Rev. JEFFERS Of
Sioux City Dies
Rev. William Walter JEFFERS,
89, one of the founders of the
Holiness Mission in Sioux City,
died Sunday afternoon at the
mission where he had been living
since retiring from active mission
work several years ago.
Rev. JEFFERS was well known by
many in Hawarden. He organized
the Holiness Mission here an number
of years ago. He also at various
times conducted evangelistic
services here.
Rev. JEFFERS was born October
28, 1864, at Baraboo, Wis. Early
years of his life were spent in
Plymnouth county where he taught
school.
Rev. JEFFERS was a member of the
Methodist church and in recent years
had been active in Wesleyan Methodist work.
Survivors are the widow, Alvena
of Seney, Iowa, and a son
William of Haxtum, Colo.
Funeral services will be held at
1 o'clock this afternoon (Thursday)
at the Anderson Funeral home in Sioux
City. Burial will be in Logan park
cemetery.

Jens Jensen of Hawarden Dies At Age of 82
Jens Peter Jensen, 82, died at the Hawarden
hospital Tuesday, November 20, 1956, culminating years of ill health.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the
Baptist church Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial was at Grace Hill
cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.
The soloist was James Squier who sang “Beyond
the Sunset” and “Lily of the Valley,” accompanied by Mrs. J.E.
Tilgner at the organ.
Mr. Jensen was born at Transum Klit, Denmark, on
September 19, 1874, a son of Thomas Peter and Elsie Marie Jensen. On
December 14, 1898 he married Anna Dorothy Marie Thomsen. To this union
were born eight children. They came to America in 1909 and settled at
Viborg, SD.
In the fall of 1915 the family moved to Hawarden
where Mr. Jensen was employed by the Northwestern Railroad until 1934,
when he retired because of ill health. Mrs. Jensen died in 1941.
He is survived by two sons, Walter of Alcester
and Sophus of Denver; Six daughter, Mrs. D. Marie Lewis of Denver, Colo.;
Mrs. Fred Knight of Akron, Mrs. Katherine Dowdey, Mrs. Emil Lindgren, Mrs.
Wilbert Cain and Miss Minnie Jensen, all of Hawarden, a sister, Mrs.
Catrine Nielsen of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Martinus, at Brovst,
Denmark; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Jensen, Delores, Donald and Duane and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Knight of Denver;
Derold Jensen of San Diego, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Evert Nelson of
Vermillion; Mr. and Mrs. Robert miner and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jensen, Hugh
and Bruce of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Knight and Barbara of Akron; and
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lind, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Anderson, Art Lind, Miss Ann Lind, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Goldy and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Ludwig, all of Alcester.

Mrs. J.P. Jensen Expires at 71
5-DAY ILLNESS PROVES FATAL TO 71-YEAR OLD WOMAN
Native of Denmark Had Lived Here
For Past 26 Years; Came to This Country in 1910
An illness of only five days proved fatal Tuesday
to Mrs. Jens Jensen. She died in the Hawarden community hospital at the
age of 71 years.
Mrs. Jensen suffered a gall bladder attack Friday
and was taken to the hospital that day. She suffered a stroke the
following day and the combined ailments resulted in her passing.
Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral Home at 1:30 and at
the Baptist church at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Ewing
Holland in charge.
Mrs. Jensen’s maiden name was Anna Dorothea
Marie Thomsen. She was born in Gjottrup Sogn, Thisted county, Denmark,
August 16, 1870, the daughter of Peter Christian and Madsene Thomsen.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith 10 days
after she passed her 15th birthday. She was married to Jens Peter Jensen
on Dec. 14, 1898. They continued to make their home in their native
country for 11 years after their marriage.
Mr. Jensen migrated to the United States in the
fall of 1909 and, with her seven children, Mrs. Jensen followed him the
following August. They settled in Turner county, SD, remaining there for
about five years before they moved to Hawarden in 1915. She lived the last
26 years of her life here.
After coming here, she united with the Baptist,
during the pastorate of the Rev. John Parker.
Mrs. Jensen enjoyed good health until the last
two years of her life. She never was seriously ill until the sickness,
which ended in her death.
Surviving her are her husband, eight children,
Walter Jensen of Akron, Mrs. Dagmar Marie Lewis of Chadwick, MO., Mrs.
Katherine Dowdey, Miss Minnie Jensen, Mrs. Johanna Lindgren, Sophus
Jensen, Mrs. Olga Knight and Mrs. Elizabeth Cain, all of Hawarden. She is
survived also by a sister, Mrs. Chris Nelsom of Corry, Penna., and by 25
grandchildren.
