At the age of five years he moved with his mother, grandfather and grandmother to Gravity, Iowa, where he grew to maturity.  He attended the Gravity Public School and was graduated with the class of 1936.

His whole life was devoted to his family who survive him; his wife, Vivian of the home; his son, Randy and his wife Linda of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; his daughter, Kay Lynn and her husband Greg Sheffield of Bedford, Iowa, and five grandchildren, Brian, Kimberly and Casey Sheffield, Erin and Alexandra Keith; other relatives and friends.
