Obituary
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Fleming for A.
J. Barkley who died Saturday.
Music was furnished by Messrs. George Hulse, Des Grant, Elvon Graham and M. A.
Dugan with Mrs. C. A. Warren at the piano. Pallbearers were Ed Morris, J. L.
Morris, Frank Kester, H. B. Lippitt, A. H. Alabaugh and L. A. Mahaffey, of
Sterling.
Andrew
Jackson Barkley was born Feb. 23,
1876, in Montgomery, Kansas, the sixth of seven children. His father was William
Barkley of Tennessee, his mother, Martha Brock Barkley of
Alabama, When a child, his parents moved to Pueblo, later moving to Gravity,
Iowa, where he grew to manhood.
On
March 28, 1900, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Lewellen at Gravity. To this union three children were
born: Edwin Arthur, Freda, and William Lewellen. In March,
1919, they moved to Fleming, which place has since been their home.
Saturday
morning, Jan. 27, he had gone about his usual work when he was suddenly
stricken with a heart attack. He was rushed to Sterling where he was given
relief and was taken to the home of his daughter, where he passed away in an
hour.
At
his going he was 63 years old. He leaves his wife Elizabeth, his three children, four grandchildren, Barbara
Lee and Dianne Elizabeth Barkley,
and Jack Linne and Kay Don
Morison. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Betty Keasling of
Gravity, Iowa, two brothers, Clifford, of Sterling, and Arthur,
of Gravity, Iowa. —Sterling, (Colo.,) Farm Journal.
The
sister, Mrs. Betty Keasling,
and niece, Mrs. Frank Weatherly,
attended the funeral, returning Sunday.

Reuben Livingston
Reuben
Livingston, son of Thomas and
Nancy [Jane Jones] Livingston,
was born January 18, 1859, near Lewiston, Illinois in Fulton County and
departed this life September 30, 1941, at the age of 82 years.
He
came to Iowa at the age of 21 years, where his entire life was spent in Gravity
and Clarinda.
On
December 24, 1889, he was united in marriage to Hattie Fisher. To this union was born three sons: George T. of Fremont, Nebraska; Harry A. [lonzo] of Cherokee, Ia., and Laurence F. of Clarinda.
He
was a man whose chief interests were in his own home. He was a good husband and
loving father. He was a member of the Clarinda Methodist church.
Those
surviving him are his widow, three sons, and daughters-in-law Mrs George
Livingston and Mrs Harry
Livingston, whom he loved as his
own; also two sisters, Mrs Fred Fisher of Clarinda and Mrs J. W. McFarland of Blanchard; and a brother, Henry Livingston of California, besides a number of nephews and
nieces and a host of friends.

Chancy
H. [ezekiah] Webster, son of Joseph
[Perry] and Mary [Ann Shafer] Webster,
was born in Delaware, Ohio, Dec. 25, 1852 and died January 22, 1943, at the
Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, at the age of 90 years and 28 days.
He
came to Iowa in 1875 and spent most of his life in Page and Adams counties.
On
December 25, 1877 he was married to [Mary] Elizabeth Hutchison.
To them were born four children: Charles [Henry] Webster of Denver, Colo., [James] Earl Webster of Corning, Mrs. Ala [Ola May] Barnes of Gravity, with whom he made his home the past
two years, and Mrs. [Mary] Jennie Masker, who died April 17,1941. His wife died Nov. 18, 1941.
He
is also survived by one brother, Henry F. Webster of Corning, twelve grandchildren, and 22 great
grandchildren.
He
was a member of the Hazel Dell Christian church.
The
funeral services were held in Corning Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the
Gravity cemetery.

Earl
Webster, 75, of Corning, died in
Rosary hospital there Saturday, July 2. The body was brought to Bedford and
funeral services were held in the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service Home on State
Street at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, July 6. Rev. Ward Campbell of Mount
Ayr officiated. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery. He is survived by two sons,
several nieces and nephews.

