[Clyde Albert Perkins] He was a brother of Ralph Perkins of Bedford. Clyde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chalon Perkins [Augusta
Davis],
was born and grew to manhood in Bedford. He is survived by his wife, Kate; son Dwight; three grandsons; one sister, Mrs.
Harry Skinner [Goldie May] of Taber, Alberta, Canada; and one brother, Ralph. He also had many relatives and friends and will be
missed by all. [Myrtle Ann Parker Thompson] Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church,
Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Clement D. Loehr. Burial was in Bedford Cemetery. Myrtle Ann Parker, daughter of F. [rancis] M.
Parker
and Anne E. Penney Parker,
was born at Blair, Nebr., July 7, 1878.
The first years of her life were spent in the vicinity of Omaha,
in California and in Wyoming.
In 1893 her family moved to Bedford. In 1901, she was married to Guy Thompson. The first two years of their married life were spent in Oklahoma,
the following five years in St. Joseph, then in 1908 they returned to
Bedford where Guy became associated with the Thompson Mercantile Co. Here she spent the rest of her life, creating
a real home for her family, often helping in the Thompson store, and
always giving the church a central place in her devotion and as a channel
of service. She is survived by her husband, Guy Thompson; a daughter, Helen, Mrs. Ben
Jostes
of Chicago; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren. [Anna
Iowa Kemery] Anna [Iowa] Kemery, daughter of John and Mary Jane
[Hoover] Kemery,
was born in Iowa, April 7, 1862, and died at the age of 93 years, one
month, 26 days. She was preceded in death by her father and mother,
five sisters and six brothers, being the last member of a large family.
She leaves several nieces and nephews. Except for a few years spent in Nebraska and Oregon,
she lived her entire life in Iowa. [Gladys
Levi Keith] Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church
in Gravity, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Howard DeVore. Burial [was] in Gravity cemetery. Gladys, daughter of David and Margaret Levi, was born Nov. 15, 1899, in Carroll
County, Iowa, and died at the age of 56 years, three months, two days. At the age of seven years she moved with her parents
to Taylor County. In the year 1917, she was united in marriage to Theron
Keith
and to this union one son was born. She cared for her invalid father for many years until
his passing in 1951. Her
parents and one sister preceded her in death. Those who survive are the son Drexel and his wife, Vivian, and two children, Randall and Kay Lynne of Bedford; seven sisters, Mrs.
Mary Hughes
and Mrs. Mina Korup
of Bayard, Mrs. Martha Lloyd of Milford, Mrs. Eva Woodyard of Red Oak, Mrs. Mae Stevens
of Shambaugh, Mrs. Esther Pullen
of Clarinda, Mrs. Rachael Churchill of Gravity; two brothers, Albert Levi of Cedar Rapids, Lester Levi of Clearfield. At the age of 17 years she confessed faith in God
and remained faithful to the last. |

[Permillia
"Millie" Reynolds Kirby] Permillia
Kirby, affectionately
called Millie, was born October 18, 1890, at New Market, Iowa,
to John [Samuel] and
Mary [Katherine Krout] Reynolds. On
June 9, 1912, she was united in marriage to Earl [Edward] Kirby at New Market and to this union six children were
born. She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Earl, in 1944; two daughters, Thelma Boltinghouse in 1940 and Alta Moser in 1965; two brothers and three sisters. She
is survived by three sons, Ivan and
Dale Kirby, Johnstown,
Colorado and Warren Kirby,
Tarkio, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Erma Leighton, Council Bluffs, Iowa; one brother, Arthur Reynolds,
Ottumwa, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sever nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. She
was a member of the First Baptist church, Bedford, and had spent her
entire life in Taylor County except for the past 12 years, which were
spent in Johnstown, Colo. She
was a wonderful and loving mother, a devoted wife, a kind neighbor and
a friend of many. She will
be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. [Rachael
Carmichael Parks] Funeral arrangements are not completed as we go to
press. The body is at the
Shum Funeral Home. [Rachael Carmichael Parks] She grew to young womanhood in the community where
she was born. When just
a young woman she united with the Baptist church. On Sept. 9, 1884, she was married to John Parks at Braddyville, Iowa, and they
enjoyed 58 years of wedded life.
Mr. Parks died April 16, 1943. They were the parents of five children: Earl R. [ay] Parks of Mesa, Arizona, and Cora E.
[llen] Thompson
of Bedford; Joseph, Hugh and Charles, who preceded their parents in death. Besides the two children, she is survived by one
brother, Joseph Carmichael, of Houston, Texas, four granddaughters, Mrs. W. N.
Etherton,
Grapeview, Wash., Mrs. Carl Marley [Hazel Thompson], Mrs. Glenn Van Camp [Gladys
Thompson]
and Mrs. James Keith [Dorothy Thompson], of Bedford; six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Shum Funeral Home,
Friday afternoon, November 25, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles. Burial [was] in Lexington Cemetery. [Sharon Kay Newkirk] [Norman Lowell Newkirk] [Otho Don Wood] He was graduated from the Bedford High School with
the class of 1895, received his B. A. degree from Cornell college and
his Bachelor of Divinity degree following that, serving as a missionary
in India for a time. Returning
to the United States later, he served for a number of years as head
of the social science department in the Alhambra High School. Mr. Wood visited in Bedford in May of this year. He is survived by his wife, Florence, his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Froland
of Los Angeles, and his sisters, Mrs. W. [illiam] A. Jenkins [Nettie] of Rock Port, Mrs. N. [icholas]
G. Van Sant [Daisy] and Mrs. E. [mmett] Reid Sanford [Ella] of Pacific Palisades. [Ralph Wilson Smalley] Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral
Home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles. The Gravity Masonic Lodge was in charge
of the services at the grave in Fairview cemetery. Ralph Wilson Smalley, son of Noah and Susan Ann [Stewart]
Smalley,
was born in Jackson Township, April 20, 1891, and died at the age of
62 years, nine months, three days. He has one brother, Dee G. Smalley of Long Beach, Calif., and one
sister, Mrs. Bethel Nash of Bedford. His parents
preceded him in death. He was married to Leona Weir of Bedford on Dec. 17, 1913. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; four sons:

of Gravity, Ralph, Jr., of Clarinda, Laurel of Stuttgart, Ark., Jean of Inglewood, Calif.; four daughters:
Mrs. Ruth Whitney of Shenandoah, Mrs. Bethel Jackson of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Mary
Lou Tjossem
of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Patricia Ann Adams of Inglewood, Calif.; ten grandchildren. Early in life he united with the Forest Grove Baptist
church and later moved his membership to the Bedford Baptist Church.
He has been affiliated with the Masonic lodge at Gravity since
1944 and has served as Worshipful Master and district lecturer. [Helen Evida Lawrence Thompson] Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Smallwood
[Robert Adam]
and Mrs. Jane O'Flority [sic] [Barry O'Flaherty]]. Mrs. Thompson will be remembered here as Miss
Helen Lawrence,
music instructor in the Bedford schools about 40 years ago. [Lawrence Hedrick Thompson] He is survived by his wife and two married daughters;
by a son of a former marriage, Jack Thompson of Moline, Illinois; and five grandchildren. Also by his sister and brothers in Bedford: Mrs.
Mary Richardson, S. [eth] E. [dward] Thompson, Guy Thompson, Ralph W.
Thompson; and by a sister and brother, Mrs.
Harry Guthrie
and John [Morrow] Thompson of California. Richard Thompson of Bedford, a nephew, left Saturday
night for Indiana. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in Wabash
with cremation in Fort Wayne.
His son, Jack Thompson of Moline, attended the services. |
