Final Rites Held August 2 For Forrest Rusco, 69

Funeral services for Forrest Albert Rusco, 69, of Blockton, held August 2 in the Blockton United Methodist Church, were conducted by Rev. Milton Henderson. Mr. Rusco died July 31, 1979 in the Ringgold County Hospital, Mount Ayr. Blockton American Legion Post No. 443 presented military honors at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Forrest Albert Rusco, son of   Albert   James   and   Anna McCann   Rusco, was   born   in Athelstan, Iowa   January   28, 1910.

He attended schools in Athelstan and Blockton, graduating from Blockton High School in 1927.

He spent more than three years in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving almost the entire time in the European theater of operation and was honorably discharged, as a Sergeant.

His working years were spent in the retail grocery business until his retirement in 1974.

He was united in marriage May 1, 1946 to Mildred Overholser, who preceeded him in death August 1971. To this union two children were born, Phyllis Eileen and Gene Earl.

In February 1973, Forrest and Yvonne Menelaus Cavanaugh were united in marriage.

Preceeding him in death were his father, mother and two brothers.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Yvonne; daughter Phyllis and husband, David Poore, and two grandchildren, Emily and Matthew, Clarinda, Iowa; son Gene, Ben Lomond, Calif; a stepson, Dr. Gary Cavanaugh, and wife, Sylvia, and two children, Stockton, Calif; two sisters, Helen Sickels and Freda Green, Stockton, Calif; a brother, Doyle, San Luis Obispo, Calif; aunts Jennie Rusco, Blockton, Velma Haugar, Des Moines; Minnie Wessels and Cassie Bach, Chula Vista, Calif; uncles, Lee McCann, Creston, Ia; and Wesley McCann, Urbana, Illinois.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Blockton Post #443 of the American Legion.

His warmth and concern for his friends and family was a reflection of his underlying worth as a person. Those who have known his friendship and love will truly feel his loss.

The death of Forrest Rusco was blamed on heart failure, but that obviously could not have been the reason. His heart never failed him or anybody else. Ask the people with whom he worked through the years. It was as steady as the stars. Ask anybody in the company of his friends. It was as faithful as the tides. Ask his family for whom he never was and never would have been a burden but who always wanted to be their strength. No matter what the doctors say, they cannot blame his heart. In the spiritual sense his heart was not a failure but his greatest success. He had room in it for every joy and for everybody else's joy. This openness and considerateness, this warmness and purity of spirit set him apart.
