Langstraat, Mrs. Peter

Mrs. Peter Langstraat of Boyden, mother of Henry P. Langstraat and aunt of Cornie Langstraat, both of Sheldon, passed away Friday morning at 6:20 o'clock after an illness with pneumonia. She was taken sick the Tuesday morning before.
Johanna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard VanderSluis, was born at Pella on October 8, 1862 and died at her home in Boyden on January 8, 1937 at the age of 74 years and 3 months.
She was married to Peter Langstraat at Pella on February 25, 1886. They then moved to their homestead near Newkirk, where they lived for 24 years. They moved to their home in Boyden in 1910.
Four children, twenty-one grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren are left to mourn her death. The children are, Henry P. Langstraat of Sheldon; (Nellie), Mrs. Gerrit Wegter of Hull; John Blum of Alton; and (Johanna), Mrs. Wm. VanderWilt of Archer. One sister preceded her in death, Mrs. Dick DeBruin of Pella. She also leaves to mourn her death, (Ella), Mrs. Gerrit VanderMaaten of Boyden; (Nellie) Mrs. Gradus DeJong of Volga, S. D. and Peter VanderSluis of Hamilton, Iowa.
Mrs. Langstraat had been ailing for some time, but became seriously ill with pneumonia on Tuesday morning, and died Friday morning at 6:20 o'clock.
Funeral services were held Monday at the home at one o'clock and at one-thirty o'clock at the First Reformed church, of which she was a member. Rev. J. W. Brink conducted the services in both the American and Holland language.
Her favorite hymns were sung at the services, Mrs. Leonard Rensink sang, "The Gate Ajar For Me", and Stella and Heman VandenBosch and Ruth VanHoute and Henry DeJong sang, "When We Get Home". She was buried in the Newkirk cemetery.
In making written comment on her death one of her children said, "She was a kind and loving mother, always ready to help with cheerful words and deeds wherever she could. Owing to her death, due to rheumatism, she was confined to her home, but Mother always retained a friendly helpful attitude."
She rests, our dear beloved one rests
Her pain and labors o'er
We could not see the boatman
Who bore her from the shore.
We could not see the sunset glow
Nor hear her welcome home
Our earth bound sense is not attuned
To heavenly music it is dumb.
She rests, our dear beloved one rests
With those who've gone before
We may not hear their shouts of joy
To Him who set them free,
But we can bless His Holy name
Now and eternally.
The family thanks neighbors and friends for all the kindness shown them and the beautiful flowers.

[NOTES: John Blum of Alton and (Johanna) Mrs. Wm. VanderWilt were raised by Peter and Johanna Langstraat after John and Johanna's father (Jan Blom, Jr.), then their mother (Aaltje Langstraat Blom VanderLinden) passed away. John and Johanna's last name should be Blom, NOT Blum. The name in the paper is typed as it is in the newspaper clipping. This obituary was found, clipped, in a scrapbook from Tracy Wilhelmina VanderWilt (Barnes after she married), the daughter of Johanna (Blom) and William VanderWilt. There was no publication date or what newspaper this came from.]
