; and Hannah Mohler of Dallas Texas.
Mrs.
Thompson, the youngest of 11
brothers and sisters was the last to depart for the life beyond. She had been
blessed with good health until her final illness, which lasted about 9 weeks.
During that time loving children ministered to her needs. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Frank Thompson, a trained nurse,
attended her constantly and anticipated every want. Eight children, two
daughters-in-law, the husband and three grandchildren were with her when the
transition came. Just as the sun was setting, Oct. 19, the beautiful evening
glow that tinged the western sky filled the room with its restful colors she
quietly passed on to the country where there is no need of the sun.
Mrs.
Thompson was a quiet, unassuming
person, greatly liked by her many friends, a hard working wife and mother. She
was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Relief Corps and the Legion Auxiliary.
For about 25 years she had been a member of the Presbyterian Church, which she
attended as opportunity permitted. She was especially interested in the Loyal
Women's Bible Class, which was in attendance at the funeral service. She
maintained an active interest in the community interests and the larger affairs
as well, watching carefully the coming of the papers.
The
going of such a person is always accompanied by the sincere regret of many friends.
Funeral services were
held at the home at 3:30, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lumbar of the
Presbyterian Church.
