Creston News Advertiser September 2, 1976 A. P. Speelman Dies At 76 Adley P. [rescott] Speelman, 76, of Creston, died at the Greater Community Hospital at 7:35 a.m. today. He had entered the hospital about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He lived at 506 New York Avenue. Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. His body is at the Keating-Lindsay funeral home. He is survived by his widow, Ruby, and by a brother, C. K. Speelman of Creston. [rescott] Speelman, 76, of Creston, was held at the Keating-Lindsay funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Lyle S. Dunham officiated. Music was by Mrs. Richard Engelson, organist, and Russell Henry who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." Casket bearers were Earl Bramow, Herbert Justice, Bob Hardman, Lyle Whited, Evan Smith and Everett Rundlett. Honorary pallbearers were Wallace Wells, Elmer Herland, Burt Davis, Donald Sevier, Floyd Blair, and LaVern Bush. Burial in Graceland cemetery, where graveside Masonic services were conducted by Crest City Lodge No. 522, A. F. & A. M., of which he was a member. Mr. Speelman, a lifetime resident of Union County and an electrician for the Burlington railroad here for 37 years before retiring in 1960, died at the Greater Community hospital at 7:35 a.m. Thursday. Speelman The funeral for Adley P. [rescott] Speelman, 76, of Creston, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Keating - Lindsay funeral home here. Rev. Lyle S. Dunham will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Masonic Services will be held at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight. A memorial fund has been established for all respiratory diseases. Contributions may be left at the funeral home. He died at Greater Community hospital at 7:35 a.m. Thursday. He had entered the hospital at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Adley Prescott Speelman was born at Shannon City, [Union County, Iowa] April 19, 1900. He was the son of George and Nettie R. Cameron Speelman. He had lived in Union County most of his life. He was married at Creston, Jan. 8, 1955, to Ruby Mae Taylor. Mr. Speelman was an electrician for the Burlington railroad here for 37 years until his retirement in 1960. His home was at 506 New York Avenue. He is survived by his widow; a brother, Kearney Speelman of Creston; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Rundlett [Margaret] of Creston and Mrs. Clyde Johnston of Ellston. His parents, a brother and two sisters preceded him in death. He was a member of Crest City Masonic lodge, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Speelman Of Shannon Dies Shannon City---Weldon Speelman, 83, of rural Shannon City, did at the Ringgold County hospital at Mount Ayr at 3 p.m. Sunday after he had suffered a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Presbyterian church at Tingley. Rev. Merlin J. Wilkins of the Christian church will officiate. Burial will be in the Tingley cemetery. His body is at the Varner funeral home at Tingley. Mr. Speelman is survived by his widow, Pearl; two brothers, Adley Speelman and Kearney Speelman, both of Creston; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Rundlett of Creston and Mrs. Clyde Johnston of rural Ellston. Mr. Speelman was a veteran of military service in World War I and was a member of the Tingley American Legion post. [rescott] Speelman, 55, of 506 New York Avenue, Creston, died at a hospital in Clarinda at 9:23 a.m. Saturday after a five-year illness. She had lived in Creston since 1918 and formerly had lived in Platte Township. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church here at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Dr. A. P. Keast will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery [Creston, Iowa]. Casket bearers will be Floyd Evans, Kent Waller, Fred Konecne, Blye Blair, Ray Werner and John Nyberg. Her body will remain at the Dietrich and Keating funeral home until Tuesday morning when it will be taken to the home. It will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m., and the casket will not be opened after the service. Born in Union County, Iowa, Oct. 16, 1898, she was the daughter of C. H. and Mary Gessford Lininger. She was married in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 6, 1933, to Adley P. [rescott] Speelman, who survives her. She was a member of the Methodist church and of Vesta chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving her are her husband and three brothers, Clarence Lininger of Tampa, Fla., Harry Lininger of Kent, and Fred Lininger of Shannon City [Union County, Iowa]. Wessels Dies At Age of 76 Mrs. Herman A. Wessels, 76, of Creston, died at the home of her daughter, Dr. Savera Jaquith, at Maryville, Mo., at 2 p.m. Friday. Her body has been brought to McGregor Brothers and Coens funeral home here and will be taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Huntington [Pauline], Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church here at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dr. A. P. Keast, assisted by Rev. G. G. Bratzel, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery [Creston, Iowa]. Rose May Henry was born at Memphis, Tenn., December 27, 1875. She was the daughter of John Jacob and Virginia Garnet Henry. She was married at Greenview, [Menard County] Ill., September 14, 1899, to Herman A. Wessels. They moved to Cromwell from Greenview in 1903 and came to Creston in 1918. She had lived in this vicinity since that year. She had suffered a long illness and was being cared for at the home of her daughter in Maryville at the time of her death. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Dr. Savera Jaquith of Maryville, Mo., and Mrs. James Huntington [Pauline] of Creston; a son, Everett Wessels of Creston; a brother, Robert [Letcher] Henry of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Smith [Nellie Garnet Turner], of Monmouth, Ore. One daughter [Anna Louise] preceded her in death in infancy. She had been ill for a year. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church, of which she was a member, at 2 p.m., Friday. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery [Creston, Iowa]. She was born in Creston, June 11, 1926. Surviving are Dr. and Mrs. Wessels and a brother, Kenneth Wessels, all of Creston. Wessels, 90, a retired farmer who lived at 500 West Mills Street, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Huntington [Pauline], at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. His death followed a lengthy illness. Mr. Wessels had lived in the Creston vicinity since 1918 and had lived near Cromwell before that since moving from Greenview [Menard County], Ill., in 1903. He was well known for many years as a breeder of purebred Belgian horses. He had retired from farming in 1938. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical and Reformed St. John's church. Rev. G. G. Bratzel, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery [Creston, Iowa]. His body will lie in state at Coens Home for Funerals and will be taken to the church to lie in state before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services. Herman A. Wessels was born at Oldenburg, Germany, Aug. 26, 1871. He was the son of Gerhardt and Anna Maria Johnston Wessels. He was married at Petersburg, Ill., Sept. 14, 1899, to Rose M. [ay] Henry, who preceded him in death April 11, 1952. Mr. Wessels is survived by a son, Everett Wessels, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Dr. Savera Howard of Maryville, Mo., and Mrs. James Huntington [Pauline] of Creston; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, George Wessels of Anamosa and Henry Wessels of Nebraska City, Nebr.; and a nephew, Dr. George Wessels of Creston. Mr. Wessels was a prominent farmer and breeder of purebred Belgian horses for many years and retired from farming in 1938.
