Begin Reading the Ames History of 1871

A History of the Town of Ames by Cyrus E.Turner, published in 1871, can be found in the Iowa History Collection of the Iowa State University Library Digital Collections. It is available at this link.

The book is an interesting view of the early days of Story County, Ames, and Iowa State Agricultural College (now Iowa State University). Much of the future was being forged in what was considered western frontier at the time. Decisions were made that have impact into today and beyond.

The book has been transcribed from the PDF version available at the link above. Pagination has been changed from the original, placing more content on each page reducing the total number.

A name index has been created and added at the end of the book. Names without a title or given name were excluded from the index.

Following are links to some of the subjects in the book.
