Obituary next week. Bedford Times-Press Thursday January 6, 1944 p. 7 Obituary - Fred
Kernen Fred
Kernen, oldest son of
the eight children born to Fred and Rosena Kernen, was born near Berne, Switzerland, Dec. 20, 1871. He
came with his parents to America in 1883, locating first near Corning,
Iowa. In 1889 the family
moved to Taylor County, near Guss, and three years later came to a farm
within a mile of the place which had been home to him for the past 37
years. Fred
Kernen was a kind and loving son and brother, a man of high ideals and
one of the best of neighbors.
By his cheerful and friendly disposition he has endeared himself
to a large circle of friends and neighbors.
When a child he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church
and the Christian faith has always been his purpose and hope. He was preceded in death by one brother,
who died in childhood; and by his parents, who died at the farm which
had been his home these recent years, his mother departing in 1916 and
his father in December 1936. Though
realizing somewhat the infirmities of age Mr. Kernen continued active
and industrious, and without warning, as the sun went down on Christmas
Eve, he was stricken, and regardless of the efforts of medical science
and loving hands for his recovery, he answered the final summons the
following morning, Dec. 25, 1943, at the age of 72 years and 5 days. He
is survived by four brothers, Jake, Levi, John and Carl, all of Bedford; two sisters, Mrs. Ross Mitchell [Rosa]
of Bedford and Mrs. Mary Robey
of Conway; 12 nieces and nephews and four great nieces and nephews. Funeral
services were conducted Monday afternoon in the home by Rev. Z. M. Bressler
of Gravity. Burial was
in the Lexington cemetery. Bedford Times-Press Thursday December 30, 1943 [p. 1] Ralph Keith, 44, Dies In Des Moines Ralph

funeral services were held in Des Moines Monday afternoon and burial
was in the Glendale cemetery there.
Attending the last rites from here were Mr. and Mrs. Ollie

Agnes Hunt Agnes
Hunt, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Aiton [Catherine Hook],
was born June 2, 1857, at Rio, Wisc., and passed from this life Dec.
28, 1937, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bruce Cramer [Clarice] in Clarinda, after an illness of two weeks. Mrs.
Hunt came to Bedford with her parents when 11 years old, attended the
Bedford public schools and taught school in Taylor County. She
was married in August 1880, to Albert V. Hunt. Mr.
and Mrs. Hunt went to Clarinda in the fall of 1897 where Mr. Hunt was
one of the leading merchants for many years.
He preceded her in death twenty years ago. Since his going, Mrs. Hunt had made her home with her two daughters,
Mrs. Bruce Cramer [Clarice] and Mrs. E. [dward] R. Harrison [Grace] of Clarinda. She was
prominent in social circles, being active in P. E. O. chapter, Easter
Star, and Current Events club, and a faithful member of the Methodist
church and societies of that church---a woman of sterling character,
loved by all who knew her. She
is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Bruce Cramer [Clarice] and Mrs. E. [dward] R. Harrison [Grace]; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren;

Mrs. Harry Grace Mrs.
Harry G. [eorge] Grace [Mildred Mae Parks], 37, of Diagonal, died at her home Saturday, Jan. 1, from burns suffered
Nov. 26 when a lamp exploded in her home. The
funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist church
at Diagonal and burial was made in the cemetery at that place. Mrs.
Grace's daughter, Patricia May,
lost her life in the fire, only living a few hours, having inhaled flames
and suffered third degree burns. Mrs.
Grace was dismissed from the Community hospital in Creston Dec. 10,
after having been taken there immediately after the accident. It was thought at that time that she was
recovering but according to reports a toxic poison caused a relapse
a few days before her death. She
is survived by her husband and three children, and also by her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Parks
of Corning, former residents of Conway. |
