Graham, Dorlene Mae Bashor - Dorlene Mae Graham, age 88, of New Market, Iowa entered into peace Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Westridge Care & Rehab Center in Clarinda, Iowa. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Ritchie Funeral Home, in Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Dan Wiebeseck officiating. Interment will be in the Memory Cemetery in New Market.
Dorlene Mae Graham was born on December 29, 1926 in New Market, Iowa to Arnold Bashor and Mae Combs Bashor and passed away on February 7, 2015 at Westridge Quality Care in Clarinda, Iowa. Dorlene spent her entire life, with the exception of 12 years, in New Market. She attended Lindsey School and graduated from New Market High School in 1944. She and many of her high school classmates have remained close and spent many wonderful reunions together as well as lunches, sometimes on a monthly basis.
During the summer of 1946, she met Richard (Dick) Graham while he was visiting relatives in the Clarinda area. They were married on March 11, 1948. They were blessed with 3 children, Sandra Jean, Rebecca Sue (Becky), and Richard Dean (Rick). Dorlene was a “stay-at-home” mom and was always there for her children and husband. She tended a large garden, canning many vegetables and fruits. She was a wonderful cook and the cookie jar was never empty. She also was a beautiful seamstress making most of the girl’s dresses, even for those special occasions such as “Sweetheart” dance and prom and even weddings. If needed, she would alter the same dress, changing sleeve length or adding a jacket to change the look for the next event.
It was not until the 1960’s that Dorlene worked outside the home. She worked at Coast-to-Coast store in Clarinda and then in 1971 began work for the Iowa State Liquor Stores. She managed the Iowa State Liquor Store in Nevada, Corning and Bedford, Iowa before the state stores were closed and her retirement.
After her retirement she began quilting, a hobby she truly enjoyed. She has made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren and always had a beautiful quilt displayed on her bed. Many of her quilts were hand pieced and hand quilted. In later years she found embroidery to be a wonderful pastime. She made countless sets of “tea towels”, which are now prized possessions of relatives and close friends.
Her clubs were a source of many special friendships and happy hours. In the late 50’s a group of women got together when their husbands would go bowling. Finally the gals decided to form a “Birthday” Club and the tradition has continued to this day. She also enjoyed “Pitch” Club, “Domino” Club and was an active member of “Women Who Care”. During the past year when Dorlene was unable to drive, the club members always made sure she had a ride. Dorlene still enjoyed being the hostess and often volunteered her home as the spot to meet.
Dorlene was a member of the New Market United Methodist Church and a Past President of UMW. She was a 60 year member of Eastern Star and a Past Matron.
Dorlene’s pride and joy was her family, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She loved having them stop by for Sunday supper, or hearing stories of how they were doing at school or in their jobs in distant cities.
Dorlene was proceeded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dick Graham, parents Arnold and Mae Bashor, brothers Dalphon and Donald Bashor, sisters-in-law Beverly Bashor and Rosevelyn Bashor, father and mother-in-law Harold and Ruth Graham.

She possessed a great sense of humor and was a fun-loving person who loved joking with students, and made learning fun.
Marjorie was a great cook and became known for her delicious homemade divinity she would give to friends and family during the holidays. Also a favorite were her orange slice cookies. She enjoyed playing the piano, was a great seamstress, loved to play 500, bridge, and black jack and always had beautiful handwriting (just like the Zaner Bloser handwriting manuals.)
On November 9, 1947, two months before the due date, Darrell and Marjorie had twin daughters, Connie and Kathie. She had no idea she was having twins, but found out on the delivery table when she heard the doctor say, “There’s another one!” Their home in Lenox was always welcome to friends and relatives to come and visit or stay with them. Darrell and Marjorie enjoyed dancing, square dancing, always took the timefor family reunions and vacations in Colorado, California, Nevada, Arizona, Missouri, and Minnesota. After retiring, Marjorie substituted for a while in Lenox grade school, junior high, and high school. For many years, Darrell and Marjorie enjoyed going to country music concerts and festivals, traveling throughout the states, and camping with friends and family in Arizona, Nevada, and California during the winters. Marjorie, being the great money-manager that she was, and a good card player, said they could live in Nevada cheaper than they could live at home. During the summers, they enjoyed camping in their trailer and motor home at the Iowa State Fair and in their backyard with their grandchildren.
She was a 66 year member of the Lenox United Methodist Church, UMW, Order of the Eastern Star for 50 + years where she was Worthy Matron and a grand officer, NEA, The UAC (Up and Coming) card club, two bridge clubs, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The last few years before Darrell’s death, she lovingly and capably cared for him in their home. Marjorie spent the last one and a half years of her life at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa where her daughter, Connie and her family live.
Left to cherish her memory are her twin daughters, Connie Comes and her husband Jim of Atlantic, and Kathie Kolosick and her husband Stu of Norfolk, Nebraska; seven grandchildren Chad Comes and his wife Tresa, Kelli Welvaert, Kara Baumert and her husband Corey, Kayleen Brewer and her husband Dr. Jeff Brewer, Daniel Comes and his wife Jenna, Drew Comes and his wife Kim, and Elizabeth Babcock and her husband Dr. Abram Babcock;

A brother Robert Morris and his wife Verna and sister-in-law Helen Jean Morris, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Claude (C.J.) and Helen Butler Morris, her husband for almost 67 years Darrell, her brothers Kenneth Morris, and Hal Dean Morris and wife Florabelle (Pat) Morris; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Perry James Reynolds and Nora Elizabeth (Mason) Reynolds, her sisters-in law Evah Kerr Hagie and husbands, Nina Agnew and husband Floyd, Ruby Agnew and husband Darley, Ruth Carter Adams and husbands, and Imogene Miller and husband Glen; and brothers-in-law Horatio Reynolds and wife Gladys, Everett Reynolds and wife Myrtle, Herbert Reynolds and wife Marybelle, Woodrow Reynolds and wife Florence, and Francis Reynolds and wife Ruth and nephews Jack Carter, Fred Reynolds, Jim Agnew and niece Phyllis Fischer.
