Death of Mrs. N. D. Bell

George Wallace received a message Tuesday conveying the sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. N. [elson] D. [aniel] Bell [Beall], which occurred at her home in Moorhead, Iowa, Monday evening.

The deceased was formerly Miss [Mary] Emily Cadle, and most of her girlhood days were spent in Taylor County. After she grew to womanhood she was married to N. [elson] D. [aniel] Bell [Beall], who is a brother of Mrs. G. [eorge] W. [ashington] Wallace [Sarah Beall], and about 25 years ago they moved to Moorhead.

The deceased is survived by her husband and two children, both grown to maturity. One child [Cora] died before they left here and is buried at Lexington cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace left for Moorhead Tuesday evening and arrived in time for the funeral which was held at 2 p. m. Wednesday.

Donald Finch passed away in a Des Moines hospital Monday night, following a serious operation. Mrs. Finch will be remembered as the former Miss Eva Huss.  Several relatives from this community attended funeral services for Mr. Finch in Des Moines Wednesday.

Obituary

Albert D. Foreman died at his home in Hume, Mo., Sunday, September 26, and the remains were brought here Tuesday, the funeral being held at the home of his sister, Mrs. A. L. Cobb. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the home, by Elder Wm. Cobb.

The deceased was born September 21, 1849, in Shelby county, Indiana, and was the son of Solomon and Rachael Foreman, being one of six children, all deceased save two. Early in life he united with the Church of Christ in Illinois. His parents moved from Indiana to this county in 1854 where he has resided most of the time since.

He was married Feb. 29, 1872, to Miss Margaret Catherine Taylor, of this county and to this union there were born three daughters, Maola [Mayola], Susan Ethel and Bertha Prunelia [Permelia], the latter dying in Parnell, Mo., about 17 years ago.

A few years ago the deceased moved to Bates County, Mo., where on Saturday, on the streets of Hume, he was stricken with apoplexy from which he died the following day, at 4:30 p. m.

He leaves a wife, two daughters, one brother and one sister, besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

DIES OF APOPLEXY

Albert D. Foreman Stricken on the Streets of Hume, Mo.

Albert D. Foreman, who lived many years in Taylor county, was stricken with apoplexy on the street of Hume, Mo., Saturday, and died the next day at 4:30 o'clock p. m. at the age of 60 years.

Mr. Foreman was born in Shelby County, Indiana, September 2, 1849. He was the son of Solomon and Rachel [Golding] Foreman and one of six children, all deceased except two. His parents moved from Indiana to this county about the year 1854, and he resided here most of the time since. A few years ago he moved to Bates County, Missouri, where his death occurred.

February 29, 1872, he was married to Miss [Margaret] Catherine Taylor of this county. They were the parents of three daughters, Maola [Mayola], Bertha Permelia and Susan Ethel. Bertha died 17 years ago. Mrs. Foreman and the two daughters survive and they express thanks for the kindnesses of friends who have extended sympathy and aid in this bereavement.

Mr. Foreman was a member of the Church of Christ, which he joined in about 1886.

Mrs. Albert Foreman

Margaret C. [atherine] Taylor was born April 4, 1854, in Cedar County, Iowa, and was married Feb. 29th, 1870 [Feb. 28, 1872], to Albert Foreman. To this union were born three daughters, two having preceded the mother in death, also her husband, who passed away 16 years ago. She was converted at the age of 18 and united with the Christian Church where she always remained a faithful, obedient member. Her last illness and death was not a surprise as she had been in failing health for the last four or five years. She bore her suffering with much patience, and was conscious until the last. She passed away Sunday morning, June 2nd, 1929, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. [Susan] Ethel Mullies of Hume, Mo.  She leaves to mourn her demise one daughter, Mrs. [Susan] Ethel Mullies of Hume, Mo. Two brothers and three sisters, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held in the Christian Church of Bedford at 2:00 p. m., Tuesday, June 4, 1929, conducted by Rev. J. C. Harris, the pastor. Interment was made in the Bedford cemetery.

Mrs. Foreman was a sister of Mrs. Sid Bradley of this city.

Phillip Gaule, 72 Rites Monday

Funeral services for Phillip Gaule, 72, of Bedford were held Mon., July 20, at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Mr. Gaule died July 17, 1970 at his home in Bedford. Interment was at Conway Cemetery, Conway.

Phillip Gaule, son of William and Mary Jane McCort Gaule, was born March 15, 1898.

