[103] Poznoff, Kevin M. - Kevin M. Poznoff, 44, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Leavenworth, KS, passed away in Topeka, Monday, October 30, 2006. He was born on January 30, 1962 in San Jose, California. In 1971 the family moved to Bedford, Iowa where Kevin graduated from High School. He then attended the University of Iowa. Kevin later served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was audio technician for the U.S. Air Force Band in St. Louis. Kevin was a D.J. for KKLO Radio Station in Leavenworth, Kansas for several years. He was p receded in death by his step-father, Gary McNutt. He is survived by his mother, Norma McNutt, Gower, MO, his father, Glen Poznoff, West Palm Beach, Florida, sisters; Marnie Mitchell and Lori Heinrichs, Plattsburg, MO, and Cassie Spencer, Bedford, Iowa, many family members and friends. His gentle and loving ways will be missed by all. Memorial services were held Friday, November 3rd at the first Baptist Church, Plattsburg, MO. Arrangements were entrusted to Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford. Wilfried Otto Pittelkow was born March 27, 1937 in Germany, the son of Dora and the late Wilhelm Pittelkow. Wilfried lived his first 15 years in Germany, then in 1952 the Pittelkow family moved to Atlantic, Iowa. On December 13, 1963 Wilfried was united in marriage to Karen Sue Hunt of Maryville, Missouri. Wilfried and Sue adopted her niece Connie in 1981. Wilfried, Sue, and Connie resided most of their lives in the San Fernando Valley, California. Wilfried retired in 2005 from Reflector Light where he was employed for 27 years as a truck driver/machinist. Wilfried loved his job very much. Wilfried enjoyed listening to country music especially the Grand Ol Opry, playing cards, watching TV, and shopping. He was also a huge L.A. Dodgers fan! In early 2006 Wilfried and Sue moved to Laughlin, Nevada to be closer to daughter Connie and husband Mike. Left to cherish Wilfried's memory are his wife Sue of Laughlin, Nevada and daughter Connie Ward and son-in-law Mike of Laughlin, Nevada, Mother Dora Pittelkow of Bedford, Iowa, sister Hanna Davis of Sioux City, Iowa and daughter Annie O'Dell and husband John and children Ashley and Jeremy of Clarinda, Iowa and son Paul Pittelkow of Sioux City, Iowa and children LaToshia, Heather, and Derek Pittelkow of Oklahoma, sister Ingrid Pittelkow of Bedford, Iowa, brother Joe Pittelkow of Overland Park, Kansas and daughter Erica Lynch and husband Matt of Santa Monica, California, sister Heidi Meek of Bedford, Iowa, and daughter Lori Welch and husband Rande and children Eric, Cameron, and Kelle of Bedford, Iowa and son David Woods of Maryville, Missouri and sister Betty Pittelkow of Bedford, Iowa. [105] Pershin, Forest Mack Forest Mack Pershin, 86, of Creston died Mon. Aug. 28, 2006, at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. No public services will be held. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com. Forest Mack Pershin, son of Audrey Vernie (Raynor) Pershin and Forest Manford Pershin was born January 7, 1920 in Ringgold Co., Iowa. He graduated from Gravity High School in 1938. On June 8, 1939 he married Dorothy Annie (Dahlberg) in Mount Ayr, Iowa. They settled northwest of Lenox in Adams County. In 1953, they moved to Lenox where he owned and operated Mack's Billiards for two years. He moved to a farm south of Lenox until 1975, when they moved to Creston and have continued to reside. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Pershin of Creston; one son, Mike (wife Linda) Pershin of Creston and one daughter, Judy (husband Raymond) Rios of Clearfield; two grandchildren, Rhonda Rios of Riverside, Calif. and Pam (husband Brent) Strabala of West Branch; three great-grandchildren, one sister, Lela Dukes of Ellston; a brother-in-law, Lowell Bush of Longmont, Colo., and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dale (wife Pearl), Lee (wife Louise) and Elbert (wife Maxine); one brother in-law, Vince Dukes, and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Bush and Alice (husband Bob) Reynolds. |

| [111] Powell, Kyle Wesley Kyle W. Powell, age 21, was killed in action near Fallujah, Iraq, while on patrol with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, on November 4, 2006. Kyle, son of David and Nancy Powell, and brother to Megan, is also survived by his grandparents, Horace and Betty Pfander, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and caring friends. Kyle was born December 14, 1984, at Ft. Carson Army Hospital. He lived in Aurora, CO from Oct '86 to Aug '94, where he attended St. Therese Catholic School and began his scouting career in Cub Scouts. After returning to Colorado Springs, he attended Oak Creek Elementary, Broadmoor Elementary, Cheyenne Mountain Junior High, graduating in 2003 from Cheyenne Mountain High School. He had also attended the Pikes Peak Community College vocational Criminal Justice Program during his last two years of high school. Kyle was active in Boy Scout Troop 1, becoming an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. As the son of two career Army officers, it seemed he was destined to join the military. He joined the Marines after graduation and attended boot camp in San Diego in the fall of 2003. After attending the Combat Engineering School at Camp Lejeune, NC, he returned to Camp Pendleton. His first overseas assignment was to Kuwait, also spending time in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Baharain and Iraq, working in multiple capacities. On his second tour, he was stationed in Ramadi, Iraq, attached to the 3rd of the 7th Infantry where he went on 120 missions in 7 months. He received the Navy Achievement Medal for building a bunker he designed and constructed that withstood several rocket-propelled grenades, preventing the injury of the Marines inside. In Aug'06 he deployed for the third time, this time to Fallujah, Iraq, attached to the 2nd and 3rd Reconnaissance Units. He knew it was dangerous duty but felt he was well trained and prepared. Kyle showed great courage and love for his fellow man. Kyle's friends said he was a great inspiration, never backing away from a challenge and was always seeking that greater thrill. He was a hero to us all. Semper Fi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Boy Scout Troop 1 of Colorado Springs and the Injured Marines Semper Fi Fund. |

