Mann, Beulah Scott -

Beulah M. Mann was born Dec 9, 1887, at Independence, Iowa. Her early life was spent in Iowa
near Independence and Hazelton. At the age of 14 she united with the Presbyterian church. She moved with her parents from Hazelton to Rochester Minn., and from there to Coleridge, Nebr.
While there she was married to Ed A. Scott on Oct. 10, 1905. After spending a few years in Coleridge
they moved to Bedford, la., where they have since resided. To this union one daughter was born,
Mrs. Erma Longfellow, now living a short distance east of Bedford.
The close of Mrs. Scott's life came Monday morning, April 11, at 8:00 o'clock, having reached
the age of 39 years, 4 months and 2 days. She is survived by her husband and daughter, both of
Bedford, and her mother, Mrs. Jennie Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif. These were all at her
bedside when the end came. Thus we turn another page in life's great book and look to the great beyond.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, April 13, with Rev. C. W. Fletcher officiating. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery. Bedford Times Republican, Bedford, Iowa, Apr 14, 1927

 

Bowers, Nettie E. Saxton - Nettie E. Saxton was born in DeWitt, Clinton county, Iowa, on June 5, 1861, and died at her home in Bedford, la., on April 10, 1927, aged 64 years, 10 months and 5 days.

She was married to Lewis I. Bowers on April 4, 1883, and to this union were born seven children, 3 daughters and 4 sons. Mrs. Roy Helm, Claud L., Mrs. Cyrus Horning, Guy I., Roy J., Mrs. Elvan Johnson of Gravity, and Harold of Bedford. All the children were present during her illness but Mrs. Cyrus Horning
who preceded her mother to the great eternity last December 18, 1926.

Mrs. Bowers confessed her faith in Christ on December 4, 1876, at the Christian church in Bedford where she has always been a member. She came to Bedford when 17 years of age and she lived, here all her life. Besides the immediate family there is Mrs. Frank Welch, of Creston, Iowa, her sister, and two brothers,
Sherman Saxton of Bedford, and Frank Saxton of Sunny Brook, Mo, and a host of nieces, nephews and ten grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral services were held in the local Christian church Monday, April 11, with Rev. Fred Coley officiating, and the body was laid to rest in the local cemetery. Bedford Times-Republican, Bedford, Iowa, April 14, 1927

 

Frank Campbell, son of Enoch and Sally Campbell, was born in Mercer County, Illinois, Sept, 22, 1872, and departed this life at his home near Athlestan, Iowa, April 4, 1927, aged 54 years, 6 months
and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. Kauble on De,c- 24- 1893. To this union were born ten children: Warren and Mrs. Rolland Freemyer, of Athelstan, la.; Mrs. Glen Stroberg of Blockton, la.; Mrs. G. I. Streebin of Ottawa, Kas.; Elvin, Noble, Ward, Nina, Paul and Ola D., at home. He was converted and joined the Baptist church at Mt. Zion in the fall of 1903, and later at Athelstan. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for about 14 years, and as deacon for 22 years. He was ever devoted to the church and Sunday School work. He was one of the very best men of the community, a good father and husband, and a neighbor who always tried to help any and all who needed it. The esteem in which
he was held was evidenced by the fact that it was one of the most largely attended funerals ever held in Athelstan. Besides his immediate family, he leaves to mourn his departure, 13 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. A. H. Ford of Blockton, la., Mrs. Frank Adams of Ellston, la., and Mrs. R. E. Graham and Mrs. F. B. Maxfield of Boise, Idaho. Also a host of other relatives and friends. He was rational to the last, and made all arrangements for the funeral, telling those at his bedside that he was prepared and ready to go.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist church in Athelstan, April 6, conducted by Challie E. Graham, assisted by W. M. Hunt, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at the same place. Bedford Times Republican, Bedford, Iowa, Apr 14, 1927

 

Wm. W. Miller, son of Andrew and Elizabeth Miller was born on Dec. 4, 1866 in Viola, Lee county,
I l l i n o i s , and came to the end of this life at the Clarinda hospital April 5, 1927. When but a child
of four his parents brought him to Holt township, Taylor county, Iowa, where his boyhood days
were spent.

In young manhood, he, with A. C. Kinnison engaged in the livery business in Bedford
and on the 8th day of July he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie O. Norris and thereafter
moved to a farm east of Bedford, where he prospered at his occupation. After six years he again
moved to Bedford and for several years was associated with H. M. Long in the buss business. Later
he accepted employment with the Standard Oil Co., remaining with that company for several years and retiring on account of poor health, being disabled the remainder of his life.

There remains to mourn his demise his wife, Minnie Miller, two brother, Abraham Miller of Bedford and Douglas Miller of Omaha. Also two sisters, Mrs. Ella Bream of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Lottie Jamison of Bedford. There are also two nieces. Interment was given in the Fairview cemetery, with Rev. Paul G. Luce officiating.