Mr. Gaule lived most of his life in Bedford and other parts of Taylor County, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, eight brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by one brother, Richard Gaule, of Diagonal; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

MISS CORA KEMPER

Miss Cora Kemper, a resident of Bedford for many years, died at her home in west Bedford Saturday, March 16 after a lingering illness.

The funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. Max Buck. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.

Cora Alice Kemper, daughter of W. [illiam] R. and [Sarah] J. [ane] V.[ermillion] Kemper, was born at Centerville, Iowa Oct. 23, 1869, being aged 70 years, 4 months and 22 days at the time of her death.

She came to Taylor County with her parents in the spring of 1870. They first lived on a farm east of Bedford, then came to Bedford where she lived the remainder of her life with the exception of a short time in Centerville and Blanchard.

Her mother died August 15, 1925 and her father Feb. 19, 1927. A sister, Miss Grace [Caroline] Kemper and a brother, E. [dgar] V. [ermillion] Kemper also preceded her in death. She leaves a sister-in-law, Mrs. E. [dgar] V. [ermillion] Kemper of Lincoln, Nebr., three nieces and three nephews, two grand nieces and four grand nephews; also several cousins.

She graduated from the Bedford high school in 1888, taught school a short time and taught music a number of years.

She united with the Church of Christ in 1884 during the ministry of J. P. Lucas and had been active in church work until her health failed three years ago. She had been a member of the Woman's Missionary Society since 1892, was superintendent of the Sunday school 17 years and was a Sunday school teacher for years.

Final Rites Held September 12 For Paul Morris, 79

Funeral services for Paul Morris, 79, of Glenwood, Iowa, held September 12 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were conducted by Rev. Marcia Smith. Mr. Morris died September 9, 1981 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa.

Paul Howard Morris, son of Scott and Dorothy Woodworth Morris, was, born at Yorktown, Iowa, August 4, 1902.

He lived in Gravity, Iowa and grew to maturity in Gravity where he attended the public school and Christian Church. In June of 1922 he was united in marriage to Eula Morgan at Gravity and they lived at Bedford and Gravity.

To this union two children were born: Norman Morris, who died in 1965, and Clara Lou Hardin.

In 1953, Eula died in Gravity, Iowa.

In April 1963, Paul was united in marriage to Pauline Dowell and they resided in Glenwood, Iowa.

He was engaged in the grocery business at Posten and son at Gravity, Iowa. From 1963-1971, he was employed at the Glenwood State Hospital School.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Gravity, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Eula and Pauline, son, Norman, and three brothers.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Clara Lou Hardin of Bedford and granddaughter, Teresa Krause of Fort Collins, Colorado.

He was a sweet gentle and kind man whose love touched all. A love that flowed out of him and was returned to him many times over. We thank God for the life of this beautiful son of God.

Pauline Morris Rites Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Paul (Pauline) Morris, 68, of Glenwood, Ia., were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home Tuesday, July 21 with Carl Cummings officiating. Mrs. Morris died at Saint Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebr., following a short illness July 17, 1970. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Pauline Ray Morris, daughter of Don W. and Jessie M. [ay Masters] Ray, was born May 28, 1902 at Gravity, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood and spent [a] major part of her life.

On May 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Harold V. [ernelle] Dowell, who preceded her in death, December 8, 1953. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

On April 28, 1963 she was united in marriage to Paul H. [oward] Morris of Gravity and they moved to Glenwood, Iowa, to make their home and where they have since resided.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Gravity and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Left to cherish memories are her husband, Paul of Glenwood; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Schirmer, of Sun City, Ariz.; an aunt, Gertrude Masters of Omaha, Nebr.; a step-daughter, Mrs. John F. Hardin; and many friends who will greatly miss her.

Mrs. Jessie Ray, 81, of Gravity died at Clarkson hospital In Omaha Sunday, January 17. Funeral services are being held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, at the Methodist church in Gravity with Rev. Frank Greenwood officiating. Burial in Gravity cemetery.

Mrs Ray is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Schirmer of Chicago, Mrs. Pauline Dowell of Gravity; and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Masters of Omaha. Mr. Ray died several years ago.

Mrs. Jessie Ray Rites At Gravity

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Ray of Gravity, who died at Clarkson hospital in Omaha, January 17, were held at the Methodist church in Gravity Thursday afternoon, January 21. Rev. Frank L. Greenwood officiated. Burial in Washington cemetery at Gravity.

