Subject: Grover, Jennie, Mary L BROWN, Gilbert Fine Art Gallery/1860s?
Date: Sat, 13 Mar 1999 17:05:52 -0500 (EST)
From: Elaine Kahler
This is a real stretch in my search for this family.Grover L. Brown married Jennie Simmons. I'm guessing they were born 1820s or 1830s. Their daughter, Mary Lillian (Mollie) Brown was born 1856 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
I have a photo of Mary where she appears to be somewhere between 12 & 17? On the back of the photo it says "Gilbert's Fine Arts Gallery, Traer, Iowa".
1. Has anyone heard of this photography/fine arts studio?
2. Is anyone searching this Brown family?
I have been unable to locate the Browns in any Michigan or Illinois census records(where Mary married in 1877). I thought, perhaps, by the back of this photo, that they might have lived in Traer, Tama County for awhile.
Any ideas? Elaine Kahler ekahler@hopi.dtcc.edu

My Great Grandfather was Wallace Berkley Louthan...married to Lillie S. (maiden name Stivers) They had many children but I know three were born in Toledo, Tama County, IA. Birthdates and names are 1895, 1897, 1895 Clissolde Louthan, William Louthan, and my grandmother Cordelia Viola Louthan. There was also a Lillian, and Pauline. Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Karen FoggoI'm trying to locate any member of the Stivers family that lived in Toledo, Tama County, IA around 1890 to 1900. My Great Grandmother was Lillie S. Stivers,...married Wallace Berkely Louthan. I know very little. Any information would be great! Thanks, Karen Fogg
I'm getting very frustrated looking for my Grandmothers family information. I would gladly pay for help. Her name was Cordelia Viola Louthan and I have a birth record (pg 412) showing she was born in Toledo, Tama County, IA. Mar 15,1899. Her Father was Wallace Berkley (or Bingley) Louthan, her mother was Lillie (S. or Viola) maiden name Stivers. They also had sons Clissolde Lawernce Louthan born Dec 24, 1895....and William Wallace Louthan born Mar 20,1897....both in Toledo, IA. Then there were 2 girls, Pauline and Lillian...I don't know when or where they were born. There may be more children. At some point they moved to Seattle, WA because my grandmother married my grandfather there in 1919. All time inbetween is a void and the existing relatives are very old and can't help me. I would be very, very, very gratefull for any sort of trail on the Louthans or Stivers. Please let me know how I pay you and I'll get it done. I'm stuck and can't get further.... I find myself spending hours on end looking, looking and finding nothing. Help! Thank you, Karen Fogg

My grandparents were both from Tama/Benton counties, but so far I've not made any connections. It's hard to track down information from out here in Woodinville, WA.My maternal grandmother was EMMA NOVAK, apparently born 8 Feb 1885 in Belle Plaine or Chelsea to Joseph Novak and Margaret Ulch (written as Ulc) Novak, both immigrants from Mlecice, Bohemia, about 1860-65. The couple had six other children who were also born in that area between 1861 and 1883: George, Albert, Rose, Kate (Katherine) and twins James and Joseph.
When my grandmother was a toddler, her mother died, and her father remarried. She was put in a Catholic orphanage or convent somewhere nearby. She ran away to marry my maternal grandfather while she was still underage.
My maternal grandfather, CHARLES HANOUSEK, was born 5 March 1883 in Belle Plaine to Joseph and Anna Hanousek, who had immigrated about 1875-79 from Tabor, Bohemia. His other siblings were Emil, Frank, John and Anna.
Do either of these surnames mean anything to you? Thank you for any advice you can give me.
