Gerrit Boeyink was born September 22, 1873 in Alto WI. He lived on a farm with his parents, Henry Gerrit Boeyink and Johanna Kastein. (See separate story on Gerrit's parents and their family.) Gerrit's family lived near Alto WI until he was 12 years old, at which time the family moved to Sioux County. In 1885 they settled on a farm two miles northwest of Sioux Center. He lived there until he was 25 years old when he began to buy grain. When he was 26 years old he married Magdelena De Pree on December 27,1899. In 1904 they built a beautiful new home that still stands just to the south of the present community center.

For about four years after this he bought grain for the Farmers Cooperative Elevator. He then bought grain for himself for a few years. In 1914 he became janitor of the public school. Gerrit Boeyink had also served as the assessor for a period of 15 years and was city clerk for one year. He was active in civic and church life. He was in the consistory for six years and both he and his wife taught Sunday School for several years. Gerrit was an organist for years while a member of the First Reformed Church and later for Central Reformed Church. Magdelena assisted her father Rev. J. De Pree in his study while he served the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center for many years.

In the spring of 1941 Magdelena died and Gerrit died March 11, 1953. They were the parents of four children.