Jessie May Masters, daughter of John B. and Mary J. [Semple] Masters, was born July 3, 1878 In Taylor county and passed away at the age of 81 years, six months, 14 days.

On March 1, 1899 she was united in marriage to Don W. Ray, who preceded her in death on July 20, 1935. To this union two daughters were born.

Mrs. Ray resided in and near Gravity most of her life. She was a member of the Gravity Methodist Church since the age of 18.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Dowell of Gravity, Mrs. Dorothy Schirmer of Chicago; one sister, Miss Gertrude Masters of Omaha; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Susan Ray, a resident of Gravity for many years, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Irwin in Bedford Sunday afternoon, September 24. The funeral services were held at Gravity Wednesday afternoon.

Obituary

Susan L. Ray, daughter of Reuben P. and Mary [Holmes] Roberts was born in Des Moines County, Iowa, August 23, 1852, and departed this life September 24th 1944 at Bedford, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 1 day.

In 1865 with her family she moved to Taylor County where she spent the greater part of her life. She was the youngest of six children.

On December 10, 1867 she was united in marriage to Wesley W. [illiam] Ray. To this union three children were born, Carey A, Mary Alice, and Don W. all of whom preceded her in death. Her husband passed away in the year 1886.

At an early age she united with the Christian church and was an active member as long as her health permitted. In spite of her advanced age she was very active and remained in her own home until about a year ago.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her daughter in-law, Mrs Jessie Ray, of Chicago, two grand daughters Mrs Harold Dowell of Gravity and Mrs G. A. Schirmer of Chicago, Ill., several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church here at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of last week, conducted by the Rev. C. E. Eppard of Clarinda and interment was in the Gravity cemetery.

The music was by a mixed quartet consisting of Earl King, Don Foreman, Mrs Oliver Posten and Mrs Claude Gray, Mrs Meredith Walker, accompanist. The pallbearers were Claude Gray, Harry Valentine, Cleo Savage, Oliver Posten, Ira Jewell and Herbert Reeve.

Services Held in Villisca For Chester H. Weil

Services for Chester H. Weil, 76, were held January 30 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with Rev. Carl Cummings officiating. Interment was at Villisca Cemetery in Villisca. Mr. Weil died January 26, 1984 at Vista Gardens Nursing Home in Red Oak, Ia.

Chester H. [arvey] Weil, son of Charles Weil and Lillian Cutberth Weil was born April 9, 1907 near Guss in Taylor County, Iowa.

He grew to maturity in the area where he was born where he attended the public school and was a part of the various community activities.

On May 9, 1929 he was united in marriage to Gertrude [Belle] Akers of Gravity, Iowa. Two sons were born to bless their home: Robert and Ronald [Duane].

He was a farmer during most of his active years and moved to Villisca upon retirement six years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters and one grandson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gertrude of the home; two sons, Robert and his wife Geraldine [Moore] of Clarinda, Iowa and Ronald and his wife Mary [Daily] of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Roger and Denise [Marie] Spinler of Clarinda, Iowa; Gaylen, Barbara and Michael Weil of Shenandoah, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

His family and friends will remember him as a kind and considerate person and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mrs Chas. Weil

The death of Mrs Chas. Weil [Lillian Katherine Cutberth], 79, occurred at her home southeast of Villisca about midnight Friday, She has lived on the same farm where she passed away, since she was 17 years old, which is located eight miles southeast of Villisca.

Her son, Matthew Weil and wife of this place left Saturday for Villisca and the funeral service was held Monday afternoon.

Mathew Weil Rites At Gravity Saturday

Mathew [Charles] Weil, son of Charles and Lillie [Cutberth] Weil, was born in Taylor County, near Guss, Iowa, on May 19, 1888.  He passed away at his home in Gravity, Thursday, July 16, 1959, at the age of 71 years, one month, 27 days.

He was married to Nellie Sollars and to this union one daughter, Mable, was born. Both preceded him in death.

On March 29, 1916, he was married to Mary Isabelle Squires and to this union two sons, Don Samuel and Charles Mathew were born.

He is survived by his wife, the two sons, and eight grandchildren all of Gravity. Also two brothers, Chester Weil of Gravity and Estel Weil of Villisca.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, four brothers and three sisters.

As a young man he joined the Methodist church at North Grove, Iowa.

Services were held from the Christian Church in Gravity, Saturday, July 18, conducted by Montie Avery. Burial in Hawleyville cemetery.
