1. James Livingston4 Hinton (JAMES3, JOHN2, JAMES1) was born 17 Apr 1862 in Detroit, Wayne, MI, and died 06 Aug 1949 in Clearfield, Taylor, IA. He was the son of James Hinton and Eliza Jane Ritenberg, both originally from Ontario. He married Sarah Blaine 17 Apr 1895 in Missouri, daughter of Philip Blaine and Sinthy. She was born 29 Mar 1878 in Bible Grove, Scotland, MO, and died 25 May 1954 in Clearfield, Taylor, IA.

 NOTE: In her 80s, Eliza Jane (Ritenberg) Hinton Brasher lived with James in Gravity, IA. She burned to death in a terrible accident on 15 Aug 1914 and is buried in the "Old Gravity Cemetery". OBITUARY: Bedford Free Press, "Obituary, Eliza Brazer," Bedford, Taylor Co., IA, 25 Aug 1914: A sad accident (paper torn, piece missing) Friday when Grandma Brazer[sic], James Hinton's mother, was burned to death. She had lighted her pipe and the burning match set fire to some paper on the floor near her. In trying to put out the blaze, her clothes were set on fire and before she could be rescued from the flames she was so badly burned that she lived only about 24 hours. Mr. Hinton had just left the day before for a visit at Downing, Missouri. A telegram was sent him but before he could reach home his mother had passed away. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Rhodes, were held at Oak Hill church Monday at 10:30 and the body was laid to rest in the Gravity cemetery. Grandma Brazer was in her 85th year. Her sons, Will Hinton of Des Moines, and Geo. Hinton of Bramer, MO were present at the funeral.
