Death Strikes Twice In Thompson Family

[Clark] Edwin Thompson [Jr.], 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Thompson [Florence Simpson] of Baxter Springs, Kans., and former residents of Bedford, died in a Joplin, Mo., hospital Sunday night as a result of an automobile accident Sunday afternoon.  Four others were hurt, one critically.

The body was brought to Bedford and funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home this morning, conducted by Rev. Stanley Schlick.  Burial was in the Graceland cemetery.

Edwin Thompson was born in Bedford Nov. 15, 1916, and moved to Baxter Springs with his parents in 1928.  He graduated from the high school there in 1933, salutatorian of his class, and then attended the State Teachers College at Pittsburgh.  At the time of his death he was employed as secretary to the postmaster.

Surviving with his parents are two sisters, Miss Ada May Thompson of Rosiclare, Ill., and Miss Pauline Thompson, a student at the State Teachers College at Pittsburgh; and a brother, Eugene Thompson, a senior in high school.

A Sudden Summons.

James S. Keith, formerly a resident of this county, died very suddenly of heart failure at his home in Creston on last Saturday morning, May 26.  After partaking of a hearty breakfast Mr. Keith arose from the table, and while standing by a window his son, who was present, noticed that something was wrong with his father, as a deathly pallor was rapidly spreading over his countenance.  He caught him in his arms, but after a few gasps for breath life became extinct.  Mr. Keith had been a sufferer from epilepsy for a long time and his death at almost any moment was not unexpected.  His age was 66 years, 4 months and 29 days.  He was a resident of this county for about 13 years, but moved to Creston about a year ago.  The remains were brought to this city Monday and were interred in the Bedford cemetery.
