Country School Picnic, circa 1905-06 School group where Chester Van Peursem is just a small boy (he was born in 1899)
Taken in 1909. Teacher - Jennie Schaap; with pupils - Henrietta Van Peursem, Anna Jahn, Carl Jahn, Ches Van Peursem (boy with the white hat sitting next to the teacher), Peter De Groot, Alfred Van Peursem, John Van Peursem, Dick De Groot, Marie Visser, Henrietta Visser, Leonard De Groot. Sherman Twp #4 Students 1918 Taken in 1918 with 7 students. Lucile Van Peursem, daughter of William Van Peursem is the third student from the left, a boy named Ralph next to her and then a boy named Delbert at the far right end. These two boys are not Lucile's brothers, but are children of Henry Van Peursem and the boys lived right across the road from the school. Lucile's parents farm was named the River Bend Farm, and Lucile had to walk about 1/4th mile to school every day.
(The school closed the next year due to low enrollment.)
Good picture of the school house. Chester Van Peursem is the boy that is as tall as his teacher and is to the left of the open door.
