Mrs. Ernest Martin Died Here Tuesday

Death Occurs at Winterset Nursing Home at Age of 66 Years

Mrs. Ernest Martin, well known resident of Webster township, died Tuesday, February 19th, at a nursing home in Winterset, after a year's illness with a malignancy. She was 66 years of age.

Mrs. Martin, the former Mattie Elizabeth Schulz, a daughter of Otto and Christine [Luers] Schulz, was born, December 12, 1890, in Adair County. All of her life was spent in either the eastern part of Adair County, or Madison County. She was married, November 16, 1916, to Ernest Martin, and they were the parents of four children.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rena Wolfe of La Junta Colorado and Vernon at home. Two other sons Donald and Elmer died in infancy. She also leaves four grandchildren, and one sister, and three brothers; Mrs. Walker Huffman of Winterset, Will Schulz of Sidney, Nebraska, Frank Schulz of Macksburg and Ray Schulz of Winterset. A brother Ernest Schulz died last year.

She was a member of the Oak Grove church, and her pastor, the Rev. Charles Bellus will conduct her funeral services which will be held at the Hebron church, Thursday, February 21st, at 2 p. m. The Hebron pastor, the Rev. Earl Streyffeler will assist with the services, and burial will be in the Hebron cemetery [Adair County, Iowa].

Services Held For Former Resident

Raymond L. [eslie] Wolfe died in a La Junta, Colorado hospital Tuesday, February 20th, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Friday at the Peacock Green Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Earl Miller, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Wolfe was born April 30, 1918 in Macksburg [Madison County, Iowa]. He grew up in Iowa and was married to Rena Martin near Corning September 21, 1940. Mr. Wolfe farmed in Iowa until the family moved to La Junta in 1956 for his health.

Survivors include his wife, Rena, two sons AK2c Phillip Wolfe, stationed aboard the USS Coral Sea, Robert at home; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Reed of La Junta and Carol at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wolfe [Lela Herren] of Macksburg, a brother Lee and two grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Those attending from this vicinity included Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wolfe, Lee Wolfe, Rex Schulz, Ernest Martin, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Herren of this vicinity and also Mrs. Velma Wolfe of Creston.

Mrs. A. J. John

Fanny Elizabeth Coy was born June 14, 1854, in Ohio, and departed this life, Sept. 15, 1930, aged 76 years, 3 months and 1 day. She moved to Henry County, Iowa, when young. At the age of 18 years, she was married to Geo. Hayes. One child was born to this union, Sam Hayes of New Market. In later life she moved to Bedford, where she was united in marriage to A. [mos] J. [ackson] John, Nov. 26, 1876. Six children were born to them, all surviving except one, who died in infancy. They are Agnes Knox of Clifton, Kans.; Lola Witt of Grayson, Mo.; Kinsey John of Sharpsburg; Louie Roop of Grayson, Mo., and Lawrence John of Bedford. She was also a mother to four stepchildren, Cary John, Nettie Fuller, Leon John and Daisy Gant. Mrs. Gant passed away about two years ago. Besides the six children and four stepchildren, she leaves 35 grandchildren. Mrs. John has been a resident of Taylor County for more than fifty years. She was the last member of her family to pass away. She united with the Methodist church when quite young, and has been a faithful member. She loved her bible and was happy in her Christian faith. She will be fondly remembered by a host of friends, as well as by her family.

The funeral services wee held at the Methodist Episcopal Church at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 17, and interment was made in Graceland cemetery.

L. L. Moore's Father Dies In Hospital

Etna F. Moore, 86, died at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa, Friday, November 24. The funeral services were held at Zearing, Iowa, Sunday, and burial was made there.

He is survived by three sons and three daughters, Leonard L. [ewis] Moore of Bedford being one of the sons. There are also twenty-three grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore [Martha Miller] died ten years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard L. Moore [Della Keith] who are employed in Lawrence, Kansas, attended the last rites at Zearing and stopped in Bedford a short time Tuesday afternoon as they were enroute back to Kansas. Their daughter, Mrs. Francis Farlow [Mary Lois], also attended the funeral, returning to Kansas Monday.

Obituary - L. A. Parks

Laurence Albert Parks, son of [John] Marion and Sarah [Ragon] Parks, was born August 17, 1868, at Danville, Ind., and died Saturday, Nov. 11, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 26 days.

Believing that greater opportunity could be found farther west the parents came with their family to Iowa in 1869 and located near Conway. Typical of pioneer days, the children, eleven in number, were given lessons of untiring energy in their home life, received their education in the district school, and grew into men and women of true character and stability.

On December 26, 1894, he was married to Miss Belle Query, and they began their life’s journey together on a farm in the vicinity of Conway, where they lived all but three years spent near and in Clearfield.

To them were born three daughters: Gail Kopp of Conway, Alice Bladon of Gravity, and Mildred Mae Grace who died Jan. 1, 1938.

Besides his wife and two daughters to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. [Harriet] Luella Chilcote of Bedford; three brothers, Chas. of Culdesac, Idaho, Ed [gar] of Clarkston, Wash., T. J. of Carlisle, Iowa.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. J. D. Stevens. Burial was in the Lexington cemetery.

Parks of Carlisle, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie Chilcote, Mrs. Rachael Parks, Mrs. James Keith [Dorothy Thompson], Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Thompson [Cora Ellen Parks], Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marley [Hazel Thompson], Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Tracy, all of Bedford.
