This Ames city directory was published in August, 1919. It attempts to list all individuals in the city, including occupation and address. The listings do not show the relationship between individuals, as in a census, except to the extent they may be implied by name and address. One advantage over a census is readability as they are printed rather than hand-written. Other information is contained in the directory, such as advertising and information about the city. The scope of this transcription is restricted to the individual listings.
Thank you to the Ames History Museum which created the images of this 1919 Ames City directory and made them available here. on the Internet Archive. That is the source used to create the index here.
The published directory is 200 pages long, with listings of individuals found on 112 of those pages. You may search by surname above, or browse transcribed listing pages of the directory.
