Mrs. John Dalton

Mrs. John Dalton, aged 80 years, 9 months and 2 days, passed away Thursday morning at her home 10 miles southeast of Bedford. The funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. R. Talley. The body was interred in the Forest Grove cemetery.

Nancy Maria Tracy was born Feb. 3, 1851, near Strawberry Point, Iowa. She was the survivor of her immediate family, four brothers and two sisters having preceded her in death. Her girlhood days were spent at Strawberry Point, where she attended school and became a teacher at 16 years of age, teaching in the schools of Clayton County until her marriage. She was married to John Dalton, April 7, 1870, and came the next day after her marriage to Taylor County, where she and her husband came to the farm that has been their home ever since that date. The husband and father died Aug. 20, 1890. To Mr. and Mrs. Dalton four children were born, the eldest dying in infancy. Three are still living and have made their home with the mother, Clara J. [ane], Grace A. and John M. [ilton] Dalton. Mrs. Dalton first became a member of the Methodist church when services were held at the Liberty schoolhouse. When services were discontinued there her name was transferred to Sheridan, Mo., where her membership was at the time of her death. For a number of years her health has not been such that she could attend church regularly. Declining health has kept her at home but her severe illness came last Monday and she passed away Thursday morning. She was a lover of home and her thought and plan was always for those of her household, and yet she was interested in those things made for a better community, and she always stood for right and righteousness. She was self-sacrificing and even in her last moments was planning for the welfare of her children.
