Biever |
|
| The picture of my grandparent's wedding in 1886. John Biever and Helena Wolf, Alton, Iowa. John was born in Bellevue and came to Sioux county with his widower-father Michael when he was about nine years old. John died in 1905. John's grand-son still lives in Alton, on the very farm that Michael Biever, John's father, bought when he came to Sioux County from the Bellevue (IA) area with about seventeen other Luxemburger familys in 1870.

Friesen |
|
Wedding Photo of John & Lucille Friesen The only thing I know for sure is they were married in the year 1913. Grandma's Wedding dress cost $14 and Grandpa's suit cost $35.
John Friesen was a farmer in 1931; he was plowing his field with a team of horses; they spooked and dragged him to death. His wife Lucille never remarried. I always remember her praying.
They had two sons Andrew and Martin, both WW2 vets, both gone now.

Mieras [More Mieras photos] |
|
| This is a really old picture probably from around 1885. The
two men sitting on the porch are brothers Jacob and William Mieras. The
ladies, I think, are daughters of Adrianus Mieras who didn't come to the
US until a few years later. I don't know which one is which, but their
names would be Jannetje and Suzanna. Jannetje (Jennie) was my great
grandmother. [Submitted by Leanna Ihde] |

The left picture is of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Noordhoff of Hospers. She was Kate Top and this was probably a wedding picture taken about 1897 in Sheldon. He was a teacher according to the 1900 census and his brother lived with them and he also was a teacher.

Van Whye |

The picture of Vernon Van Whye was taken in Alton, Iowa, I think. Their farm was close to Alton. There are a great many Van Whyes in the area and I would think they would like the picture, if they don't already have it. Vernon would be my second cousin if he were still alive. He was a grandson of Aaltje Ruisch Van Whye. Photo submitted by: Barbara Ruisch Hessel |

Westra |

Hendrik Pieters Westra & Jantje Derks (Roffel) Westra, my great-great-grandparents. Hendrik was born to Pieter Minnes Westra & Ynske Hendriks van der Hoek on 25 December 1828 in Oenkerk, Friesland, NL and died 01 August 1916 in Orange City, Iowa. His occupations were sailor and farmer. They married on 07 February 1859 in Friesland, NL and had seven children
there: The family, all but the eldest child Peter (my great-grandfather), emigrated from the Netherlands in 1881, departing from Rotterdam on the ship the Schiedam arriving in New York on 23 June 1881. They found their way to Orange City sometime before 1885 as Ynskje/Ida was married there to Martin Van Groningen on 20 February 1885. My great-grandfather, Peter and his family, briefly joined his parents in Orange City in 1889 before moving to Chicago and eventually to Minnesota. The 1900 Iowa Census Index (on this site) places Hendrik & Jantje Westra in Orange City. Hendrik & Jantje Westra are buried (unmarked) at West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. The photograph was taken in Orange City, Iowa by Jelgerhuis & Co. Photographers on an unknown date and received by me from my cousin S. Westra. Any additional photographs or information on this family would be greatly appreciated! |
