William P. Dresher Dies of Influenza

William P. Dresher, a former Bedford boy, died at his home at Lincoln, Nebr., Friday of pneumonia following an attack of influenza.  He was the son of Mrs. Jennie [Aiton] Dresher of this city and the news of his death was received with much surprise, he having visited in Bedford but a short while ago and in the best of health and spirits.  The body was brought to Bedford Wednesday morning.  Short funeral services were held at the grave Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Currie.  Interment was made in Fairview cemetery.

William Paul Dresher was born September 5, 1890, on a farm in Polk township in Taylor County Iowa.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. [harles] O. [scar] Dresher.  When ten years of age he came with his parents to Bedford where he attended school and graduated from the high school with the class of 1910.  His father passed away September 23rd of the same year and he remained at home for a year to assist the family in various ways.

In the fall of 1911 he went to Lincoln, Nebr., to enter the State University.  After spending three years in this institution he went to Grand Island, Nebr., to accept a position in a shoe store and later he engaged in the automobile business at York, Nebr.

He was united in marriage with Miss Ethel Peard of Phillips, Nebr., September 1, 1915.  To this union one child was born, Eleanor, whom is now two years of age.

At the age of twelve he united with the Presbyterian church of Bedford.  He was an active worker in the different departments.  For a time he was president of the Christian Endeavor Society and a leader in the Sunday school.

Recently he moved to Lincoln, Neb. with his family.  There he was in the employ of an oil company and had an office in the city.  Enjoying his work and ambitious to build up his business, everything seemed to be going nicely when he was stricken with a malignant attack of influenza and passed away Nov. 18, 1918, at 2:30 p.m.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and child, his mother and brother, Aiton, as well as a large number of relatives and friends.

Mrs. D. H. Campbell Dies.

Mrs. D. [arwin] H. Campbell [Bessie Lane] died at Rocky Ford, Colo., Sunday morning, May 1, from tuberculosis, it is thought.  Deceased was a sister-in-law of Sen [Marsenna Benton] and Miss Margaret Campbell of this place and at one time lived here.  She moved to Miami, Okla., some few years ago and had only recently gone to Colorado for her health.  The seriousness of her condition was not generally known and the news of her death comes as a great shock to her relatives and friends.

Obituary----W. D. Griffith.

W. [illiam] D. Griffith, son of Daniel and Roxanna [Dilley] Griffith, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, December 16, 1865, and passed away at his home six miles northeast of Bedford, at eight o'clock Saturday morning, September 15, 1923, aged fifty-seven years and nine months.  He was born and lived his entire life on the farm where he passed to the great beyond.

February 25, 1891, he was united in marriage to Lulu M. Widner.  To this union were born two sons, Elvin H. [arold], and Fern B., who with their mother, survive.  He also leaves one brother, R. [obert] C. [halmers] Griffith, who lives on an adjoining farm, and one sister, Mrs. James Haller, of Bedford, Iowa, and an aged step-father, D. [avid] C. Hemenover, of Des Moines, besides a host of friends and other relatives.  Mr. Griffith was a kind husband and father and was loved by all who knew him.  He united with the Methodist church in Conway in 1915 and lived a true Christian life.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon from the residence by the Rev. Carl Brown, pastor of the family, and interment was made at Lexington.

Gayol C. Eighmy Last Rites Held February 16

Funeral services for Gayol Clayton Eighmy, 75, of Gravity, were held February 16 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Carl Cummings and Rev. Robert Truitt.  Mr. Eighmy died February 13, 1973, at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda.  Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity. 

Gayol C. Eighmy, son of John and Martha Price Eighmy, was born June 15, 1897, near Gravity, in Taylor County, Iowa.  He grew to adulthood in Taylor County, Iowa, where he attended the public schools and was active in the various community activities.

On February 25, 1917, he was united in marriage to Letha Perkins at the Christian parsonage in Bedford.  Three daughters and two sons were born to bless their home.

He had lived in Taylor County all of his life with the exception of a few years in Lawrence, Kansas.

He operated farms in the area for a good number of years; following farming, he operated a portable feed mill and later was a mechanic for the Wilson John Deere Implement Co. in Bedford until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph Eighmy and Irwin Eighmy; four sisters, Minnie (Mrs. William) Parrish, Della (Mrs. Ralph) Thompson, Bessie (Mrs. Fred Lewis) and Carrie who died in infancy.

Left to cherish his memory are, his wife, Letha, of the home; his children: Mrs. Mildred Goslin and her husband, Chester, of Nampa, Idaho; Earl Eighmy and his wife, Mary, of Clarksville, Tenn., Mrs. Marie Babcock and her husband, Robert, of Gravity; Ivan Eighmy and his wife, Dorothy, of Fontanelle, Iowa, and Mrs. Lorraine DeBolt and her husband, Herby, of New Market; 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was a member of the Gravity United Methodist Church.

Gayol was a kind and considerate husband, father, neighbor and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
