GLADBROOK. Population, 869. An incorporated town located on the C. & N. W. and the C. G. W. Rys., (depots about 3/4 mile apart), in Spring Creek township, Tama county, 19 miles n. w. of Toledo, the judicial seat, 16 from Marshalltown and 75 from Des Moines. Was first settled in 1881. This town is situated in the midst of one of the best agricultural and stock-raising sections of the state and large quantities of grain, hogs and cattle are shipped. TAMA. Population, 2,290. An incorporated city on the Iowa river and on the C. & N. W. and C., M. & St. Paul Rys., and Tama & Toledo Electric Ry, in Tama county, 2 miles s. of Toledo, the county seat, 51 w. of Cedar Rapids, 93 n. e. of Des Moines, 132 west of Clinton and 149 northwest of Burlington. Water power supplied by Iowa river at this place is excellent, there being a fall of 25 feet and the entire force of water can be used, making this a very desirable site for manufacturers, The city is lighted by electricity, and has a complete system of water works and fire protection, a public library, an opera house and 2 banks. The principal Christian denominations are represented, and the educational facilities are unsurpassed. The press is represented by the Tama County News and the Tama Herald. The C., N. & W. Ry., has extensive switching yards here, also round house and coal shutes, and has made Tama one of their principal supply and repair stations.
