services for Mrs. Effie May [Byers] Havens were held at Wolfs Funeral Home in Villisca, Aug. 15, with burial at
Grant, Ia. Included in the service was the following obituary.
Effie
May [Byers] Havens was born July
18, 1877 on a farm near Corydon, Iowa. At the age of 10 she moved to Montgomery
county, Iowa, and spent the next 75 years in or near there.
She
was united in marriage to William Havens on Dec. 29, 1892. He preceded her in death in 1940. To this union
four children were born, a daughter, Lela, a daughter, Mrs. Fred Hunter [Beulah Mae] of Bedford, a son, Paul, of Villisca and a son, Glen, who died in infancy. She also leaves two
granddaughters, Mrs. Drexel Keith,
Bedford, and Mrs. Doris Huber of
Bend, Oregon; also three great grandchildren, Randall Keith, Kay Lynne Keith and Martin Randall Huber. She leaves a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs.
Havens united with the Christian
Church at the age of 15 in Morton's Mill. Later, in 1953 she transferred her
membership to the Methodist Church in Villisca.

Monday night at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he had lived since his retirement
from medical practice for many years at South Haven and Detroit, Mich.
He was originally from
the Taylor county area. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; son, Earl of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a daughter, Mrs. John (Jean) Steekel of El Monte, Calif.; a brother George Lathrop of Clarinda; four sisters, Mrs. Lida Combs of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. (Candace) Arthur Falk of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs. Clyde Johnson of Clarinda. Services were held at the Boyd

Yale Lillie, son of John and
Ruth Lillie, was born Oct. 11,
1914 at Shenandoah, Iowa, and passed away at the Greater Community hospital in
Creston, Iowa, on Aug. 18, 1962 at the age of 47 years, 10 months and 7 days.
He
grew up in the Lenox community and graduated from the Lenox high school in
1931.
For
about a year he lived in Central America with an uncle and worked there.
On
Aug. 4, 1938 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Trost. To this union two sons were born, Richard and
Allen J.
Since
1943 he has lived in and around the Clearfield community. He has operated the
Clearfield Hardware store since 1946.
He
was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Richard.
Those
surviving are his wife, Dorothy and son, Allen J.; his father, John and stepmother, Olive of Brooks; three step-brothers, Bill Pegg of Washington state, Tom Pegg of Corning and Bill Walter of Brooks; a step-sister, Annis Wilkinson of Hawaii; his father and mother-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Trost of Lenox;
several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Yale was a member of the Business Men’s club and the
Lions club. He was very active in the community summer baseball program for the
past six summers and showed a real interest in youth, even when his health was
failing.

was born at Lenox Nov. 23, 1942 and died at Glenwood Jan. 23, 1954 at the age

is survived by his parents and a brother, Allen J.; also grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Trost, Mr. and Mrs. John Lillie.

services were held in the J. B. Crew funeral home Monday, the Rev. C. E.
McPherson officiating. Burial was In the Clearfield cemetery.

Carlton Mincks, son of Hiram
Minor and Nancy Ann [Spooner]
Mincks, was born September 1,
1882 on a farm west of Blockton in Taylor county, Iowa. He was stricken with a
heart attack early Friday, February 13 and died at his home north of Redding,
at the age of 65 years, 5 months, 12 days.
He
spent his early life and school days in Taylor County.
On
April 28, 1915 he was married to Ethel Blunck and they made their home in the Blockton
community. To them was born one son, Robert, who with his wife and a son survive.
They moved to Ringgold
County in 1921. He became a member of the East Mission Baptist Church near
Bedford at an early age. He is survived by his wife, son and grandson. Also by
three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Besco and Miss
Ola
Mincks of Blockton, and Mrs.
Margaret Slaughter of Des Moines;
two brothers, Hiram Mincks of
Blockton and Philip Mincks of
Bedford.
The funeral services were
held Monday afternoon, February 10 at the Methodist church in Redding,
conducted by Rev. U. E. Burroughs of Mount Ayr, assisted by Rev. Francis
Harris. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery at Blockton.

