Aron and Mrs. Sarah [Halsey] Howe,
was born in Knox County, Illinois, on the 9th day of April
1849, and departed this life from her home in Bedford, Iowa, on the
12th day of March 1929, at the age of 79 years, 11 months,
3 days. Mrs. Salen resided in the state of Illinois
until she was 15 years of age, when in the year 1864 she moved with
her parents to Bedford, Iowa, where she has been a resident for 65 years,
and was living in Bedford at the time of her death. On the 4th day of February 1866, she was united
in marriage to Robert J. [ohnson] Salen, who preceded her in death on the 13th day of September
1908. Following this happy
marriage four children were born, two boys and two girls, as follows: Alice May Simpson of Bedford, Mary Etta Gant of New Market, Robert Arthur Salen and Albert Marion Salen, both of Bedford, Iowa, all of whom survive. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren

We all appreciate these elderly folks who came to our state in
early days, and helped make our state one of the most wonderful states
in the Union. No one could
live 80 years without experiencing many hardships and passing through
many very severe tests. So
in the main we are to keep ever mindful of their sacrifices, and to
drop a word of recognition in their behalf. Funeral
services were held at the Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 2:00
o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. M. Crowell.
The body was placed in the Mausoleum and later will be interred
in Graceland cemetery. |