James
Earl Webster, son of Chancey
and Elizabeth Webster was born
Sept. 23, 1884 at Clarinda, Iowa, and passed away at Corning, Iowa, July 2,
1960, at the age of 75 years.
He
was united in marriage to Maude Bothel June 15, 1912.
To
this union were born four children, Helen, Noel, Aneth and Duane.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jennie Masker and Ola Barnes; two daughters, Helen and Aneth.
He
was baptized and joined the East Mission church when a young man.
He
made his home in Corning, Iowa, the past forty years.
He
is survived by one brother, Charles [Henry] of Denver, Colo., two
sons, Noel of Concord, Calif.,
and Duane of Denver, Colo.,
many nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, July 6. The Rev.
Ward Campbell officiated. Burial at the Gravity cemetery.

[Mary]
Elizabeth Hutchinson, daughter of Mary and Thomas Hutchinson,
was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on May 7, 1857, and died November 18,
1941, at the home of C. [harles] A. [ugustus] Barnes, near Gravity, Iowa, aged 84 years, 6 months, 11
days.
When
she was a small child, she with her parents and brothers and sisters moved to
Illinois, where the family lived for a few years before coming to Iowa where
she spent the remainder of her life. She united with the Methodist church while
still a young girl, and kept her membership in that church until 1920 when she
united with the Christian church at Corning. On December 25, 1877, she was
married to Chancy H. [ezekiah] Webster, who with three of her four children still survive her. Until 1920
she and her family made their home in Taylor and Page counties, when they came
to Corning, where she spent the remainder of her life until the past nine
months, cared for at the home of her daughter, where she passed away. To this
union four children were born. The three surviving are, Charles of Denver, [James] Earl of Corning, and Mrs. C. [harles] A. [ugustus] Barnes [Ola May] of Gravity. Mrs W. [illiam] L. [ester] Masker [Mary Jennie] preceded her in death in April 1941.
Besides
her husband and three children Mrs Webster is survived by six half-brothers and sisters, namely: Mrs Ona Phelps of Oregon; Mrs Ida Hubert and Mrs Effie Marshall, Braddyville; Mrs Fannie McNutt, College Springs; Charles Hutchinson, Coin, and Lincoln Hutchinson of Wyoming. Twelve grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren also survive.
Services
for Mrs Webster were held from
the Christian church at Corning, November 20, and interment was made in the
Gravity cemetery. Pallbearers were Glade, R. C. and A. C. Barnes, Earl
Webster, and Ward and Noble
Campbell.
Services were in charge
of Mrs Dessie G. Pilalas of Mound City, Missouri, assisted by Rev. Whyte of
Gravity.

Charles
D. Weller, 59, died at his home
east of Gravity, Tuesday. The funeral services will be held at the Methodist
church in Gravity at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, July 17, conducted by Rev.
Mr. Proctor and assisted by Rev. F. B. Harris of Conway. Burial will be in the
Gravity cemetery.
He
is survived by his wife and by two children: Ralph Weller and Mrs. Laura Hicks of the home; two stepchildren, Mrs. Harold
Barchus of Conway and Miss
Ruby Woodyard of Belmond, Iowa;
two brothers, Fred Weller of
Conway and Smith Weller of
Chicago; and by a niece, Belle Norton of Conway, who was reared in the home.

The
funeral service was held in the Methodist church here Friday afternoon,
conducted by the Rev. C. W. Proctor, pastor, and burial was in Washington
cemetery.
The
music was by a mixed quartette composed of Mrs O. M. Buckner, Mrs Andy Nielsen,
Earl King and J. S. Francis, Mrs Lucas, accompanist.
Pallbearers
were, L. E. Morley, Clyde Stephens, L. A. Coy, A. J. Leighton, Tom Young, and
C. A. Burwel1. The following obituary wan read at the service;
Lucinda
Wright Weller was born near New
London, Iowa, July 1, 1858, and died in Bedford, Iowa, November 25, 1941, at
the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 24 days.
She
was the youngest daughter of Charles and Matilda [Porter] Wright, early settlers of Henry County. There were seven
children all of whom grew to maturity. Only one sister, Mrs Orinda Little of Des Moines, remains.
On
November 29, 1877, she was united in marriage to William E. [astley] Weller, in a unique ceremony which united four couples, Mr
Weller's brother and sister and a
sister of Mrs Weller. The
ceremony was performed by Mr Weller's uncle. Mrs Weller is the last of the group to be taken.
To
this union four sons were born, Winifred [Winfred] E. [arl], Chas. D, Willie
W. [allace], and Smith E.[dwin] A niece, Mrs Bell Weller Norton, who was left motherless when a few weeks old,
made her home with them.
William
Weller, her husband, passed away
May 10, 1928, and also one son, Willie W. [allace], on April 2, 1937.
Besides
the three sons she leaves five grandchildren, Mrs Bell Norton, and her six children.
She and her husband were
converted and joined church at Cramer Chapel in the north part of Page County,
in 1891. Ever after she was a faithful Christian trying to work for her Master
wherever she was. She was a great lover of home and family and was loved by all
who knew her.