Obituary
Hiram
Minor Mincks, son of Hiram and
Margaret Mincks, was born in
Jackson County, Ohio, August 20, 1848, and passed away at his home in Blockton
November 22, 1938, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 2 days. Mr. Mincks was the last of his immediate family.
At
the age of 14, both of his parents having passed away, he left his childhood
home in Ohio and came to Centerville, this state, to make his home with
relatives.
On March 22, 1869, he was married to Nancy
A. [nn] Spooner, who preceded him
in death April 29, 1909.
Mr.
and Mrs. Mincks were the parents
of ten children, six of whom survive—Mrs. George Besco [Lillie], Miss Ola, Hiram [Richard] and Phillip [Edgar], all of Blockton; Asa [Carlton], of Redding, and Mrs. Margaret [Nancy]
Slaughter, of Des Moines. Of
those deceased—Carrie died in infancy, Miss Christina in 1903, Mrs. C. [harles] E. [dward] Streepy [Millie] in 1908, and Miss Mae E. [tta] in 1935.
Mr.
and Mrs. Mincks came to Taylor
County in 1873 and established their home, and where Mr. Mincks spent the remainder of his life, except for three
years when the family lived in Missouri.
Mr.
Mincks, being one of the very
early pioneers of Taylor County, had the experience of living through the
trying hardships of the pioneer days.
He
was a member of the Christian church, having made his confession to his God
during the ministry of Rev. H. E. Van Horn.
Mr.
Mincks was a good father, an
honest and upright citizen, and a good neighbor.
He
leaves to mourn, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren,
nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
The
funeral services were conducted in the Blockton Christian church Friday
afternoon at 8 o'clock by Rev. W. H. Warrior. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery,
Blockton.

Miss
Mae Mincks, 50, a resident of
Blockton, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 1935. The funeral services were held at the
home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. H. Warrior. Burial was in the Rose
Hill cemetery.

Etta Mincks, daughter of H.

early youth she united with the Christian church at Blockton and lived a life
of Christian service. She was educated in the schools of Taylor County and at
Drake University in Des Moines. She taught in the schools of Taylor and Polk
counties and was also employed for several years in insurance work in Des
Moines.
Surviving
relatives are her aged father, H. [iram] M. [inor] Mincks of Blockton, three sisters and three brothers.
They are Mrs. G. [eorge] H. Besco [Lillie], Miss Ola Mincks, Hiram Mincks,
and Phillip Mincks, all of

Mae
Etta Mincks, daughter of H.
[iram] M. [inor] and Nancy [Ann Spooner] Mincks, was born in Taylor County, near Blockton, Iowa,
December 20, 1884.
In
early youth she professed her faith in God by joining the Christian church, and
lived a life of Christian service to all who knew her.
She
received her education in Taylor county schools and at Drake University. She
was a teacher of excellent competence for several years in Taylor and Polk
counties. She also spent several years employed in insurance work in Des
Moines.
She
passed away August 10, 1935, at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 21 days.
She
leaves to mourn her death her aged father, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs.
G. [eorge] H. Besco [Lillie], Miss Ola Mincks, Mrs. Margaret Slaughter and Hiram, Asa and Phillip Mincks; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W.H.

funeral of Mrs. H. [iram] M. [inor] Mincks [Nancy Ann Spooner]
took place at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Christian church as announced
and was largely attended. The floral tributes were most appropriate and
beautiful. The immediate family of the deceased were all present except her
son, Hiram, of Sedgwick,
Colorado, at the funeral; also her two nieces, Mrs. Willis Jones and Mrs. Edgar Smith, of Seymour, and her brother Luke Spooner, of Grinnell, were present and returned to their
respective homes Monday. The members of the family who reside at Buffalo,
Missouri, returned home today.

Entered into rest at her home near Halfway Monday night, March 29, Mrs. H. M. Mincks, aged 58 years. The deceased, a worthy and popular lady, had been suffering for some time from an affliction of the heart and her death comes as no great surprise to those near her. She leaves a devoted companion and seven children who have the sympathy of all in their great loss. The remains will be shipped to her old home at Blockton, Ia., for interment.

