[Sarah Wolf Whitecotton]

Times-Republican

May 1, 1923    [p. 4]

Obituary

Sarah Whitecotton, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Wolf, was born June 29, 1838, at Pittsburg, Penna., and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sim Beemer of Sumner, Mo., April 23, 1923, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 25 days, her death being caused from flu and old age.

She left Pennsylvania at the age of 3 years, coming to Ohio with her parents, who lived there 12 years and from there moved to Indiana where they lived two years.  They then moved to Iowa where she lived until her marriage to Frank Whitecotton, April 25, 1858, in Crawfordville, Iowa.

Thirteen children were born to this union, Deba Prow, William and John, who have gone before, Adaline Clement of Red William, Canada; Jane Stephens of Wakapolo, S. D.; Alice Beemer of Sumner, Mo.; Mary Wright of Grand Junction, Colo.; Frankie Ulm of Seattle, Wash.; Myrtle Brazier of Red Deer, Canada; Roy, of Myers Falls, Oregon; Robert, of Ponoka, Canada; James, of Kinso, Canada, and Richard of Hood River, Oregon.  She also leaves 54 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.  None of her children could be with her in her last hours except her daughter, Mrs. Alice Beemer, as sickness and other circumstances prevented.  But though they were not with her, their thoughts were of her and their regrets were deep because of not being with their dear mother in her sickness and death.

Her husband preceded her in death July 8, 1894, and after his death she moved to Canada where she lived for 18 years, then came back to Conway, Iowa, in 1920, where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sim Beemer, and a year ago with the family moved to Sumner, Mo., where she passed the last days of her life.  She united with the Methodist church at the age of 58 years and was a great worker for all good and she led a long and useful life.

Our Mother

Smooth the locks of silver hair,

On Our MotherŐs brow with tenderest care;

Gather the robe in final folds,

                                                 Around the form so still and cold.

                                                Lay on her bosom, pure as snow,

                                                   The fairest, sweetest flowers that grow.

                                                Kiss her and leave her our hearts delight,

                                                   Her pain is over, she sleeps tonight.

                                                Asleep in Jesus, Blessed sleep,

                                                   From which none ever wake to weep!

                                                A calm and undisturbed repose,

                                                   Unbroken by the last of foes.

                                                Asleep in Jesus; far from thee

                                                    Thy kindred and their graves may be;

                                                But thine is still a blessed sleep,

                                                    From which none ever wake to weep.
