Mrs. Grace West Buried Saturday - 1968

Funeral services for Mrs. Jesse (Grace) West, 74, who died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1968 in Evangelical hospital, Marshalltown, were held Saturday afternoon at Harrison Funeral Home. Rev. Paul A. DeVos, pastor of the Tama Baptist church, was in charge of the 2 o'clock service.

Mrs. Wm. Smith, organist, accompanied James Black as he sang "How Great Thou Art" and ""The Old Rugged Cross". Floral tributes were cared for by Harrisons flower Shop.

Pallbearers were Tom Adams, Wayne Speas, William Smith, Carl Lester, Wayne Kelding and Clifford Mason. Burial was in Hayes cemetery, northeast of Tama.

As Grace Ellen Hutchison, daughter of James Gilmore and Lula Hutchison, she was born Sept. 18, 1893, in Independence, Kan. She received her schooling in the rural schools of Independence.

She was married to Jesse C. West on March 7, 1914. They came to Iowa in 1920 and made their home in Toledo, later moving to Tama. Seven children were born to this union.

Mrs. West joined the Baptist church in Tama on March 3, 1963.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James (Velma) Chamra, Decorah, Mrs. Violet Kubik, Arizona, Mrs. Rene (Mervin) VanTomme, Montezuma and a son Robert West of Chicago, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother, Louis Hutchison of Garwin and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, one son and a sister.
