Thursday, January 2d, 1902, at the home of her son Homer, occurred the death of Mary Jane Pershin, aged 68 years, 3 months and 30 days.
Mary Jane Kearns was born in Tyler county, West Virginia, Sept 3, 1833, was united in marriage to Abraham Pershin April 3, 1851. To this union was born eleven children, eight of whom survive her, and with her companion of more than fifty years, mourn her death.
She was for years a consistent church member, belonging and worshiping with the Methodists. In Kansas she joined the Evangelical church, and leaving there took a letter that was not deposited with any other church, they making their home in Illinois and Iowa for the past four years.
They first came to Iowa in 1878, and a number of yers later moved to Kansas for a period of seven years. Mr and Mrs Pershin celebrated their golden wedding in Illinois last April.
The funeral was from the church at Guss Sunday by Rev T.K. Hunter of this place, and the body buried in Brown [Guss] Cemetery.
Mr Pershin wishes us to publicly thank the neighbors for their many acts of kindness during her short sickness. |
