Bailie
McCormick Last Rites Held
In Texas
According to a letter written to the Times-Press June 10 by a sister, funeral services for Bailie
E. [lisha] McCormick, 69, of
Canyon, Texas, a former Randall County commissioner and member of the Canyon
school board, were held Monday in Central Church of Christ at Canyon, with
Dwayne Dennis officiating. Mr.
McCormick died Saturday morning at St. Anthony's Hospital. Interment was at Dreamland Cemetery.
He was born in [Waco] York [County], Nebr. [Feb 8,
1905], son of Walter E. [lisha] McCormick and Blanche Bailie McCormick, both deceased, former residents of Bedford.
McCormick had resided in Randall County, Texas, since
1908. During the 50's he was
a county commissioner.
A farm to market road south of Amarillo was named
in his honor.
Mr. McCormick was a member of the Central Church
of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Donabel [Bushong]; a son, Jack McCormick of Morgantown, W. Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy
Williams, of Tahoka, Texas; three
sisters, Mrs. Lois Kellogg of
1618 Lipscomb, Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Maxine Lazenby of 3316 Lynette, Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Wayne
McCormick of Wichita Falls,
Texas, and Mike McCormick [Myron Bruce] of Lakewood, Calif., and five grandchildren.

McCormick "Bobby" Lazenby,
92, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in
Llano Mausoleum Chapel with
the Rev. Franklin Williams of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating.
Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth
Avenue and Pierce St.
Mrs.
Lazenby was born in Lincoln, Neb., but helped pioneer the Amarillo area with
her family in 1908. She grew up on the McCormick Farm, for which McCormick Road was named, and
graduated from West Texas Teachers Normal School. She taught in a one-room
school in Wildorado and was recently recognized as their oldest living teacher.
Mrs.
Lazenby graduated from Amarillo Business College. She spent several years on
the West Coast before returning to Amarillo in 1972. She was a member of Top of
Texas Bridge Club, Senior Citizens of Amarillo and Covenant Presbyterian Church. In 1955, she was awarded Realtor of the
Year in Oregon.
She married David Lazenby in 1945.
He preceded her in death in 1971.
Survivors
include a daughter, Colleen Weeks;
two grandchildren; three great
grandsons; and a great great granddaughter.

Mrs. Bailie McCormick
Mrs. Bailie (Donabel) McCormick, 89, of Canyon, died Friday, March 10, 2000.
Services
will be at 10 a.m. Monday in University Church of Christ with David Lough
officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Mrs.
McCormick was born in Knickerbocker and graduated from Rankin High School. She
attended Sul Ross University and West Texas State College then taught school in
Rankin.
A
homemaker and longtime Canyon resident, Mrs. McCormick also farmed and ranched.
She was a member of the University Church of Christ, Daughters of Republic of
Texas and a past member of the Home Demonstration Club.
She
married Bailie McCormick in
1931 at Rankin. He died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Jack
McCormick of Wichita, Kan.; a
daughter, Nancy Williams of
Tahoka; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The
family will meet friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. They
suggest memorials be to University Church of Christ, 3400 Conner Dr., Canyon,
TX 79015; or Don Harrington Boy Scout Camp, 401 Tascosa Rd., Amarillo, TX
79124.

- Colleen [Monaghan] Lazenby Weeks,
71, died Thursday, July 10, 2003.
Memorial
services will be at 1:30 p.m. (Hawaii time) today in Light of Hope Ministries
in Honolulu.
Mrs.
Weeks was born in Amarillo. She lived much of her life in the western half of
the United States, and returned when her mother, Maxine [McCormick Monaghan]
Lazenby, returned in the early
1970s. She spent her life as a saleswoman, home-health worker and certified
nurses aide. She received honors and awards for the poetry she wrote and loved
traveling and reading Christian books. In her last three years, because of poor
health, she moved with her family to Hawaii, where she loved the birds, the
flowers, the ocean and the architecture.
Survivors
include a son, Ronald Jones; a
daughter, Marlene Jones-Skurtu;
a granddaughter, Jasmine Skurtu;
and three grandsons, Johanan, Jeremiah and Joshua Skurtu.

Ernest H. Martin, LaJunta, Colo.
Services for Ernest H. [iram] Martin, 94, a former resident of Madison County, who
died Nov. 30 at La Junta Medical Center Nursing Home at La Junta, Colo., were
held Monday afternoon, Dec. 6 at the Hebron United Methodist Church with the
Rev. Kathy Bissen and the Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was at Hebron
Cemetery.
Mr.
Martin was born at Bedford March 2, 1888, the son of Charles and Anna
Gilbert Martin. He engaged in
farming and spent most of his life in Adair and Madison counties, moving to La
Junta in 1971.
He
was married to Mattie Schulz
Nov. 16, 1916 in Madison County and was a member of the Oak Grove Community
Church.
Survivors
include a son, Vernon Martin
of Davis City and daughter-in-law, Goldie; a daughter, Rena Turrentine of La Junta, Colo., and son-in-law, Guy; a half brother, Russell Martin; and a half-sister, Ruth Varnum, both of Marshalltown; five grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, three brothers and a
sister.