Smith
Edwin Weller, 57, a former
resident of the Gravity community, died in Grady Memorial hospital at Atlanta,
Georgia, Saturday, November 23 after a short illness.
The
body was brought to Bedford and funeral services will be held at the Shum
Funeral Home at two p.m., Friday, November 29. Burial will be in the Gravity
cemetery.
Mr.
Weller is survived by one
brother, Fred Weller of Lenox
and by a number of nieces and nephews.

LENOX – Smith Weller, 57, died last Saturday at a hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He was a brother of Fred Weller of Lenox. His body has been brought to the Shum funeral home of Bedford where funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday. Rev. Howard DeVore of Gravity will officiate. Burial will be in the Gravity cemetery. Mr. Weller, who had never married, is survived by his brother.

Joseph, Friday, April 2.

afternoon conducted by Rev. J. A. Walls. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

Obituary
William
Wallace Weller was born near
Creston, Iowa, Aug. 20, 1889. When 2 years of age his parents moved to
Montgomery County, near Stanton, where they resided until 1901, when they came
to Taylor County, which had been his home since.
In
March 1918 he enlisted in Co. D 3rd corps of the artillery and served in
training and over seas, being in action along the front fifteen days before the
Armistice was signed.
April
28, 1920 he was married to Maud Ellen Knott. To them were born three children, William
Dean, Mary Ellen and Howard
Edward, who with their mother
remain to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and husband. He also
leaves his aged mother and three brothers, Winifred [Winfred] E. [arl]
Weller and Charles D. Weller of near Conway and Smith E. [dwin] Weller of Detroit, Mich. Also a cousin, Mrs. Belle
Norton of Conway, who lived in
their home from a baby until grown and was a sister to the family of boys.
He
was converted during the evangelistic services of Rev. Flannery in 1915 and
united with the Methodist church of Sharpsburg. In his quiet way he was a
faithful, Christian man.

Fred Weller, 77, Of Lenox Dies
Fred
Weller of Lenox died Thursday,
January 9 at Rosary hospital in Corning.
Funeral
services were held at the Shum Funeral Home in Bedford, Saturday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Burton C. Collier, Methodist minister in Lenox. Burial was in
Gravity cemetery. The body was taken to the home in Lenox Saturday morning,
where it remained until time for the service in the afternoon.
Winfred
Earl Weller, son of William
[Eastley] and Lucinda Wright Weller,
was born March 25, 1889 in Rook County, Kansas, and died at the age of 77
years, nine months, 15 days.
He
and his parents moved to Creston in 1881, later moving to the Kent community.
In 1891 they moved to Montgomery County, leaving there in 1901 to settle on a
farm near Gravity. He spent five years working on the Union Pacific Railroad
out of Cheyenne, Wyo., which work he left in 1909 after purchasing a farm east
of Conway in 1908.
On
September 21, 1910 he was married to Gertie May Piper. They lived on the farm for 37 years before
moving to Lenox in May 1948.
His
mother, father and three brothers preceded him in death.
Those
left to mourn his passing are his wife, Gertie; Belle Norton of Conway, a cousin raised in his home; two
sisters-in-law, three nephews, two nieces.
While
yet a young man, he accepted Christ as his Saviour, joining the Cramer Chapel
church. He later joined the Sharpsburg Methodist church, transferring to the
Methodist church in Lenox when they moved.
