Floyd Gilbert Martin, 85, of 343 Woodrow Ave., died Saturday in a Vallejo
hospital after a short illness. A native of Bedford, Iowa, Mr. Martin had been a
Vallejo resident for 36 years and was employed as a rigger at Mare Island
Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1953 with 12 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War I and a member
of Carl H. Kreh Post 1123, VFW. Survivors include his wife, Esther [Starkey];
a sister, Mrs. Olive Weir
of Iowa, and a brother, Ernest,
of Colorado. A private funeral
service will be held today in the Wiggins Funeral Home, followed by

Martin] August 31, 1985 Walter Vernon Martin, youngest son of Ernest H. And Mattie Schultz Martin was born in Madison County, Iowa, September 22,
1928, and passed away from this life August 27, 1985, at Mercy Hospital,
Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 5 days. Most of his early years were spent around Madison
and Adair Counties, farming with his parents. In 1963 he moved his family to a small farm near
Davis City, Iowa. Vernon spent 13 years working as a custodian at
Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.
The last 7 years he enjoyed his employment at the Lamoni Community
School. Working evening
hours brought him in contact with the coaching staff and their boys
and girls. He shared their joy in winning and their
sorrow in losing. Vernon gave his life to our Heavenly Father at an
early age, remaining a faithful member of the R. L. D. S. church until
his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and two
infant brothers, Elmer
and Donald. Survivors include his wife, Goldie;
son, Douglas and wife,
Kathryn, of Lamoni;
adopted daughter, Jerie Gilbert,
of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Douglas, Jr., Clinton, Erin Marie and Andrew; one sister, Rena Turrentine and husband, Guy, of LaJunta, Colorado; brothers- and sisters-in-law;
nieces; nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service Lamoni R. L. D. S. Church, Saturday,

Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa [ Rena Martin Wolfe Turrentine] Memorial service for Rena C. Martin Wolfe Turrentine,
86, La Junta, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church of
La Junta. She died July 15, 2005, at Arkansas Valley
Regional Nursing Care Center in La Junta. She was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Hebron, Ia., to Ernest
and Mattie Schultz Martin. She was a very active member of the United Methodist
Church in La Junta. Mrs.
Turrentine was an LPN for 22 years, retiring in 1978. Following retirement, she and her husband,
Guy, volunteered at
the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and the senior center in
La Junta. She and Raymond Wolfe were married Sept. 21, 1940, and he preceded her
in death on Feb. 20, 1968. On May 31, 1970, she and Guy Turrentine
were married and he died Feb. 27, 1998. Mrs. Turrentine is survived by her children Marjorie
(Floyd) Radebaugh of
Cheraw, Carol (Ron) Wolfe-McKee of Cheyenne, WY; Phillip (Dorothy) Wolfe
of Duluth, MN. and Robert Wolfe
of Omaha, NE. Surviving
grandchildren include, Sandy, Pat, Dana, Ellie, Anna, Roger (Tracy),
Wendi, Joslyn, Nate and
Cameron. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands
and three brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to the United Methodist Church, Sixth and San Juan Ave., La Junta, CO
81050 or to a charity of choice direct or through Peacock-Larsen Funeral
Home. Arrangements are by Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home
and Crematory in La Junta.