- Ruth Pauline Slagle Pratt was born in Hale County, Texas near Abernathy on March 3, 1916, the second child of Charles Wesley and Ella Cecile Firth Slagle. After the death of her mother in 1918, she and her brother Clyde were cared for by grandparents, Aunt Bertha Russell and Mrs. Cloud of Bedford until her father married Bessie Hart Petit in 1923. She started to school in Bedford, Iowa and went to various country schools in Kansas. She went to high school in Fort Scott, Kansas, in Iowa and Kansas. Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Bedford High school after graduation she taught country school for three years in Iowa and Kansas. She married Harold Hunter May 24, 1937 and they farmed in the New Market area. In 1952 she worked as an operator at Farmer Mutual Telephone Company in Clarinda. On October 28, 1956 she married Dwight Pratt and helped him with his children. She also worked at the New Market Cafe, and as a telephone operator at the local office until it become dial tone. She and Dwight farmed his mother's place on shares and then on their own farm until 1984 when they moved to New Market. She continued to help with Dwight's feed business. Due to failing health they moved into Regency Apartments in Clarinda in 1993. In 1996 they moved into a home they purchased on South 20th Street, From 1999 to 2006 she lived at Eiler House and goldenrod Manor, both in Clarinda. She was baptized into the Methodist Church as an infant and renewed her baptism in the New Market Methodist Church on April 6, 1958. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, step daughter Nancy Kirsch, grandparents, three brothers, a step-sister and a cousin. She is survived by half brothers, Earl and James; half sister Opal; and step children Delbert, Beverly, Sue, Ethel, an spouses, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Velma Pratt and brother- in-law Henry Karg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 2006 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Interment was at Memory Cemetery, New Market, IA. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements. |

Poore, Howard "Willy" Funeral services for Howard "Willy" Poore, age 93 of Bedford, who died Friday, June 25, 2005 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning were held Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie Mogler and Ted DeHass officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 were held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. "Willy" Poore was born April 8, 1912, on a farm three miles north of Blockton, Iowa to Charles E. Poore and Minnie Effie (Polley) Poore. He grew up attending school in Blockton, Redding and graduated from the Bedford High School with the Class of 1932. He was nicknamed "Willy" because of his good report on Will Rogers, whom he admired. After high school Willy served in the CCC camp for eighteen months along with Leonard Scroggie. In 1937, he was united in marriage to Mildred Cobb and to this loving union four sons were born, Larry, Gary, Don and Greg. Mildred passed away in 1964 and in 1965 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Lillie of Clearfield. In 1944, he entered the United States Navy faithfully serving his country until his discharge in 1945, where he had been stationed in San Diego, California. He did general trucking in the Bedford area and was later employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation where he worked for twenty-one years. After retiring in 1977, as a foreman for the Red Oak DOT office, he and Dorothy moved back to Bedford. Willy kept busy for a number of years with remodeling and building bird houses and framing pictures. Always an active man, Willy dismantled Oak Hill Church when we was seventy-five years old along with several old barns for various farmers in the area! He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church having served as a deacon, taught the Friendly Class in Sunday school and sang in the choir, having been blessed with a beautiful voice. He was also a member of the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and bowling. He was a charter member of the Senior Golf Group. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends for many years in his home and going for coffee with the men at the Junction Caf‚. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Dorothy of Bedford; three sons, Larry Poore and wife Judy of Lincoln, Nebraska; Gary Poore and wife Barbara of Chicago, Illinois; Don Poore and wife Jeanette of Orlando, Florida; a step-son, Al Lillie and wife Myra of Indianola; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; a sister-in-law Dorotha Poore of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a cousin Cecil Polley of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Minnie; his first wife Mildred in 1964; his son Greg in 1999; a brother Ward and an adopted brother Ted; and his in-laws, Joe and Ruth Trost of Lenox. |

Peterman, age 92, of Bedford, Iowa, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the
Bedford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bedford, Iowa. Graveside services
will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Memory Cemetery, New
Market, Iowa with Rev. John Clark officiating. American Legion John F. Hardin
Post 164 will provide military rites. Visitation with the family will be
held 1:00 p.m. until service time at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda,
Iowa. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery. A memorial will be established.
Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth C. Peterman was born June 13, 1912, in Taylor County, Iowa to Merrill Peterman and Edna (Thompson) Peterman. Kenneth served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Kane who preceded him in death. Following his time in the service Kenneth lived in Reno, Nevada where managed a service station for over thirty years. He returned to Bedford in 1984 to be near his brother and family. Kenneth enjoyed hunting when he was younger. Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents; wife; brothers, Dennis Peterman, Dale Peterman; sister, Pearl Pershin. Survivors include his brother, Floyd Peterman of Clarinda, Iowa; brother, Ray Peterman and wife Winona of Bedford, Iowa; sister, Verla Easter of Grant City, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. |
