Patrick George Kelley
PATRICK KELLEY Patrick George Kelley, 67, of Hawarden, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the church. Porter-Dow Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kelley was born March 16, 1931, at Hawarden, the son of William and Lucille (Schaefer) Kelley. He graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1949. He served with the United States Air Force from January 1951 to December of 1954, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant with service in Korea. Patrick married Bettye Turkett on June 14, 1953, at Clovis, N.M. The couple farmed until Patrick began as the manager of the Hawarden Reminder newspaper and then later began working for the Hawarden Independent newspaper. He managed the Hawarden Eagles Club and was employed by Lynott Implement before retiring. Bettye died February 11, 1966. Patrick was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Hawarden Eagle’s Club and Hawarden American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Patrick “Shane” Kelley and wife, Marge, of Madison Lake, MN; two daughters, Sherri Daale and husband, Jerry, of Hawarden, and Becky Kelley, of Sioux Falls; two brothers and their wives, Michael and Regina, of Grand Junction, CO, and William and Barb, of Hawarden; three sisters, Kathleen “Kitty” O’Connor and husband, Connie, of Sedona, AZ, Mary Falde and Patricia Blake, both of Hawarden; four granddaughters, Stacy, Stephanie, Shannon and Jenna Daale; 17 nieces and nephews.