Funeral
services for Miss Ola Maude Mincks,
life-time Taylor county resident, were held in the Blockton Christian Church
September 8 with Rev. James Ferris officiating.
Miss
Mincks died in Ringgold County
Hospital, Mt. Ayr, Iowa, September 2, 1963 at the age of 85 years, seven months
and nine days. Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery, Blockton.

in the services was the following obituary:
Miss
Ola Maude Mincks was born in
Taylor County near Blockton, Iowa, on Jan. 23, 1878. She was the daughter of Hiram
Minor Mincks and Nancy Ann
Spooner Mincks. There were six sisters and three brothers in the
family. All have preceded her in death except one sister, Margaret, of Des Moines, Iowa, and one brother, Phil, of Bedford.
She
was a member of the First Christian church of Blockton and a member of the
Rebekah Lodge in which she was very active. Aunt Ode, as all knew her, went the second mile in the Christian
walk of life, having given her life to helping others no matter what the cause
or need.
Aunt
Ode raised three children, taking
them when very young to bring them to adulthood. They were her niece, May
Streepy and nephews Bob
Streepy and Joe Bill Slaughter.
She
is survived by her sister, Margaret,
of Des Moines; her brother Phil of
Bedford; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bill Slaughter and family of New Jersey, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Streepy and family of Oklahoma City, Okla., and May
Streepy of Blockton, Ia., who
looked after Aunt Ode for
many, many years, through all her Illnesses until the time of her death. She
leaves many other nieces and nephews and a host of friends and will be missed
by all who knew her.

machine repairman of 209 S. 30th St., who died late Tuesday at a
local hospital following an illness with a heart condition.

in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr.
Myers was born Aug. 9, 1887, to Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Myers at
Centralia, Kans.
He
was connected with his father in the lumber business at Blackwell, Okla.,
before coming to Billings in 1928.
Approximately
10 years ago Mr. Myers was
associated with Wesley Gauger in operating a bicycle shop on N. 29th St. Since that time he had been employed by a number of Billings appliance
dealers in motor servicing and machine repair work.
Mr.
Myers was married March 30, 1949,
at Red Lodge to Mrs. Cora Z. [Herrington] Huss.
He
was a member of the United Presbyterian Church at Blackwell.
Surviving
are his wife, a son, George Myers of Greenville, Miss.; a daughter, Grace Myers of Great Falls; two stepsons, [Lee] Robert Huss of 215 S. 36th St., and Charles Huss of 324 S. 25th St.; three brothers, Huber

[Ralph] Walkup, 67, former
Bedford resident, died Aug. 11 in Altadena, Calif. Services and burial were in
California.
He
is survived by his wife, Edna [May Church], a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Harrell of Pasadena, a sister, Mrs. Blanche Keith and a brother, Glenn, of Bedford, a nephew, Robert Walkup, of Blockton and four grandchildren.
Walkup was a principal in the Pasadena
high school many years prior to his retirement.

[oseph] M. Windsor, one of the
pioneer merchants of Bedford, passed from works to rewards a few days since and
his remains were taken to White Pigeon, Michigan, for interment. He had been a
resident of Bedford since 1858, and was about 87 years of age.

services for Carl Walter Winemiller,
49, farmer of the Sheridan community, who died August 2 at Missouri Methodist
hospital in St Joseph following an extended illness, were held August 4 at the
Sheridan Christian church conducted by Rev. Delbert Biehle, pastor. Interment
was in the Sheridan cemetery.
Carl
Walter Winemiller was born
September 9, 1912, near Sheridan. On June 8, 1936, he was married to Miss
Bonnie Nash. They had two
daughters and one son.
Mr.
Winemiller's mother passed away
when he was a boy of nine. Two years later his mother's sister, Myrtle, became his stepmother.
Surviving
are his wife; a son, Dale, of
the home; two daughters, Sherrie Winemiller and Mrs. Lois June Rowen of St Joseph; a granddaughter, Juna Rowe; his father and step-mother of St Joseph; two
brothers, Albert Winemiller of
Kansas City, Mo., and Virgil Winemiller of St. Joseph.
Recognized
as one of the leading conservation farmers of the county, Winemiller was a supervisor of the Soil District of Worth
County and served many years as board chairman.
He was a member of the
Christian Church at Sheridan.
