Bedford Times-Press Thursday July 8, 1943 [p. 1] R. A. Mason, 87, Dies In Florida R.
[ufus] A. Mason, 87, pioneer
merchant of New Market, died at his home in Miami, Florida, on Friday,
June 25, following declining health for several years. The last rites and burial were in Miami. He
is survived by his wife, the former Miss Emma [Emily] Aiton of this community; and by three children, Edna, who is now Mrs. N. W. Thomas, Don Mason and Glen Mason, all of Florida. Bedford Times-Press Thursday July

1] Orlie S. Huss, 57, Dies At Oakdale Orlie
S. Huss, 57, a resident
of Taylor County for many years, died Thursday, June 24, at the Oakdale
Sanitarium at Oakdale, Iowa, where he had been a patient for several
years. The body was taken to Cedar Rapids for
the last rites and for burial. He
is survived by a daughter, his aged mother, who resides in Kansas; by
four brothers and five sisters.
One of the remaining brothers, John Huss,
is a resident of Bedford. His

Butts Dies Sunday, Dec. 13 Mrs.
Sarah Butts, a resident
of Bedford and community for many years, died at the home of her daughter
and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thummel [Alice], Sunday morning, December 13, 1942. The
funeral services were held at the Walker & Shum Funeral Home, Tuesday
afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Sarah
Isabel Payton, daughter
of Jacob Harvey and Mary Jane Payton,
was born in Henry County, Illinois, November 5, 1854, being aged 88
years, 1 month and 8 days, at the time of her death.
She was one of a family of six brothers and four sisters. At the age of twenty years she moved with
the family to Taylor County, Iowa, locating near Bedford. On
January 2, 1879 she was married to James Walker Butts. They
started housekeeping on a farm six and one half miles southeast of Bedford
and lived there continuously for thirty-eight years. In April 1917 they moved to Bedford, where
she had since resided. To
them were born six children. Mr.
Butts died October 13, 1918. Two
children, Pearl and
Ray, preceded their parents in death. Mrs.
Butts united with the Methodist church when a girl and lived a faithful
Christian life to the end. She
loved her home, church and loved ones and so enjoyed and welcomed all
who visited in her home. Even
in her declining years she was still eager for the best of life. She
is survived by four children: Mrs. Alice Thummel of Bedford, Miss Linnie Butts of Oelwein, Mrs. Ora Hughes of Omaha, and Glenn Butts of Bedford; four grandsons and three great grandchildren.
Also, by two sisters, Mrs. Celinda Moore
of Des Moines and Mrs. Elma Overstreet

Keith Dies At Home Here Mrs.
Etta Keith, who had been
ill and confined to her bed for the past sixteen months, died at her
home in south Bedford late Thursday afternoon, November 19. The
funeral services were held at the Walker & Shum Funeral Home Sunday
afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader of the Bedford Methodist
church. Burial was in the
Fairview cemetery. Mary
Etta George, daughter
of Isaac and Angeline [Null] George,
was born at Brownsville, Ohio, Aug. 11, 1860, being aged 82 years, 3
months and 8 days at the time of her death. When
a small child she moved to McClain County, Illinois, later to Missouri
and came to Iowa about sixty years ago, where she spent the remainder
of her life. While
residing in Illinois, she was married on January 18, 1877 to George
W. Keith. To
them were born ten children, nine sons and one daughter. Mr. Keith died April 4, 1908. Four sons, three grandsons and one granddaughter
have also preceded her in death. She
is survived by five sons: Clarence L. [ester] Keith of New Market, Howard W. Keith of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Ollie Keith and John Keith of Bedford, and Ralph Keith of Des Moines; one daughter, Mrs. Angie Valentine
of Gravity; 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs.
Sadie Reynolds of Council Bluffs; two half-brothers, Charlie
Keith of Portland, Oregon,
and Bert Keith of Phoenix,
Arizona. Mrs.
Keith was a member of the Methodist church and was a faithful member
