Suffered from rheumatism at Morganize Bend, LA; eventually taken from his tent by stretcher & carried on board a boat and taken to Algiers, struck on right hip at Battle of Cedar Creek. A rail was struck by a cannonball fired from a rebel gun & flew around and hit him on his hip. Taken prisoner 9-19-1864 at Winchester. In spring of 1865 at Camp Russell & Camp Sheridan in the Shenandoah Valley, again suffered from rheumatism. Detached service guarding prisoners on Harts Island, NY in March and April 1865.
