Clyde Lee Stephenson, 70, Dies
      Clyde Lee Stephenson, 70, was born on May 24, 1932 at King City, Missouri to Clyde E. and Fern Meyers Stephenson.  He entered into rest Tuesday evening, August 20, 2002, at Heartland REginal Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri, following a brief illness.
      Clyde was a graduate of Grant City High School in Grant City, Missouri.  While harvesting in Pierre, South Dakota he married Leona Byrns on August 1, 1951.  After they married, Clyde worked for a short time for the Federal Government surveying land in South Dakota. Clyde and Leona then moved to St. Joseph Missouri, where Clyde worked for MFA Elevator until he was drafted into the Korean War in October 1952. For his service he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and R.O.K. Presidential Unit Citation.  Following his discharge they moved to Bedford where he for nine years worked on the Taylor county Bridge Crew.  Clyde then joined the Iowa Department of Transportation and retired from the sate in January 1993.  Since then he has enjoyed going fishing with his buddies and installing carpet with an old friend, the late Leonard Bartles, and his son, Jeff Bartles.
      Clyde was an active member of the Bedford John F. Hardin American Legion Post 164 where he was instrumental in organizing the Sons of American Legion unit in 2000.  He was a current member of the V.F.W. and the Bedford City Council where he has served over twenty years.  He was also a former member of the Bedford Lions Club, Jaycees, and the Bedford Fire Department where he served for twenty-five years.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Cleta Stelphenson.
      He is survived by his wife, Leona of Bedford; children, Joy Stroburg and husband Carey, Blockton, Iowa; Terry Stephenson and wife Irma, Richardson, Texas; and Jonie Sheffield and husband, Tim, Bedford, Iowa; eleven grandchidlren; three great grandchildren; half brother Jerry Stepheson and wife Glenda,Grant City, Missouri and half-sister Karen Rief and husband Steve, Laurel, Iowa.
      Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, at the John F. Hardin American Legion Post 164 in Bedford with burial at Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.  A memorial fund is being established.  Eickemyer Funeral Home Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

Stamps, Ray - Mr Ray Stamps, 87, rural Gravity, died Monday afternoon, May 6, 1991, at Good Samaritan Nursing home at Villisca [Iowa] where he had been a resident since March 21.

He was born May 30, 1903, in Taylor County, Ia., the son of Jim and Viola Knopp Stamps.

On March 20, 1927, he was married to Reva McCoy who survives.

Mr Stamps was a farmer.

Besides his wife Reva at Good Samaritan Center, he is survived by seven children: Mrs Ivan (Helen) Eitzen, Coin, Ia, Dean Stamps, Corning, Ia, Curtis Stamps, Diagonal, Ia, Mrs Dean (Ruth) Thompson, Anchorage, Alaska, Larry Stamps, Gravity, Ia, Garry Stamps, New Market, Ia, Carroll Stamps, Gravity, Ia. There are 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Jack Stamps of Clarinda is a brother and Beverly Vawter of Irvin, Calif is a sister.

He was prceded in death by parents, one son in infancy, step-mother, Vera, and brothers Glen and Lowell.

Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Jon Palmquist officiating.

Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Guss.

Stamps, Reva McCoy - Mrs Reva Stamps, 84 of rural Gravity, died early Friday morning, September 20, 1991 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Villisca.

She was born October 10, 1906, in Taylor County, the daughter of Curt and Maude Negley McCoy. On March 20, 1927 she was married to Ray Stamps who preceded her in death May 6, 1991. Mrs Stamps was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Gravity area.

Survivors include seven children: Mrs Ivan (Helen) Eitzen, Coin; Dean Stamps, Corning; Curtis Stamps, Diagonal; Mrs Dean (Ruth) Thompson, Anchorage, Ak; Larry Stamps, Gravity; Garry Stamps, New Market; and Carroll Stamps, Gravity. There are 23 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. Alva McCoy of Spokane, Wa is a brother.

Mrs Stamps was preceded in death by parents, husband, son Robert, brothers Harley, Ted and Donald, and sisters Vivian, Mable, and Maravene.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Palmquist officiating.

Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Guss.

Memorials may be directed to the Guss church.

Shannon, Joshua Lucas - Joshua Lucas Shannon 29 of Spokane Washington passed away Sunday October 4th, 2009 in Eloika Lake, Washington. He is the son of Joy Morningmoon of Bothell, Washington.
He was born December 24th, 1979 in Omaha, Nebraska. He later lived in New Market, Iowa; Evanston, Wyoming; and finally in Spokane, Washington. He was home schooled for a few years, and then attended public school in Spokane. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1998.
While in High School he was involved in music and drama and took piano lessons. He did several musicals while in High School and loved the experience.
Shortly after High School, he joined the United States Army and did basic training at Fort Leonard, Missouri. After graduation he served the remaining time in North Carolina. He came home to Spokane in the fall of 2002. He stopped to visit his grandparents and great grandparents in Iowa on his way back to Spokane. He attended Eastern Washington University in Spokane until April of 2009. He was studying Psychology. He was nearing his Bachelors Degree. He also took a class in Russian and thought that to be a real challenge.
He loved music and was an accomplished guitar player. He had written several pieces of music and sang as well. His ambition was to become an artist in the music world.
Joshua was preceded in death by his great grandparents Ronald and Annabelle Lucas of Bedford, Iowa.
He is survived by his mother Joy Morningmoon of Bothell Washington; his sister Melissa and son Taegan, sister Zoey of Spokane, Washington; sister Caity and husband Patrick McNamee and daughter Gracie of Elk, Washington; Grandparents Judy and husband Bob Hilton of Shenandoah, Iowa.
Services were held October 9, 2009 at Rogers High School in Spokane. He left many friends who cared deeply for him and for whom he cared for as well. He will be sadly missed by his family and was dearly loved by all. Joshua was a very gifted and talented young man and had much to offer. His life was short but he touched the loves of many people. We love you Joshua. Memorials are to Rogers High School or family to Caity McNamee at PO Box 358 Elk Washington, 99009.

OBITUARY - Dr. ANNA L. SLOCUM, Clearfield
 
DES MOINES - Dr. Anna L. SLOCUM, 85, of Clearfield, formerly of Des Moines, died Friday,
Dec. 30, 1988, at the Clearfield Nursing Home in Clearfield.
 
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 E. Lyon, Des Moines.
Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines. There is open visitation until time of
service at the funeral home.
 
Dr. SLOCUM was born Aug. 5, 1903, Bement, Ill. to Lubbert E. and Wendelena (REIMER) LUBBERS.
She lived in Webster City from 1905 to 1933, and in Des Moines from 1933 to 1974 when she moved
to Clearfield. She was a retired osteopathic physician and cranial specialist, and had been on the staff of Des Moines General Hospital.
 
She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, American Academy
of Osteopathic Physicians, Cranial Academy and Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association. She was also a life member of the American Osteopathic Medical Association and an honorary member of the Polk
County Osteopathic Medical Association. She was honored recently for 50 years of osteopathic service.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Frances ALLEN of Prescott and Shirley Ann WICK of Port Orchard,  Wash.; a son, Dr. Robert E. SLOCUM of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Verne and Elston 'LUBBERS of Webster City.
